Karl Malone was mvp twice. I love Karl Malone, but no one has ever described him as an athletic freak. He was a big beefy bruiser who hit a lot of midrange shots and... had John Stockton on his team. Jokic is like taking Karl Malone and John Stockton and putting them into the same package. He certainly is better than Nash, he is better than Dirk when Dirk won MVP, his numbers are way better than 2015 Curry when Curry won. His numbers are similar to every version of LeBron that won the MVP. The difference is he looks so ordinary that he doesn't fit into the flashy style that people want from an MVP. He is more comparable to Tim Duncan than anyone else but a far better shooter and facilitator. Blocks are great, they make highlight reels, but that isn't the only thing that matters. Embiid is a more athletic and physically gifted player but, as far as understanding the game... Jokic. Also Jokic takes 6 less shots and 5 less free throws per game because he is getting his teammates involved. Also, comparing him to Jimmy Butler is hilarious. The gap in PER between Jokic at 1 and Butler at 9th is bigger than the gap between Butler at 9th and DeAndre Ayton... at 35th.

On the Russ winning MVP comment - I had a look at the MVP winners since the 09-10 season, and there were only two players who won while not having the highest WS/48 (win share over 48 minutes). Russ, and Derrick Rose. In the Rose season, LeBron was looking at his third straight MVP and was the highest WS/48 - so you'd argue that Rose won due to voter fatigue. In the Russ season, Durant was the clear standout in many categories, including WS/48. But that was the season he first joined the Warriors, so between a combination of people hating him for it (and appreciating what Russ was doing with the OKC as the last man standing there), and Steph sometimes distracting from how good KD's season was, Russ won that one. Basically, Russ winning an MVP but getting knocked out in 5 is not a good counter-argument for Jokic being amazing, because Jokic was the legitimate best player over the season in the 2 years that he won his, whereas Russ won his largely due to factors outside the raw game. And as a fun fact, Jokic has a huge lead in WS/48 this season. If he doesn't win, it'll likely be due to voter fatigue. Embiid is doing pretty well in WS and WS/48, so I imagine he'll win if Jokic doesn't get given it.

We should say it properly because it is a respectful thing to do to human beings. Even players like Sandro Mamukelashvili deserve to have their names pronounced correctly

Not sure if it's what he was trying to say, but it does make sense to say that if we agree that you can't take away a team's accomplishment because of injury on the opposing team (which I do agree,) you also can't use it as an excuse of why you lost. Either injuries are consider external factors or they are part of the game. You can't say they are part of the game when you win, and external factors when you lose.

I agree with most of this video except around 16:20. The difference between warriors-nuggets and bucks-celtics was that the bucks took the celtics to 7 and were up in the series multiple times. Yes, they had jrue Holiday, and jokic didn't have MPJ, but the warriors felt so comfortable with jokic that they brought back steph from the bench

even though Nicola jokic had an amazing all-time great kind of season last year everybody who had a vote was trying to give it to anyone else but him. There was a time where it was lebron, giannis, KD and anyone else who was playing well and had a pulse. As they all dropped off the list because of missed games there were writers who were almost forced to vote for the guy that should have won it no matter how much anybody else played .Please believe me that I'm not the kind of guy who normally says anything like this but I think the hatred towards Nicola Jokic has got a bit of reverse racism tied up in it. It's also got that old school, new school thing going on because the old school doesn't want to look at any of the advance numbers that show that Jokic is an all-time great when it comes to the impact he makes for his team when he's on the floor. Back in the day there were a lot of guys who couldn't believe that Larry Bird was really as good as people said he was and a lot of that had to do with him being a country white boy. This is the first time I've mentioned race in any way in a long time so I am not wanting to get into this stuff for no reason. The dude is just flat out amazing and has passing skills that we've only seen in big guys like Bill Walton. It's always amazing to be able to watch a player who's in his prime and getting better every season.
@Luka-st4uf2 жыл бұрын
I think it's much more of him being a foreigner, who doesn't play flashy and can't dunk which is all the NBA media cares about. Look at how long it took the media to stop discrediting Giannis as the best player in the world and he's black but he came from Europe with African parents. Even African players like Siakam often get overlooked and underrated. On the other hand media loves Luka who's basically like a shorter Jokić but is more flashy and more of a character so they love him.
@bookaufman96432 жыл бұрын
@@Luka-st4uf being a foreigner is just another part of the picture. I do think that white basketball reporters sometimes have a subconscious fear of voting for a White Guy. There's no bad intentions there just people can't get past their own dumb ideas. If I'm wrong about that then that's fantastic because I I'm not into talking about this kind of crap. I just thought it was partially true.

@@truthhurts837 I'm not saying anything like any of that. I'm saying that people have a natural inclination against the Euro players and sometimes believe that the white player gets more hype for doing the exact same thing that an African-American player would do. Sometimes that's actually true but it's not true in the case of Jokic. IQ has nothing to do with race and hustle has nothing to do with race. If you're saying any of that then please stop talking to me and go somewhere else and leave me alone if you're not trying to say that and you're trying to say that I'm saying some shit like that well then you're just flat out wrong. God I really hate when people just say oh he lost in the first round so he didn’t deserve it. He put up amazing stats in that series, he just went up against a far superior opponent. People just simply CANNOT wrap their heads around Jokic's greatness, because it simply doesn't LOOK like the greatness they've witnessed throughout history. He looks like he plays slow and lazily, it doesn't LOOK like dominant basketball even though it completely is in every way. He's not loud, he doesn't bring a lot of attention to himself. This causes them to look anywhere they can to twist different nothings into somethings to fit their preconceptions about him. He just goes out there and hoops, and he does it better than nearly anyone.
