What’s incredible about Jokic’s numbers is that he is doing this while having a very low time with the ball. Unlike Luka or Shai who achieve the their insane number because they are allowed to dribble the air out of the ball, Jokic serves as an offensive hub and a connector. Sure he is also part of an offense that is built around him, but he works as a part of the big part of the system instead of being the system.
@baseballpimp19106 ай бұрын
That’s a great point that many casual fans don’t fully grasp with Joker. For a guy who’s often criticized for his lack of stereotypical athleticism (verticality, explosiveness, etc), it’s incredible how mobile he is as an off ball cutter and screener, which allows him to flow into different roles in the offense. He especially embraces that role when Denver plays crappy lottery teams like the wizards. Not only does he score off cutting and repositioning but he often makes savvy tip passes and quick decisions off these cuts too. Even when he’s off the ball he’s still highly impactful. He’s the curry of centers basically (only in terms of offensive movement and not in terms of three point shooting of course)

You are wrong on some facts. 1) Duncan is great-but his twin tower was even greater-check advanced stats/sabermetrics, I mean the underrated David Robinson. And others were even better than The Admiral. 2) Duncan is not the most successful by any measure-although may be top 10, definitely close...And if defined (idiotically, since a team overall ability does not define individual prowess), others have more championships, Bill Russel more than TWICE as many. 3) No reason to inject politics, "woke" there, as if right-wing propaganda. And it is UNwoke to be racist. And The Buddha means "one who is awake". That the movement has some excesses does not mean it is not overwhelmingly good. That would be like cherry-picking white mass-0murderers & claiming Caucasians are "bad". 😏

When asked about who with would they like to play, every single one of them said "Joker" instantly, without hesitation. True basketball fan does appreciate Jokic. There's always been terrible narratives and agendas in the NBA media. As a Rocket's fan, James Harden got plenty of this same disrespect, but for different arbitrary reasons. Harden was flashy, marketable, and had plenty of talent, but he was a 'diva' who (seemingly) didn't have to work hard to be at the top of the league. He would rather be at the club than at practice, but he'd show up the next day and be the best player on the floor. Predictably, the media called him lazy and discredited his success because they wanted to prop up someone else instead. While I'm not saying Harden is directly comparable to Jokic (Jokic has actually won in the playoffs), the NBA media loves to find excuses to make someone the next big thing at the expense of someone who deserves praise for what they're doing now.

But its really tied to geopolitics where Serbia tries to stay independent and does not bend the knee to multinational corporations only interested in extracting natural resources. The best team wins the championship, not the team with the best player, and when the teams are closely matched, luck often becomes a bigger factor than anything else in deciding which of the two ends up winning a series. People have a strong bias toward thinking that the star players of teams who win more championships are better than the star players of teams who don't win as many championships. People often try to downplay how good Wilt Chamberlain was by arguing that he only won two championships, without considering how much better he made every single team he was on. Some people will argue that Russell was a better player because he won more championships, but I don't think any GM ever would have been willing to trade Chamberlain for Russell.
