Im in complete shock. I can't speak or think. Granted, nobody can coach forever. But I would think he would want to go out on top. Which is a ridiculous thing for me to say. He is on top. He has made expectations so high. Anything less than national championship is failing. That's insane. Alabama and Coach won the SEC CB championship. That's almost as good as the national championship. The SEC is that good. Thank you Coach Saban for the best years ever and the best football ever. It's going to take me some time to digest this. It's like I got hit by a tractor trailer. I wonder how long he knew this and if the athletic director knew ? I saw another report but I thought they were lying to get hits. I honestly didn't believe it.

I’m a So Cal who has a parent from Mobile. I had to pleasure of going to the Rose Bowl Game (Saban’s last game). Is not the Rose Bowl the most Distinguished and most storied college football bowl game in history? What a platform for any great college football head coach’s retirement precursor. Relax Tide fans, Saban still has an office in the building. Did Urban Meyer quit Florida and Ohio State and still hang around? Any other coach? He may not be on the sidelines anymore, but he will have an imprint on the game plan EVERY single week. And now he doesn't have to deal with any of the other BS. Your new coach is not the real coach. I-MAN, I usually enjoy for some reason his riffs, today tho his schadenfreude and shrillness were strong. As for the conjectures of most callers as to why.... ? ..... fortunately Nick answered today. It is his age but more so the worry about his age by OTHERS, that is fair. 201-27, 5-1 against Kirby whose teams are mighty fine and will continue to give us a view of what is lost to some degree. 9-1 in the SEC championship.... FL the first year only. Matter of fact the only one loss to Kirby was in the Natty, some kind of impressive. What were the loss game point differentials? How often were they barely at the end of the game like LSU and the Clemson rub. Or how about losing to Meyer in the semis because Lane called too many passing plays in the 3rd quarter. The camback at Auburn, helped by that football rolling down the sidelines and out the end zone at the "haunted house". With lots of preparation AL, managed to win very consistently since 2008... 2008. AL has appeared in the playoffs 11 times since 2009 and won 6. 11 times in 15 years. The other 4 years losing the one game they needed to make it back. In college football it is beyond excellence, the standard by which others may measure. Thanks Coach!

Yeah, tougher game when you’re playing on a more even playing field with the competition. Can’t pay players and be protected by the conference, tv networks treating you like a god, and the NCAA looking the other way. He is a great Gameday coach, and he was great at building a system and culture in his program, but he was playing by a different set of rules than the rest. Saban left because he could no longer hoard all the talent possible. NIL and transfer portal pushed him out. It does need rules to wrangle it back but it has made programs like Alabama now lose the stockpile of elite talent they have had over a decade+
