They typically come quicker. Bad feather is now gone after 7 years in the area. His two kids have taken over and took longer to trust me. After almost two years, I can get within 10 feet.

I find that it does take years to earn crows trust, at least a couple generations of a murder knowing you. Sadly tho, you can't really blame them...I feel it is our(humans) own fault for that. Some people still hunt them to this day and some even consider them a nuisance. All that being said, 10 feet is pretty darn close for wild crows, so you are doing well...stay at it. Some people have a way with birds, and others not so much. My theory on that... I find that birds can see straight in to your soul. No matter how nice and loving you are feeling at the moment when you are trying to befriend them, they can still look right in to you and know if you are truly that kind, loving, gentle, friendly person at heart that you are portraying to them at that moment...and if you aren't true to your heart, you will never befriend wild birds regardless of how much you try. I feed a family of crows myself for last few years, every day, in my backyard....and racoons....and hawks...and Ibises...squirrels. Check out some of my backyard adventures on my other channel called Don Brasz. Here's ya a link.... kzbin.info/door/CsIjb_wjiKoHe6pRQ-Tsagvideos

This sounds like my little band of crows, two adults, two kids, one adult is gone, probably dead, the other, I think the male, I call him Clip due to a wing injury, recently showed up with a foot injury. Im afraid he wont be around much longer. Within the year I've been able to get within 4 feet of him, and maybe 6 feet of his kids. It's been great befriending them. I look forward to our feeding sessions daily.

@@thelivingman2940 yeah, I don't think that's it. I think it's more of the crows around me, are surrounded by other people who aren't so friendly to them. Farmers and such. So these crows have learned to fear people. I think my levels are pretty okay since I do have an amazing relationship with lots of wild animals. I am able to handle and pet wild raccoons on my porch every night, I hand feed two totally wild red-shouldered hawks twice a day, all domesticated animals love me, and I am the guy all of the neighborhood calls on anytime there's a wild animal situation that needs to be addressed in some sort of way. I haven't filmed any animal interactions in a long time, but you can see those hawks, and more stuff, on my other channel, called Don Brasz if ur interested. Have a nice day.

We feed a female Crow and her daughter (from last year's brood of 3 chicks) with our food scraps every day. She loves cooked meat scraps and bones to pick clean. It's a better way of reducing food waste going into the rubbish bin. In return she keeps the gulls, foxes and cats out of the back garden by attacking them and chasing them away. She is becoming more tame as the weeks go by and even calls down "hello" in Crow talk when flying over. We started feeding her last year when we saw that she was struggling to find food for her 3 youngsters. WE adopted a visually impaired (detached retinas following an impact with a car) adult Crow in 2005 and had him as a family member for just over 10 years, so are quite in tune with Crows because of this.

My crow family started in my pine tree this spring. I heard the baby flapping his wings getting ready to fly which alerted me to their presence. I immediately started putting food out for them which they gladly accepted and since then the three of them come around twice daily or so to get their fill of peanuts, walnuts, chicken, turkey, cheese, scrambled eggs, hot dogs. I also keep a 2'x2'x6"tub of clean water for them to drink, bathe, and dunk their food in. They've got it made! I call them the Crowski family...Mr. and Mrs. Crowski and baby Mogli. And Grandpa Crowski comes around sometimes and shares with Mogli too. I love my Crowskis!

How long did it take for them to trust you? I've been feeding crows but I live in a rural area so they aren't used to humans. They come in everyday but when I go out to put more food they fly away and don't come back for an hour or so. They sometimes fly up in the trees and watch me which I guess is a good sign that they're trusting me more
@frankenfoamy6 жыл бұрын
Try using a whistle or some other association. They hear it and know there is food. It happened within one week for me.

frankenfoamy I usually whistle but it's not that loud, I might try getting a whistle. I also have a crow call that I could try. Hopefully since they sit in the trees and see me put the food out, they'll realize I'm not a threat and start coming in more. Thank you for the reply though! Crows and Ravens are amazing birds.

They are so smart, and to watch them get the family together when there is food, or watching daddy love on his wife. It's beautiful. And I get a sweet purr sort of call ... Asking to be fed or thanking me. I am not sure. We moved ten miles away resently, and I have a squeaky animal voice lol... They found me.... They love raw shelled nuts. And if you talk sweet and loving to them.... They will move as well or at least visit. Mom crow who lives on top of my house, followed me or spotted me while I went to the store. Calling to me ... I knew it was her. My girl has hardly no power in her call. Probably a disability of some sort. But to know I am loved so much by these amazing birds... I almost cry.

There was one hurt Crow. He was the patriarch of the group for 7 years. (bad feather) He showed up one day with one knee not holding his weight. I would feed as usual and he would stay in the shade with his kids bringing him food. He was still the boss though he was injured. He could perch but would often sit on the ground, One day I saw a lot of activity with a group of Crows and a Hawk across the street. I never saw him again.

I've been feeding my backyard crows popcorn. I wonder if I should switch to dog kibble. I've also heard that they like peanuts. Does anyone out there know what their favorite food is?
@ericwooden73045 жыл бұрын
My crows enjoy shell on peanuts the best. Even over shelled peanuts. They will also eat cat food, most leftovers, dog food, cereals, cheeses of all sorts are also a favorite. I also try to ensure plenty of fresh water. They like to drink a lot and some like dipping food in it as well.
@adrianamara60634 жыл бұрын
I'm just statting crow feeding and am gathering info. I read they love peanuts and also cheese and fresh fruit. And that they will really eat just about anything. Dog kibble is not particularly good for dogs, but may be better for crows since they seem to be true omnivores, whereas dogs still are more carnivorous ( but not totally). Just my 2cents lol. I'm still researching.
@tigerseye734 жыл бұрын
They love unsalted shelled peanuts. They eat all they can get before the bluejay's arrive and start stealing some. They will also eat road kill ( even when rotted ) small baby birds, egg's, mice, moles corn, and just about anything that doesn't eat them first.
@adrianamara60634 жыл бұрын
@@ericwooden7304 Oh thanks for the tip about leaving water! I'll start doing that. I stopped leaving fresh meat b/c it attracted cats who scared the crows away. (The cats are well fed by my neighbor btw). Now I just leave unsalted peanuts in the shells. They usually manage to pick up 2 of the shells full of peanuts at a time and fly away with them!

I give them saltines sometimes. Its interesting to see who gets there first, squirrel or crow. Crow can scoop up 6 saltines and fly away! One day it got seven but couldn’t get off the ground and dropped all and had to start over, taking off with just five.

I have anecdotal evidence of this. While I abhor this activity as I love crows, but, my uncle used to hunt crows in his orchards and would report to me that. "One crow would act as a sentry, if my uncle was able to sneak past and shoot one of the other crows without the sentry noticing, the sentry would be punished by the other crows, and pretty harshly punished at that". It may not be court system by our standards, but it was judgement and punishment, id say its close enough.

Must buy some to have on hand daily for my tribe. Their message to me has been, "the eggs are okay, but we'd prefer your leftovers, especially when it's chicken." After learning what you feed your gang, my message back to them will be, "It's kibble from here on out, boys. Treats just on occasion." Using your menu, my birds can now have breakfast every day. I don't have to call my crows they wait for me.

Interesting. Did you train them to approach specifically to that whistle, or is that something that crows will respond to universally?

I would whistle when I knew they could see me put food down....they did the rest

Bad feathers is molting. His flight feather will fall out after the new one fully grow in the tubes. Birds feathers are like the human hair. After, the feathers fall out new ones are replacing it

There's a group in my neighborhood... How do I get them to come to my yard for food? How do I let them know it's there? Do they like cat food as well? Hoping to have a little crow family come visit me too!
@frankenfoamy2 жыл бұрын
Start with a crow watching you. Make a noise .Put food in plane sight and leave. Repeat a few times. Then when you do not see them....make the noise and put food out. They are smart and train you.

We have an injured crow that we noticed 6 weeks ago & are trying to help by feeding (call it Sheryl whatever its sex!). Rescue shelter advised cat food, grapes, watermelon if it's hot (we're in England so not so usual) but kitchen scraps if you can e.g. chicken but most important is water. Seems crows like to splash & eat wet food so I throw a handful of kibble & mealworms into a bowl of water. Sheryl manages to get some despite the other corvids swooping in. We love watching her in our tiny suburban garden.

That’s adorable, but you must now have seagulls near where you live. I started feeding the crows in my neighborhood when C19 hit and I saw crows everywhere trying to get food. Mine only ‘yell’ when they go see if I have put food out for them and I haven’t shown yet. If I am there, they just murmur and chortle and realllly quietly caw so they don’t draw the gulls. I drive my daughter to work so sometimes I feed them when I return....they follow and then line the path returning and escort me back. They quietly wait until I feed them. We feed them dog kibble from Costco also as well as scraps, because they are scavengers and will eat dead birds or road kill...except crows.

I had a small group of about 20 or so crows that I got to trust me to come withing 20 feet when I would call them. I always fed them when I did tho and they would hangout for a while and watch me at work. I worked at a campground for 4 years and didn't like wasting food so I shared it with them. They liked banana nut muffins lol bread crust once in a while and I would toss them trail mix minus the chocolate. I miss my crows..

We have a whole murder of them (50 or so). A bunch of different families were orphaned by eagles in the area. They all drop by every morning for their cat food and sunflower seed

How neat! I wish I could whistle. I may play your video out the window or learn crow calls. I have a murder outside right now. I left a bowl of walnuts out. Feel so bad for them in the heavy snow. Glad to come across your video. The first I clicked on was of someone calling a crow just to shoot it. ☹️ Much love to Bad Feather and his family. 🖤🖤🖤
