Calls to sack SNP Housing Minister as Swinnney & Sarwar clash over homelessness

The Scottish Government has been accused of having its “head in the sand” over the country’s homelessness crisis, as the First Minister was urged to sack the housing minister.
This week, homelessness applications reached a record high in new figures, with more than 10,000 children forced to live in temporary accommodation.
John Swinney was challenged on the issue at First Minister’s Questions on Thursday by Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.
Mr Sarwar asked if he accepted there was a housing emergency in Scotland - which had been declared by Holyrood earlier this year, to which the First Minister said he did, adding that the Government was “taking action” to fix the issue.

SNP & Labour are both to blame for this situation. Both have bashed landlords and made it very unattractive to invest in Scottish property, highest stamp duty/ADS in the UK is in Sco6tland, highest income tax in the UK is in Scotland, rent controls only in Scotland etc etc. So many landlords have exited the market which means a lack of supply, meanwhile the population of Scotlands cities has increased, so we have INCREASED DEMAND AND REDUCED SUPPLY = PRICE RISES. So for the landlords who haven't sold up they get bombarded with rental enquiries so they can be picky and only choose the best applicants who pass credit checks etc. But many more landlords will still sell up to escape Labour and SNP tax raids.

Tenants deserve protection from rubbish landlords but by the same token good landlords need support too or they will continue to sell up and leave the market which will continue to push up rental prices.
