@ConstructBand6 жыл бұрын
@@kolbycheeze7607 Yes, of course! You can learn to do this at any age, just like singing. The pitches you're able to hit might change as your voice breaks more is all. I don't think not being able to project your voice well is anything to do with your voice developing though. Anyone at any age with any kind of voice can learn to project! You just need to practise and figure out the right technique. Power and projection all comes from your diaphragm, whether you're singing or screaming. You also need to figure out what your vocal range is and practise at pitches that are suited to you. You can figure out your range easily - just get a piano or keyboard, start somewhere comfortable and work your way up, singing along to each note. Then do the same but going down to the lower notes. The lowest note to the highest note you can hit in your chest registration (which is essentially your talking voice) is your range! Hope this helps.

Not gonna bullshit man this video ACTUALLY helped me! As a teen I messed up my vocal cords in bands and at shows, not properly doing it without pain. I went the Pantera route and screamed like Phil Anselmo. I took his advice for instance… drink a lot of alcohol, smoke cigarettes, and never warm up. So I turned to beatboxing because I have a deep raspy voice from all the abuse. But I decided to give metal vocals another shot watching vids of the younger guys like yourself. A++ on this tutorial. 🤘

I can do the voice but the volume is slightly higher than a whisper. How can I get it louder?
@BrainSkill77565 жыл бұрын
Volume is not a thing you should aim for. You should focus on making your scream sound good. You get your volume once you record your screams or use a mic on stage :D, other than that you can try to push your air out with more force ( dont overdo it ! ). What a lot of singers do is change the way they speak to get better at certain ranges, so mb if you try to speak louder in in general you could get louder screams ?! I dont know if it works, but could be worth a try ^^
@tigerstyle45055 жыл бұрын
That's the "projection" part, homie. You want to push from your diaphragm (NOT your chest) and gradually build up the volume/projection. I've known a lot of vocalists through the years and have been at it for a long ass time myself but on and off and not consistently for a while now. I've known cats that could blow your ear drums out with fry or false chord vocals, others that sounded dope but weren't very loud and everything in between. I was able to get very loud back in my teens when I first started, my highs were higher and my lows were lower and they were all loud. But as I've gotten older my range has actually narrowed despite my technique improving. Everyone is different and capable of different things but it largely comes down to practice and patience. It's not easy to pick up on the first place and doing it wrong will set ya back severely. Some people can get very loud while others don't get much volume at all but it's actually not a big deal. But like the other person said, volume isn't everything. You'd be shocked how much of the sound ya hear on records is post production and not at all what the person actually sounds like when they're doing it. I personally know of people who on their records sound like they're ripping their throats screaming but in person it's not even close lol And live you'll notice a lot of people cup the mic or hold it specifically so that it's very close to their mouth and often palmed in their hand in a way that is like a less intense cupping. Plus it's turned waaay up 😂 Very minimal example of post production clean up: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6a5ZqOqbLWLftk Examples of mic techniques: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/raXcimieqbefgbM Hope that helps some. Just practice and don't rush. Sometimes something just clicks and you're able to do more than ya were quickly but most of the time it's like working out, small, almost unnoticeable improvements that add up a lot over time. ✌

@ConstructBand7 жыл бұрын
TheMaximusprime09 You're probably going to think this is pretty useless but honestly, the only advice I can give for getting through that stage is keep trying. Perseverance is key. Keep listening to how it should sound and keep trying to replicate it by tightening up in different ways and shifting your larynx around. It's not easy to get the hang of it but you will eventually. You just have to keep playing around with it man. If you can false chord scream, you're already at an advantage to people who can't do any kind of screaming techniques.

@honeymarinade39356 жыл бұрын
I also can false chord, but this fry screaming is really making it hard for people to understand. So am I clenching my throat? There's two ways of making the grudge noise when the pitch is low. You can either let more air out or clench your throat. Once I try to bring the grudge noise higher and higher, the grudge noise starts to fade and my singing voice comes in. If I clench hard enough, the grudge noise will still be there. So the real question is... how hard are we to clench our throats?
@ConstructBand6 жыл бұрын
Jane Doe Hmmmm, it's not really clenching your throat as such. It's more tensing the muscles around your vocal folds. The aim is to create less room for your vocal folds to move so that they are vibrating very fast, thus creating a fry scream. This shouldn't feel overly tense. Try to relax. Then the projection comes from pushing with your diaphragm. As for pitching, try to change the airflow rather than lift the pitch up with your voice. To pitch higher, you want to aim the air towards the roof of your mouth and tighten the muscles around your vocal folds a little more. To go lower, aim the air towards your bottom teeth, open your throat a bit more and push your bottom jaw forward a little. Honestly though, I wouldn't even bother trying to pitch it until you can project it properly. Make sure you can get it nice and loud and you're comfortable at a moderate pitch first. Hope this helps!

Inhale screaming is a very bad technique for vocal health and longevity, simply because the vocal cords aren't designed to be pulled inwards. Over time, it will end up causing damage which may ultimately end up being irreversible. It's hard to give pointers based on the information you've provided. Being honest, I think you might need vocal coaching! I offer online one to one vocal tuition via Skype if this interests you. Drop me an email at callumhowlevox@gmail.com. ☺️

Yeah, what Zig The3rd says is right. You push with your diaphragm to increase the power. It feels like you're lifting something really heavy from the ground, pushing with your core. However, bear in mind that it's not something that will magically happen the second you start pushing with your diaphragm. It's a very gradual thing and can take a lot of practise. You should start to notice it getting slightly louder day by day.

It's gonna take some time to get there but keep practising the crackle on the daily. Hold it out and maintain popping candy sound and feeling for as long as possible. Practise different vowel sounds with it. While you're doing that, periodically try to project by breathing deep into your diaphragm and compressing the air before you start the crackle. Then lift your soft palate, push with your lower abdomen (i.e. your poop muscles!) and then push even more with your diaphragm. Make sure that all the pushing is coming from your gut and not your throat. Hope this helps!

Best video on the web for fry screaming. Do you open your throat while singing, like when you yawn, or not?
@ConstructBand5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! You don't open up your throat when you're fry screaming. You do the opposite if anything! You create a lot of compression around your vocal folds so that they only have a tiny amount of room to move and they have no choice but to move rapidly and sort of vibrate. For singing, I would say yes but I wouldn't advise emulating a yawn while you sing. It should feel as natural as talking, with added power from your diaphragm, then you need to focus on retaining the position of your throat and diaphragm to hold out the required note. This can differ with other techniques though, such as head voice and falsetto. There is no diaphragm power involved with those techniques. Hope this helps!

Yep, that'll happen. Keep trying dude! The projection comes from pushing with your lower abdomen, which feels similar to pushing out a big shit. Careful you don't do that though! 😂

When I do the starting noise, and progress is to the compressed noise right before the distortion hits my voice stops and I start coughing profusely. What am I doing wrong?
@ConstructBand4 жыл бұрын
This can happen for a number of reasons. The most likely is that you're trying to push using muscles in your larynx, rather than allowing the push to come from your abdominal region. Try to stay relaxed, find your vocal fry (or 'groak'), shorten your vocal folds then apply some lower abdominal push. Shortening your vocal folds makes you sound a bit like a game show buzzer when you apply it to your talking voice and it tends to force you into more nasally tone. Apply that same motion to the pure vocal fry/groak, then apply the lower ab pressure as if you're deadlifting something really heavy from the ground. Then you'll find the crackle. Hopefully this helps but if you feel like you'd benefit from some one on one coaching, drop me an email at callumhowlevox@gmail.com. I conduct lessons over Skype and my rates are affordable. I'm not out to rip anybody off. 😊

The transition from croak to crackle is what fucks me up and has done so for about 10 years now. If I try to do _anything_ to the croak, it just becomes this uncomfortable choking sound (similar to the noise made by the puppet doctors in Silent Hill 1). No crackle, just a ripping feeling that lands me in a coughing fit. How does one progress through this part? I've been stuck on it for so long it's taking up my sanity.
@ConstructBand5 жыл бұрын
Perseverance is the only advice I can give. It's bound to irritate you if you're not used to it. Try to push with your diaphragm as you're holding out the groak and only allow a tiny amount of air to escape as you're doing it. It feels as if you're bracing right before you're about to deadlift a load of weight. Hope this helps!

I'd love to help you out here on this comment but without hearing your technique for myself, that's not something I can do unfortunately. It sounds like you're more than likely adding a low note to your pure vocal fry but I can't say for certain. I offer vocal coaching via Skype at affordable rates if this is of interest to you. That way, we can get to the source of the issue and iron out any kinks in your technique. Drop me an email at callumhowlevox@gmail.com or a message on Instagram at @colourlesscal for more info!

Dont believe this guys bullshit. STAY AWAY FROM VOCAL FRY. fry screaming has NOTHING TO DO with vocal fry. Doing what hes doing will fuck up your voice. Dont believe Melissa cross, mary z, riffshop, Andy cizek, and all of those who perpetrate wrong myths about screaming. Kardavox is ok but he has his own terms for everything. point is, DONT BELIEVE THIS GUY, hes doing vocal fry not a fry scream.

With the groak sound it's difficult to keep it going consistently. I know how to do it, it's just hard to keep it going. Sometimes it won't even project right, it's weird.
@ConstructBand5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that sounds about right in the early learning process. You'll be able to get a good scream out now and then but it won't be consistent. As Patrick says, make sure you're warming up. If you're at the stage where you can get it going every now and then, I'd say it's safe to practise on the daily and just give yourself a day or two to rest if you feel like you need it. If you'd like some one to one tuition, I do vocal lessons over Skype. All you need is a webcam, a decent microphone and a willingness to learn. Don't worry, I don't charge much. I try to go to the crackle but my breath vanishes and I'm silent. Help?
@ConstructBand6 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say without seeing what you're doing in person but it sounds like you're tightening up too much to achieve the crackle. You don't want to seal up your airways completely, you still need to leave some room for the air to escape. You can do the groak, right? Start again from there and contract the muscles in your throat very slowly. Try moving your jaw up and outwards as you tighten to get a feel of where your larynx should be. Tighten your core and push with your diaphragm as you're doing it.

I finally got the scream, but I'm having trouble doing the E vowel sound. It just makes it very hard to hold the scream while saying E.
@ConstructBand6 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why practising your vowels is imperative! Keep at it and focus more on those E's when you practise. :)
@honeymarinade39356 жыл бұрын
@@ConstructBand but is it normal that E is harder than the rest of the vowels?
@ConstructBand6 жыл бұрын
@@honeymarinade3935 Yeah for sure. Think about the positioning of your throat that's required in order to produce that sound. Everything tightens up, leaving less room for your vocal folds to vibrate. It's the same idea with singing. An 'E' vowel sound is much harder to sing than something like an 'O' or 'A', especially as you get towards the top of your range.

If you can maintain the crackle, that's where your diaphragm comes in. Try to push more with your diaphragm but maintain vocal position. A good way to picture how to activate your diaphragm is to envision you are about to lift a tonne of weight from the ground. Like bracing before a deadlift! 😊

For now, you should get used to a pitch that feels comfortable once you're able to project. Pitching up and down should come after. Fry screaming is a very mid-range technique though. You can't go super low or super high with it but you can give it some variation for sure eventually.

I'm having real trouble going from the groak to the crackle - whenever I try and tighten my throat muscles it feels almost gurgly, and something tells me that it's the wrong feeling. If I just push the fry, I can get it louder and more from a head voice place though, I don't know if that's helpful?
