The new bolt-on nose for the SC-44s is a great move. Amtrak is learning from the Genesis. People are also saying that the SC-44s are getting internal work done as well along with the nose, something similar to the ALC-42s. Guess the only way to know is if they keep on breaking or not.

Many railroads and truckers utilized Roadrailers. UP, CN, and BNSF utilized Roadrailers, but for not very long. Conrail and NS utilized Triple Crown services. NS bought Conrail's share in Triple Crown in 1999 with the split-up of CR. Swift Transportation (now Swift-Knight) utilized Roadrailers in the West Coast on first UP, and then BNSF and Swift stopped Roadrailer services in 2004. Amtrak also used to haul Roadrailers back when they had express services. Amtrak stopped Roadrailers in 2004, following the discontinuance of Amtrak's postal train and express services.

Yeah.... I don't think the Intramotev design is gonna stick. While there have been many passenger multiple unit trains, none have stuck for freight. I highly doubt that driverless trucks are gonna be a thing soon, let alone driverless trains. Maybe Intramotev could have some niche applications for small shortlines that don't interchange with anyone, but even if it COULD work in rail yards, the automation system would just become extra weight once a locomotive hooks up to it, because I can't imagine these railcars can go very far, at least on their own.

Yes, this charger nose looks better. And while they're at it they could also fix the side design to match the level of the window band on the Venture cars. (Seems that it was originally designed for doubledeck cars that however never came ....)
@natesmainlinevids4 күн бұрын
From the updates you listed here Sam, here's what I will say about some of these: Caltrain Electric Train Soft Launch - While this important change for Caltrain will make service more frequent, faster and reliable, I looked at the new schedule and I feel like they could go with a few more limited trains and express services even on the weekends as part of the project. Something that would be VERY useful is if Caltrain happened to order some Alstom Coradia Multilevel coaches of the same type Metra and VRE plan to get as they are PERFECT for the platform height and the doors are wide enough. Maybe it would be useful that way to add a few more coaches to their services with trains having 8 to 10 coaches in length. On the diesel side however, I hope the MP36PH's can still be used in some other way when Caltrain is ready to replace them. Those engines should be converted to some sort of Tier 4 variant transferred to Amtrak's California sponsored services on the Capitol Corridor, San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner and perhaps MARC and Metrolink could join in on doing the same, which can help with more trains on those routes, especially the Capitol Corridor and Surfliner. It would have to lower than 5,400 horsepower though, but still run with AC traction. However, I still think there should be a way to use the Bombardier coaches more instead of just for Gilroy service even when the MPI built/rebuilt locos need to be replaced, such as converting those coaches into EMU's and others that can be transferred over from other agencies to help out, or they could just order some new CEM coaches as well. If they'd also want to keep running loco-hauled trains on the electric only side, then perhaps some form of new electric locomotive could be built, such as an electric only variant of a Siemens Charger, or have some ACS-64's transferred over from Amtrak when the new Airo sets and ALC-42E's come into service. Amtrak Siemens Charger 4626's nose redesign - Well, it certainly is an amazement to see this change to give an SC-44 a more... whatever way I should say it when talking about the ALC-42 style nose cone... appearance, but it would be something if other Chargers that already have the notched SC-44 nose got this change such as the California State owned engines, although we know that two more Chargers for the Cascades and the new Airo sets for that route will have that nose especially on their Cabcars.

2:39 From rumors that I have heard, allegedly, this goes beyond just replacing the SC-44 nose with the ALC-42 nose. Amtrak and Siemens agreed to a TSSSA to improve the internal components of the ALC-42, hence increase reliability (better performance in winter included), and the TSSSA has allowed the ALC-42 to become way more reliable than when it entered service, and sometimes, more reliable than the Genesis they'll replace when all the Chargers are in service. In some recent documents, there were indications that Amtrak and their state partners, IDOT, WSDOT, and possibly Caltrans too, were working to bring the original SC-44 chargers into the TSSSA agreement, so 4626 likely not only had it's nose replaced, but may have had internal workings, if not part replacement (keep in mind, Amtrak cheaped out on the parts in the original order) to improve reliability of the SC-44 Chargers on IDOT, if not also WSDOT and Caltrans.

I think the Intramotev will work best for industries who need their own switchers, so they don't have to buy a railmobile or something. Iirc, someone caught one of the last Triple Crown trains with the Erie Lackawanna unit leading.
