Very good sermon! I am surprised and disappointed that more churches do not give sermons on prophecy and Christian apologetics. No wonder that our teens, college students and families, in general, are drawn away from the church and are not prepared to give an answer for the faith that is within them.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Today is April 10. Today is Good Friday. This psalm is usually read or sung on this day. Preferably, it is read since singing is usually discouraged on Good Friday since it is the most somber day for believing Christians. Sadly, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, services have had to be canceled or held online, including my parish.

Actually, there is NOTHING heretical about the statement that Jesus became the Son of God. It takes nothing away from His deity. When speaking of Jesus before His incarnation John specifically refers to Him as "the Word" and declares Him to be God. "And the Word was God." (John 1:1)
@sprtnbball222 жыл бұрын
@@PastorPaulLeBoutillier “And the Word became flesh.” Christ became flesh but he was always the Son of God, always a member of the trinity. To me, it is dangerous to say he became the Son of God. He was and is and is to come. He is eternal. He is not becoming anything with regards to His deity.
@PastorPaulLeBoutillier2 жыл бұрын
@@sprtnbball22 And that's the point isn't it? I TOTALLY agree that Jesus did not become anything with regard to His deity. But He DID become something with regard to His humanity. He became God's Son. The idea that Jesus has forever been the "son of God" is not supported in Scripture, in fact quite the opposite. Psalm 2 clearly declares, "The Lord said to me, 'You are my Son; today I have begotten you.'" (Psalm 2:7) The word "today" marks a point in time/history when the eternal Word of God became a man and took on the role of "son."
@sprtnbball222 жыл бұрын
@@PastorPaulLeBoutillier I have to admit that you were saying something one way and I heard it a different way. I have a different understanding of Christ from scripture. Simply put from a logical standpoint, Christ as an eternal member of the trinity would also be eternally the son of God. He became human, became flesh, but his place in the trinity as I understand it always was as son. Being born didn't change anything about Him. But I see now that you aren't making any claim against his deity, it just took a little unpacking, and I don't think you're out of bounds at all with your reading of the scriptures, I just happen to disagree. Thanks for replying, be well.

This was mind blowing!!!! I love Psalms but question to you Pastor Paul, do you feel it was prophecy? All your references points it is prophecy. However, you make it a point to say others scholars are unsure it's prophecy. It entices me to explore more in-depth as to why one may feel it may not be prophecy. You did mentioned crucifixion was so bad it was illegal. In order to be illegal something must have happened in order for this law to be in place - no?. Was there a crucifixion before Jesus (not to imply anyone higher than Jesus or God) . Are there others findings not mentioned? It is unclear as to why David wrote this Psalm in the first place - right? I don't understand why some scholars feel unclear of the connection. It is very clear in your teachings. Just curious to know which way you feel - prophecy or no. I hope this question finds you in 2020. Blessings.

Dear brother, I've often been blessed by your pastoral/teaching ministry. However was just shocked to hear at around the 27th minute how you denied the eternal Sonship of our Lord Jesus. I would humbly and lovingly ask you to revisit this important doctrine in the Scriptures. ❤
@PastorPaulLeBoutillier8 күн бұрын
Hello Kelly. Thanks for your note. I truly respect your beliefs, but there is NOTHING about the eternal sonship of Jesus that changes ANYTHING that is critical or necessary doctrinally. Jesus is and always has been God and one with the Father regardless of whether you believe in eternal sonship or not. It doesn't change the doctrine of the Trinity, nor does it affect ANYTHING Jesus came to do for us in terms of our salvation. It literally changes nothing! I believe in the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ - that He is the Savior of the world and the ONLY way for us to be saved. How does believing in the eternal sonship of Jesus change ANY of that?

I like this but can someone please explain in a deeper way of how Jesus wasn't at one point the son of God that seems unholy to even say
