Calvins input is very good input. It may not be what they want to hear, but its very accurate. In order to standardize, you need to calibrate by having the exact same put at all targets and then calibrate from there. He's looking at it from an engineering mindset, not just a player, which is what's going to be the best for the sport. Good job, Vinny 👌
@nathanwilson7929Күн бұрын
Incorrect. You have 9 zones on a basket, and you can vary speed and angles. You have to find the ZONE that is the best putt that catches any speed. Everything at the bottom should catch, dead center should always catch slow or fast, hyper side middle should catch most putts, and anhyzer side middle should catch at a high percentage (chains should not push out the disc ). Anything high should catch steep angles, but flat isn't going to land. Essentially, you should be able to hit the middle 2/3 l/r and the bottom 2/3 with a majority of putts. A soft putt should never get pushed out low, and a hard putt should never spot out center.

Pdga should buy/make a disc throwing bot and use it to calibrate the game as a whole. Lease versions to disc manufactures to standardize flight numbers, etc. A few obvious applications that could go a LONG way to further develop the sport. It’ll never be perfect but it’s 2024 and best effort is expected and appreciated. Why not!? Who knows - maybe the weird putting experiment was somehow a step in that direction.

Now this temporary disc golf tee pad is supposed to be used at places the temporary tee pad on the Pro Tour is not up to safe standards. A simpler solution would be to use a rubber horse stall mat from a Fam & Fleet store with a piece of plywood below to keep even could solve the problems using stakes or similar attachment pins. What would also help is banning the cheap plastic Turf that is like a stiff plastic carpet and also ban specific rubber grass like turf meant more for sports like Baseball or USA/Canadian Football that are too tall for disc golf and in poorer designs hold water.

Calvin may be a chemical engineer (so people can debate how relatable), but has a much better sense of what it means to test baskets than what I saw on your last video. Just do the opposite of what Nikko suggests to do. His comment on control of variables is important - so maybe they big brained and opened it all up to see the craziness to find a way to actually structure testing, but I'm not optimistic.
@caseysmith54423 сағат бұрын
I feel like the Pro Tour is doing this just to say we could not find a solution to the problem people keep asking about because in every other ball or sport they use the same dimensions. Now the closest analogy would be in Baseball in the MLB and consolidated minor leagues how the distance of the field/park for a home run, changes at every place, no one field is the same.
@mattlaberge31305 күн бұрын
But adding something the pro tour needs to standardize tee pads. They’re just as important. Forgot which pro player said it but maybe they should have rules saying the run up needs to be regulated as well to help in making the tee pads more consistent. Just a thought.

What would help is playing Disc Golf on non temporary courses and standardizing a minimum and max tee pad size forcing for Pro Tour the use these be the same dimension being sunk in a hair or flush for longer drives. Now, how to have all courses be standardized Disc Golf Pro Tour needs to either remove the live coverage or get a remote Satellite Internet for the live coverage current manager/president of the Disc Golf Pro Tour needs to have in order to have courses go up in the number they can use so you are rarely using golf Courses for any course except maybe the one on the Portland area becuse they made it illegal for the Police to do anything in the city becuse of how poor the police are then declaring all drugs legal so.

If we are so close to golf comparatively then we need to adapt to each tournament's basket. In golf they adapt to each green on different courses. The practice rounds weed out the great from the player's that just show up every tournament. The big separator can be the ability to interpret and adapt your practice rounds. I like this concept personally.
@topropenoptop5 күн бұрын
Not a great analogy. A golf green is more like C1/C2, which does require similar adjusting. If we want to compare the two, asking players to adapt to different baskets is like asking golfers to adapt to different types of holes. If you came across a golf course that had holes that spit out any balls that rolled in from a certain angle that’s different from other courses, you would never tell those players to just adapt. They would fix the holes.

Ok Gannon...if it's so easy, why don't you design a basket that everyone is happy with. Complaining about a problem without having at least a suggestion...something more then 'heavier chains or something that stops the forward...blah blah blah'...for the fix is just sour grapes complaining. Bad knocks and shitty spit outs are part of the game, deal with it. Every player putts differently and until they all putt exactly the same, you will have "issues" with baskets.

This is the only sport I can think of that doesn’t have a consistent goal or target. I think just pick one and use it at every event for the year and players will just have to get used to it. I think they should have to putt in a way that produces consistent results but they shouldn’t have to change their putt or aiming point every week. Need a basket company that to sponsor the whole tour instead of disc manufacturers sponsoring events and using whatever basket they make
@SSquirrel19764 күн бұрын
Every other sport has standards in equipment that have to be met. Pitchers in baseball can have very unique stances and methods of throwing, but the baseballs are all the same. The Reds don't use a ball that weighs an extra 2 oz and the Dodgers don't have one that is half an inch wider in diameter. You standardize the equipment and then the players are the variable. Everyone claiming Calvin is talking a science base is ignoring that in science you remove as many variables as possible so you can test one condition rather than several at once. You can't say there is only one way to putt, there are too many situations and angles, so you standardize the basket and then the discussion is about the players and their abilities and not about whatever random basket of the week is dooming people's putts.

There is no "ideal putting style". It doesn't matter how the disc gets there, if it hits dead center pole the basket should be catching 100% of the time. I might be the controversial person here, but I partly disagree with Calvins train of thought. Disc robots? That's not realistic in terms of cost. Calvin may have an engineering background, but business and economics are another huge issue. The reality is having pros volunteer to do this is basically free testing. Is it limited in scope? Yes, but you can still gain data from this kind of experiment and a very low cost. Sure its not going to solve the issue right away, but it's a step towards the right direction. I think Calvin may have a great idea, but that's based on his limited information. Alot of comments here are soo black and white with "if it aint the the right way then no way. That's simply not true.

Sorry I am forgetting the one Disc Golf Pro Tour event Lone Star did before ban by PDGA as a sponsor for Texas States. Remember this year that Lone Star almost got into forcing a lawsuit PDGA for allowing a Transgender on the women's side because Lone Star was going to ban the person by fake dropping the ball on their registration a person who due to safety skipped the absurd amount of Disc Golf Pro Tour events in Texas due to the amount of MAGA crazy in the state and PDGA had to force a drop of the Lone Star brand from Texas States forcing a cease and desist letter from PDGA for keeping up the photo that Monday before Texas States after they were dopped having the smaller Disc Retailer carry the brunt of this tournament where the disc baskets somebody added an extra S hook to each chain set to the baskets Lone Star had provided that are now the only baskets at the course selling the old ones to help cover the cost of the tournament that Lone Star was not able to provide.

You don’t need a robot to know what the best basket is. The current disc catcher 28 is it. Too heavy chain and they bounce back, too light and they bounce off the pole. Horizontal chains should never be a thing. It will simply come down to money and who’s willing to pay the most for a sponsored basket. That said, baskets have to be smaller. It’s inevitable. Putting is way too easy and you see it every hole on the pro tour, inside 20ft and commentators call those gimme putts. Ruins potential stroke separation for spectators.
