Ricky's intensity (clapping and raptor legs) is why I love him so much. Yes, it comes with some time violations and being generally pissed when he loses, but I'll take the net positive. He is in total contrast to Chris Dickerson or Calvin Heimburg who look like they'd rather be somewhere else. So I loved it when Gannon got into it too. Competitive and jazzed athletes are more fun to watch. Period.

Yeah, that battle without the energy the athlete bring to the atmosphere would be boring. Was a great battle, you could tell how much both of them wanted it. You don't see that manifesting in the disc golfers on camera much, it is way more fun to watch.

Yes, competitive and fun is lacking on the Disc Golf Pro Tour events. About the only other one you see emotion from is Ezra Aderhold formerly a South Dakota player who looks like he is pissed at every shot he makes himself having seen him practice play in 2016 South Dakota State Disc Golf championships. Now he rents a lot for his big Buss like Touring in the winter at a specific trailer park in Arizona he rents year round a type that is for non-mobile homes but has residency in the state. If Jermey Kolling was still touring period, he would be making it fun in the commentary on non live stuff but since the PDGA tour decided to go live for the tour, in 2022 this has been a big mistake.

Ok, so Gannon Buhr came back from 6 shots back on the final day to win - tying the biggest single round comeback in the history of the pro tour? If you didn't find that exciting, you are a hater. Disc golf fans love to complain about anything and everything, but the fact is that the format produced an incredible round on the final day of the event, and the guy who should have won it, won it.

There's a certain level of disrespect with taking so fucking long every time it's your shot. It's sort of saying, "okay, now it's my turn, and my turn is more important than yours, so I'm going to to take more time." When it's happening over and over again... it pulls energy away from the card, not to mention they have to wait for your slow ass, which is distracting. If Gannon walks to his lie with 3 discs in his hand, tries 2 different stances, then steps off his lie and walks a little ways up the fairway to assess his gap, puffs his chalk bag to check the wind, then goes back to his lie and tries both stances again, then ditches his 3 discs to go grab 2 more, then gets back to his lie, picks his stance, then checks to see if his arm swing is obstructed, then takes a few practice swings, then takes a deep breath and finally throws it, all taking over 1 minute for the whole routine, that's unfair to the rest of the card and the field. That's exactly what he does.

Pace of play is crucial in sports. That's why we see pitch clocks in baseball, shot clocks in basketball, and play clocks in football. While each sport requires players to adhere to these time limits, it's important to note that players can still manipulate the pace to disrupt their opponents' rhythm. For example, in disc golf, a player who hits a perfect shot shouldn't take an excessive amount of time to prepare for their next shot. However, if a player misses a shot and needs to scramble, they should be allowed more time. Perhaps a more effective approach would be to monitor the pace of play for shots both in and out of the fairways.
@caseysmith544
@caseysmith544 2 сағат бұрын
This is exactly what the whole PDGA needs to play well is a true play clock based how PGA has one for scramble shots giving an extra 30 seconds of time from the 40 or 45 seconds in normal play. Outside of putts where they are open for the basket, they get 30 seconds and 1 minute for the obstructed putt. The Disc Golf Pro Tour needs more officials or at least who they have as paid for the day contract officials becuse of the issues since day one that have only got worse on close calls taking up so much time.

This is the format of the PGA Tour already with the FedEx Cup. The problem with it in disc golf is the scoring potential is so much higher. I thought the golf during the DGPT Championship was an amazing display. Especially Round 2. It was incredible. Maybe I am in the minority, but the scoring format is something I personally enjoy as it rewards you for great play during the season. However, I doubt it comes back as it seems universally hated.

Thank you for your coverage this year. I enjoyed watching Ricky and Buhr on Friday but can understand the apathy towards the event. The margin of victory for both MPO and FPO were the bonus shots earned for the season and I am glad the two best players for the year won. So it took losing a six shot lead for a $35k prize for someone to finally call out Gannon for the time he takes to throw a disc. Wondering if this and the problem with Selinske playoff will inspire a change.

did ricky even call the violation? jomez coverage said it was an official, and that ricky seconded it? Either way imagine caring that gannon gets called once in a blue moon. it's Gannon's choice not to work through his time needs. And it doesn't matter what situation it gets called, you can't get salty about it "just because it matters". Should the current score affect if a player gets the benefit of the doubt in uncertain situations? If there was anything that made ricky zone out on the back 9 it was becuase of the call, and because gannon didn't get unlucky on a few iffy shots.

Absolute the greatest tournament of the year for a spectator and someone who love this sport from start to end. And has nothing to do with the hype around a rivalery between 2 players trough the event. The course was amazing, and i hope that US will build and go on this path forward. Instead of just having those bomber courses, where all advantage is having the ability to throw furthest to be able gain a Edge with a shorter approach for ur birdieputt. This event had pretty much all you want and should Ask from players. Disc, angle and speed controll. Where its not set who will win, but the one who is open for those who actually have controll over What their doing. U can do a comparrison between a F1 race and a dragrace between the skills. One shows the driving skills, the other one is raw power. And i think like the US tour have been going last years, more toward power/ and away alot from what was facinating with the sport and acknowledge by people as skills for shotshaping and actual ways of utilizing the disc and have controll of what you do with it in a Wodden course. This is for many what you relate to when you think of what a discgolf tournament should be. By far the best tournament Ive seen on the US side this year.

Although I know of no other sport that gives bonus points at the start of games, my first reaction to this setup is that it’s a novel idea in a novelty sport. As for the time violations, same thing. If I’m watching an NBA game and there is a time violation, it’s an automatic turnover. In disc golf, it’s just a call with no consequences. But outside of a niche audience, no one in the sports world will ever hear about it.

Yes, the problem is that the Disc Golf Pro Tour is trying to emulate Professional Golf Association, but it is not the right move for the sport nor is the look right for traditional golf. The bigger issue is trying to make it harder to watch the sport showing it one time live on the DGN streaming site. I do agree the season is too long as I remember the old PDGA National Tour in the 2006 to 2014 when the Pro Tour Started being where the PDGA did the season ender in Agusta at the PDGA headquarters before USDGC then eventually by 2009 did the throw pink the after on the same USDGC course set up the same for the next weekend where before during the week the Disc Golf team played other teams. Now the Disc Golf Pro Tour moved back the Throw Pink to where it was held in 2000's from 2004 to 2009 and play on the same weekend as USDGC thus making the event seem even worse. Odd part is their was plans to move the USDGC women's similar event into Throw Pink as the same event because they were for a few years playing the same course as USDGC.

Buhr is notorious for time violations. If every time violation from his first year WAS called he would have been disqualified. So trying to change things now is kinda pointless.

80% of the 80 players I think will remain unsigned possibly having to quit becuse of Hall of Disc cost cutting from the Latitude brands and Prodigy issues and that nobody can fill them on teams that are already filled with players. The top players sure some like Ricky or a few women's European players have enough money or outside sponsors they could keep playing but most are being dropped for good. Some newer unattached to bigger brands making discs for them might be able to have players soon and a few bigger disc selling brands like Gotta Go Gotta Throw or Disc Nation (they have own baskets) could potentially step up on players maybe even some backpack or basket company that has portable baskets could do something to help.

I think it's not quite fair to categorize the time violation Rick called as "only being called when it benefits him..." It might be that he feels he NEEDS to call it when his opponent is ignoring the clock and hence gains* an advantage over Rick (who plays by the rule) Or it could totally be a mind fuck! Call that shit when it suits you. No shame in that imo. This is a nuance of self officiated sports. I've played a dozen competitive Ultimate Frisbee games where contact/fouls/travele were not called and were tolerated and the play went on like nothing happened all game long. But suddenly when there's 3 minutes left and you're up a couple goals you start calling EVERY. SINGLE. POSSIBLE. VIOLATION. as the game clock doesn't stop for that shit. Burn the clock. Win the game. I've always thought knowing the rules is partially for my benefit. So I can call that shit out if I need to!

its obvious why they got rid of the cut and changed the format. before, the top pros would all be getting a bye, meaning they would skip the first two rounds. DGN knows that people want to watch the top pros, and if none of them are playing the first 2 days, nobody will watch those rounds. this is certainly just to increase revenue and get more people to watch the first 2 rounds

The time violation warning really backfired on Rick. He needs to concentrate on his game and steer clear of the bush-league tactics.

Kinda wild, since Sexton wasn't on commentary final round for Jomez and I relistened to commentary and nobody said that. So what are you talking about, exactly? This is why we cite our sources.

Not out of line when he’s being honest. Call it how you see it. Nate’s been in the sport a long time. He has seen these tricks before. Nothing wrong with calling a violation. That’s the rules. But how many foot faults have we’ve seen called on Ricky and he argues his way out of them or friends won’t second the call?

Make it a four round tournament everyone starts at 0 but there is a cut off every day until there is only 2 cards left on the final day. Scores carry over from the previous day and if a players are tied the tie breaker goes to tour standings.

I think the trees is a good idea. SMH. It's like asking NBA players to offical their own games like it's the school yard. Didn't say it's an easy fix just don't think being on the players is the best way

@@monkeyearcheese420 except for the NBA is profitable and can pay people to do so. Not hard to use your brain and see that even in peewee they have refs that are paid. Disc golf is always on players as it's not profitable.

@@sylol200 do you feel better now. More superior and intelligent? I didn't say I know how to fix it just that it shouldn't be on the players. It creates a weird dynamic and gets a little sus when two people are in contention for 35000 dollars.
