I think for me, the Mission Impossible films do a better job at suspense and informing the audience of the stakes and risks of each set piece. Part of what makes a good action sequence is that suspense Every Tom Cruise produced movie in the last decade has me on the edge of my seat or legs bouncing from the suspense. Its extremely thrilling

I watch this movie, and I am not kidding whatsoever, every few months. Probably every 2-4 months. It’s one of the best action movies ever made, and I have zero hesitation in saying that. Your inability to think of any downsides is exactly how I feel - I think it’s a perfect movie. It is so good, so well made, that even in rewatches it gets your adrenaline pumping and is just as enthralling as the first time you saw it. The character work is fantastic, the pace is on-point, the inclusion of both Julia and Ilsa is executed to perfection, the story is interesting without being convoluted, the soundtrack is AMAZING, it’s all just… utter perfection. There are no words to describe just how excited I am for Dead Reckoning. Possibly the most excited I’ve been for a movie, ever. Glad you loved this movie - it’s cool to see a Bond fan give it a thumbs up!

I think from Ghost Protocol onwards, Mission Impossible has been the best action franchise around. The last Bond film I felt was on that level was Casino Royale. Dead Reckoning is the one film this summer I'm really looking forward to. Eon films should definitely be looking at these films as a model for where to take 007 post-Daniel Craig.

I agree with @kevint1719. The MI films have the perfect mix of action and humour that the Bond films used to have. In other words, the MI films are enjoyable, as were the Bond films until Quantum. As a lifelong Bond fan I’m more excited with a new MI film than the glacial pace of the next Bond film. “Do keep up, 007!” EDIT: sadly MI: Dead Reckoning wasn’t as good as the previous 3 MI films 😔

It's difficult to remember now, but the first Mission Impossible movie came at a time when many 1960s/70s tv shows were getting the modern day big screen treatment. The Adams Family, The Avengers, The Brady Bunch, Lassie, The Flintstones, Lost in Space and Charlie's Angels were some of the other tv shows that got movies based on them at this time. Mission Impossible and The Fugitive were the best in my opinion. Mission Impossible Fallout shows how much the films have transcended their source material.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I mean the whole nuclear threat plot is kind of old. They did the same thing in Ghost Protocol. Everything was leading down to Ethan stopping a nuke. I'm surprised Ethan didnt yell out, "Mission accomplished" when he stopped the nuke in Fallout. I loved the unexpected ending to Rogue Nation. Everything leading up to that point was wonderful and exciting and smart. Everything a Mission Impossible movie should be

9:54 Christopher McQuarrie was brought in on Ghost Protocol [as an uncredited writer] during filming where Julia was meant to have died between films. He said it would make MI3 meaningless and Cruise agreed so the cameo scene was arranged. He also said he felt he couldn't have Ethan+ Ilsa get properly together [they don't even have a kiss in the two films to this point] until the audience and Ethan knows Julia is doing well and her storyline is wrapped up.

Well, Ethan can be overpraised to an extent as you say, but remember that LITERALLY every movie he's accused of being a traitor or terrorist and is hunted down by former allies and new foes. The only exception is 2, but guess what, the villain wears a Tom Cruise mask TWICE, he's literally the evil Ethan Hunt. That stuff rarely happens to James Bond. “I may not like you, but you love your audience.” That is an apt explanation for how I turned around about Cruise since his bonkers behavior back in 2005. Unpopular opinion: as a person who loves hugely the 007 saga, I think the last two M:I films are much better than the 007 ones with Craig as James Bond. Rogue Nation and Fallout are so entertaining and great that they make me miss more the time when 007 movies were full of fun and only a little of drama. Last but not the least, I've probabily fallen in love with Rebecca Ferguson since the first time I saw her: for me she would have been the best Bond girl since Izabella Scorupco in Goldeneye, since I don't apprecitate the Bond girls of the Craig era, except for Eva Green and Ana de Armas.

I remember a review of this film back when it came out describing it as "Ethan Hunt's Skyfall or On Her Majesty's Secret Service" or something a long those lines and I can absolutely see the "Skyfall" comparisons with how both are essentially about proving why the main characters way f things matters despite all the odds stacked against them. Still looking forward to "Dead Reckoning Part 1", although I am reserving myself this time especially after being somewhat letdown by the likes of "John Wick: Chapter 4" and "Across the Spider-Verse" even if those two films are not bad per say.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard a Poochy reference in regards to writing a character out of a franchise (the other was a Dial of Destiny review on another channel), I'd have two nickels, but it's funny it's happened twice this week 😂

This was my entry into the Mi movies and I saw it by chance on a rainy day, and LOVED it. I went in to the cinema looking to kill some time and came out stunned. I may have seen the first one or two on tv back in the day, but didn't recall them. Since seeing Fallout I have seen all of the movies in the series and have really enjoyed all of them! 4, 5 and 6 all are impressive and each gives a stronger turn for the Mi team. Can't wait for Mi7 and 8! It was great to see the team set up a while back in Birmingham ahead of filming for the latest film.

I like this movie, but the original is still my favourite. What I like about this film (and indeed the show and original film) is that it does have quite a complex plot. In my spy films I generally prefer the ones with lots of twists and turns. This might be the only movie franchise based on a classic show that’s still around and doing good money. I mean, is Charlie’s Angels this successful?

It is my fave of the series in no small part to Walker as the antagonist. I also love the way they build more from the third film on in the series. If you like Mcquarrie-check out Way of the Gun his directorial debut. Criminally underrated!

Vanessa Kirby being Max’ daughter is crazy. She was a child by the time of the first movie and there was Ethan messing things up for her family. Then like 25 years later, there’s Ethan again! I don’t hate it, I think it’s kinda funny actually

Is there any other film series that got as far as six movies deep where it's pretty much universally agreed it got consistently better as it got along? Even with Bond, I think the general consensus is the third is the best of the first half dozen. In terms of Bond/MI comparisons, I think it's actually a good thing for Bond that its main counterpart is also something that was originally a 60s cold war mired franchise. MI also being hugely successful should kill any "Is Bond still relevant?" discourse.

I really love her [even in lesser projects she's great] and Ilsa as a character. Shame we'll never get a spin off as the character is strong enough to have her own film/series but can't wait to see more of her in DR Part 1.

Somewhat left-field but if you're in the market for two movies full of the Fallout bathroom fight tension, I'd recommend the Indonesian martial arts films The Raid and its sequel. The Raid 2 has a little undercover spy stuff going on (and the cinematography is outstanding), but they're martial arts films above all else. The best in the business in my opinion.

What a great movie. Tom Cruise is a modern Buster Keaton, putting himself in harm's way for our entertainment. Cruise's commitment is on display in every frame of Fallout. Henry Cavill also embodies the blunt instrument M said Bond would become. While he may not end up playing Bond, his roles here and in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. present an intriguing window into how he might handle the role.

I do think this film shows he's more than the 'Roger Moore' Bond he got labelled with after Uncle and could do a darker take. His next films are Argyll and 'Ministry of Ungentlemanly warfare' which are also aiming to be in the vain of Bond.

Whoa, I'm late ! I've been waiting for this one for soooo long! Finally you'll see what all the hype is about. The thing this film does which I’ve missed from the Bond series is the idea of a main bad guy with a henchman where the henchman and protagonist square off at the end. I appreciate the humor the films have started to incorporate, and last can we acknowledge that Tom Cruise is older than Sir Roger Moore was when he did View to a Kill?

To be fair, had it not been for the successful James Bond franchise Mission Impossible would have never happened. Based on the television series which at the time was inspired by James Bond, there was always this sense of suspense with the MI television series for an ensemble cast of characters. Yes I too loved "Fallout" and I am glad you mentioned the scene with the female French Traffic Warden. I so loved that scene, not knowing where it would go and then that desire to protect innocent people was quite a moment. I liked James Bond a lot and Mission Impossible also. Too bad the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie was such a lame attempt. But I guess that would have evolved into a James Bond ripoff - even though the television series was really good.

Bond is the father of both. It's Dr No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger which started the spy-thriller raze after their release, and the Mission Impossible TV show was a by product of the same.

Fallout is the best of MI films. What I really like is how it ties together all the previous films from MI3 together. It did it a lot better than Spectre did with Craig's Bond films. Rob Hardy and Lorne Balfe were great additions to the crew. I liked Hardy's work since Testament of Youth and he's a regular collaborator with Alex Garland, whilst Balfe is a big-name composer and Fallout was one of his best scores. I do find it funny that MI - Fallout was the film that forced Warner Brothers to use CGI off Cavill's moustache for Joss Wheldon's Justice League
@jamesatkinsonja

In fairness, Mission Impossible 1-5 are largely stand alone so it was easier to make 6 a direct sequel to 5 while rapping up lose ends [Max, Jules] from the earlier films while Craig's films were a continuing story from the off [James Bond radio said it's Skyfall benching the Quantum/Spectre arc which leads to issues later] even if Spectre's execution is undeniably clunky. MI is a bit like if the Brosnan series started to be serialised towards the end. Fallout does pull the threads together very naturally which makes me hopeful they'll pull off the two part Dead reckoning, particularly as the trailer shows call backs/follow up on from the 1996 film.
