I have no option either way Im studying the scriptures to make my opinion, however I feel pastor Nolan did not explain the meaning of total depravity correctly.. The doctrine of total depravity asserts that people are, as a result of the fall, not inclined or even able to love God wholly with heart, mind, and strength, but rather are inclined by nature to serve their own will and desires and reject his rule.

I had a firsthand experience with this, with a good friend and pastor. I had never heard of Calvinism, until, he told me about it. He believed three points of the Tulip. I did a lot of research after that and wrote a book on it. It is a religion used by the devil to confuse. I knew that I had been saved since I was 20 and I knew the Word. I am now 31 years old in the Lord. I knew, based on my personal relationship with the Lord, and knowing His Word, that it was a lie, straight from the liar of all liars! In the south, Calvinism was making a big comeback in the church through young preachers...seminary school preachers. Very sad, because many will believe it or turn a blind eye to it.

The Decision of the Synod of Dort on the Five Main Points of Doctrine in Dispute in the Netherlands is popularly known as the Canons of Dort. It consists of statements of doctrine adopted by the great Synod of Dort, which met in the city of Dordrecht in 1618-19. Although this was a national synod of the Reformed churches of the Netherlands, it had an international character, since it was composed not only of Dutch delegates but also of twenty-six delegates from eight foreign countries. The Synod of Dort was held in order to settle a serious controversy in the Dutch churches initiated by the rise of Arminianism. Jacob Arminius, a theological professor at Leiden University, questioned the teaching of Calvin and his followers on a number of important points. After Arminius’s death, his own followers presented their views on five of these points in the Remonstrance of 1610. In this document and in later more explicit writings, the Arminians taught election based on foreseen faith, the universal application of Christ’s atonement available to all who freely choose to accept it, limited human depravity, the resistibility of God’s grace, and the possibility of a fall from salvation. In the Canons the Synod of Dort rejected these views and set forth the Reformed teaching on these points with the purpose of offering a deeper assurance of salvation to believers in accordance with the teaching of the Scriptures.

The problem most people have with predestination is this; they don’t believe in the sovereignty of God. If God is Sovereign, does not He have the right to choose who he wants to be saved??? Another thing; in the Hebrew culture of the Old Testament, The father will choose the wife for His Son. Didn’t Abraham choose the wife for Isaac??. So why wouldn’t God choose the Bride for His Son???

Yes, look at Jacob in Genesis, he wanted Rachel for a wife but it was Leah God chose to be the woman from whom Christ would come. Leah the wife he didn't prefer nor wanted to begin with. Exactly the same point being made: that it is God's election, not man's preference.

The true heresy is Arminian free will theology. The bottom line issue is this; Does God choose us as believers; or did we choose God? Just as God chose only Israel as His covenant people in the OT; God chooses only an Elect Sheep (chosen from both Jews and Gentiles) in the NT. Jesus told His disciples plainly; "You did not choose Me; but I chose you!" "That is why the world hates you; because I have chosen you out of the world." If God does not choose you; then you will one day here from Him; "Depart from Me; I never knew you!" There is not even a debate on this topic....the only reason there is a debate is because humans naturally hate the idea that salvation is 100% God ; 0% man. Many of the disciples hated it when Jesus taught what you call Calvinism. Simply read John 6:64-66 " Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him." If Arminian free will theology were true; then you would have NO NEED whatsoever for words like Predestination; Called; Chosen; Elect etc etc....The Arminian has to make up a bunch of nonsense to even try to explain what those words mean or why they are even needed.....

"Feed my sheep." Notice He didn't tell Peter to get out there and save as many goats as you can!" Did He? Thats because God builds His Church...Jesus said "I will build My Church!" He includes us in the process; we get to preach the Gospel. But He is not depending on us to build His Church. Jesus saves ALL the Elect sheep; not one more, and not less; ALL of them. Thats what Jesus taught in John 6 and John 10. God is depending on us to feed the sheep however.....and there are huge consequences when we fail to do that.

Malachi 1:2-5 Which is the better translation for the text, hate, not chosen, or preferred? I believe the correct biblical exegete interpretation is hate. God laid to WASTE HIS HILL COUNTRY, left his heritage to JACKALS OF THE DESERT, and if they rebuild He will tear down the WICKED COUNTRY, a people the Lord will be ANGRY WITH FOREVER. This passage reminds me of 1 Samuel 15. For many Christians see God's character in the light of Veggie Tales or Santa Claus, He is always loving, fair, and forgiving. No, HE is GOD. He is outside of my parameters of understanding and I can not impose my values on HIM. Good job on Romans 9, salvation is not by works nor family heritage. Thank you ... Good Study

Calvinism is BLASHPHEMOUS??? I swear, listening to non-Calvinists talk about Calvinism is like listening to a man describing what labor pains feel like... How can a lost person who is spiritually dead in trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1), by his own innate ability (which he does not have, cf. John 6:63), correctly understand and interpret spiritual truth (1 Corinthians 2:14)? How can a lost person savingly believe in Christ when saving faith is a free gift of God (James 1:18) and when, by nature, man is at enmity with God (Romans 5:10) and will not (John 1:13) and cannot (John 6:44) come to God because he is enslaved to sin (John 3:19), loving only to practice evil deeds continually (John 3:19)? The Biblical answer to both of these questions is that man can neither actually nor logically cause nor contribute any efficacy to his salvation because he is spiritually unable to do so, that is, he is totally depraved.

Everyone is born a sinner, some gravitate more toward sin due to their environment, and their individual physical susceptibility to various substances, but that does not mean that God can not save even the most deplorable of sinners. God doesn't say to anyone " your to sinful to be saved". To often man thinks he can know the inner thinking of an all knowing God by using his miniscule mind. If Jesus died to cover the sins of all, one of two realities must be true. 1. Jesus successfully did what He intended to do, and paid for the sins of all. Since He paid for the sins of all, all people will go to Heaven. The Bible speaks of people going to Hell, therefore this must not be true. 2. If not everyone is going to Heaven yet Jesus paid for the sins of all, His payment was an imperfect payment. Jesus is perfect and as seen Psalm 115:3, He has all that He desires. So, either Jesus blood, though sufficient for all, was only applied to some, or Jesus is Imperfect.

@@sircassie891 The best arguments for limited atonement were written by John Owen in his book, The Death of Death in the Death of Christ. Jesus not only purchased the forgiveness of our sins but the finished product of our salvation (sanctification included). He looses none of His sheep, complete redemption, body and soul. Jesus did not die in the potential for people to choose to believe in Him, He died in particular for all the elect.

Thank you for your insight into scripture, it is a joy listening to you preach. However, you little secret comment, "pastors are dumb, lazy, and can not do anything else for a living" seemed very unprofessional. I know many pastors and most of us who teach at small churches have two or in some cases three jobs. I am not a Calvinist but the ones I know are very knowledgeable, intelligent, and well informed with the word of God. And yes, Calvinist are very aware of biblical hermeneutics and exegete.

If "a person is unable to respond on their own" and yet upon hearing the gospel, they believe in Jesus, and they are saved - what's the problem with that? Unless your goal is a church full of ritualized unsaved people, then it must be okay to just depend upon rituals like "coming forward" , saying a "sinners prayer" or signing a pledge card. If a person is unable to respond on their own, but they do respond and are born again - how would you ever know that they were saved by Grace Alone, or whether it was something that they did that helped to save them? If they are saved, then they are saved. This pastor is making a mountain out of a mole hill. I have no idea what the secret things of God are, and neither does this pastor. Is he trying to say that the Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Trinity is not involved in salvation? If Jesus died for every person who has ever been born, then Jesus died for persons who are in hell. That is not a Christian belief!;. That can't be true.

God Chooses Us - Before We can Choose Him. Only if The Holy Spirit Allows - Can Faith Exist. Jesus Said that He Came to Savevthose that His Father had Given to Him && He would Not Lose Any of them. This is Stated over & Over again -- without SCREAMING. JESUS IS THE GOOD SHEPARD & HE WILL NOT ALLOW ANY OF HIS FLOCK TO BE LOST... THE REGENERATED Christian will not be lost - but taken into Glory... You are Saved by Faith - Not By Your Works ( any thing that you do ). Being Chosen by God is The Key....Only The Elect - according to The Bible -- will have Faith Increased so as to Understand ....Only the Elect will have their Blinders removed... Predestination is indicated throughout the Bible. This Teaching on this Subject is poppy - cock by someone who speaks quickly & rambles back & forth -- without certain straightforward orthodox teaching..

Romans 9:6 clearly starts to open that not all from corporate Israel are true Israel. It is not from ethnicity. God elected from the whole of Israel the true Israel. See verses 7-9 the language clearly is speaking in salvation terms. "Children of promise, children of God". We all come to different conclusions. I love all brothers and sisters in Christ.. but it makes me sad to hear this mocking tone when he speaks of Calvinists and says that many pastors are not just smart. He is wrong in that. In all Christian traditions there are smart men and women who have studied the Scripture and this is one of the passages. I am not one of those smart guys.. hope to be one day.. but I will change my views if I am wrong. I studied this chapter and the whole section, but the passage clearly speaks of salvation to eternal life. TULIP acronym is a poor one and is used often by non-Calvinists to summarize this doctrine. God bless you!

The Bible is clear on predestination doctrine once you are aware of it as you read. Yes, it is a delicate topic and must be studied with prayer. But- to imply that a true heavyweight in theology like RC isn’t smart enough to do anything else??? That man was clearly gifted and intelligent. Wow, just wow.

The theological implications of what’s being said with regards to molinism and with regards to God basing His salvation of an individual being related on the actions of the person causes so many errors I have no idea where to begin. All this assumes that there cannot be a decree of God. God simply created but there was no decree so therefore God has to take in knowledge from future events and then saves the person based upon what they’ll do in the future. So many errors that if he’s consistent, he would be an open theist. Goodness me, this is what happens when you try escaping the clear teaching of scripture.

Love Pastor Allen but I would say this differently. All God's children are pre-destined for Heaven. None for Hell. This explains why the aborted or mentally ill still go to Heaven despite not hearing God's Word, repenting and seeking salvation. We're all pre-destined for Heaven, the only we can do is screw it up and willfully reject Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

Does God actually give everyone the ""same Chance"" No. He did not in the Old ir New Testament -- and only those who Are His will receive a Glorified Body... There will be more lost than saved && that is a Fact.. This is not Scriptural && You are Twisting God's Holy Bible. It is Fighting Words to Hear Someone Twist Scripture Into His Own Desire -- of What God's Will Is. God Clearly States that He will have Mercy on who He wants to Have Mercy on..He also clearly States in the Bible that Those Who Are Lost will also be used for His Glory.

When differentiating between Jacob and Esau we have to consider the reason God preferred one over the other. What is completely overlooked is that both spirits had to incarnate from somewhere in the lower spirit world where they had been confined since The Fall. We are not suddenly all born into human bodies from nowhere. Everyone is so concerned trying to ensure their entry into Heaven - life after death, but nobody gives any thought as to where we have come from - or "life before life". Was Jacob a spirit of better disposition or standing than Esau? They were fighting in the womb which suggests that perhaps Jacob was a spirit chosen by God and Esau chosen by Satan in an attempt to thwart God's Plan of Redemption. Until Reincarnation is recognised as the missing doctrine of Christianity (The Church Fathers acknowledged it) the great questions of Christianity will remain unresolved. God's apparent cruelty does not appear so extreme when one considers that He was simply resetting the chess board at the time of the Flood. Everyone was sent back to the Hell from whence they came and the human race was restarted all over again. I suspect most of us have incarnated and returned to Hell on several occasions. Thanks to Christ's Redemptive Mission we no longer have to return to Hell at the end of our earthly lives - we have the option of rejecting the ruler of this world and accepting Christ, whom we rejected so long ago, as the rightful King of Heaven and our Saviour.

This pastor is either being deceptive or ignorant... Know this: 1.) Translations of bibles are done by comitees. It just so happens that God has given us our translations and commitees by Calvanists. He is eluding to the translations being wrong (and it just so happened that Calvinists translated all credible translations.) 2.) God created everything not arbitrary, but exact. Middle knowledge is the idea that God knows everything "because he is God". Divine Unconditional Election is on account of God knowing what He has made everything out of. Everything being everything aspect of a personality and your journey. Everything accounted for being all sin Jesus died for as well. Christ didn't ultimately die for every sin, ever... He could of, but according to what God put in an individual it will not be redeemed. Salvation is a gift. All have been called to recieve, but only the elect of Jesus Christ can recieve because they belong to Him. Any who enter the sheep pin by any other means than the gate is a thief. His sheep know His voice, because they were elected to recieve the word... not just lucky or smart. God does all the work in salvation, even calling you. If this isn't the case, maybe you could brag or boast about how you got in... it wasn't through the creator creating everything. It was because you heard the word and saved yourself. Ultimately brethren: it is God who saves not mere men responding to God, but God who has completed the work once and for all. Prideful pastors and hate filled pators hate Calvanism, because it is a doctrine you will understand... whenever you start living like your told. Not just in word or in action, but from the heart as God intended it. Answer this question: If Calvanism were true would you believe it? If your answer is no... then you do not follow the truth, move aside and allow others to heal from truth. If your answer is yes. Search John MacArthur unconditional election for a fair understanding of the position. It will make everything very clear.

God has not looked into the future like some fortune Teller, and saw who would believe and who wouldn't, and then decide to Save! It is God who created the Future and all the events that are to take place in it! Those who believe in The Reformed doctrine aren't as stupid and ignorant of the Meaning of Scripture as this Fellow is claiming. All the events this Preacher spoke about came about only by the Will and purpose of Almighty God, NOT by Happenstance, and if he believes they did, then He's the Idiot, not me. If you don't Believe God picks and chooses whom to have Mercy and who not to, what do you think He did with The Flood of Noah? How about Lot's family and the people of Sodom and Gomorrah? Where do you think Sampson's strength came from, and when? Was it just by Chance? What about all the Peoples of all the Nations God has destroyed for the sole reason that His chosen people would continue? If God chooses to Elect those who HE saw in the future Elect Him as this Preacher stated, Then God's choice of Election means nothing! The choice would have been made FOR Him already, not BY HIM. "Free Will" doctrine is the most Self Centered Egotistical, Man centered Doctrine being taught in Churches today. It puts Man at the center of Salvation. The Reformed Doctrine, which is backed by Scripture, puts God at the beginning, center and end of Salvation, through Jesus Christ. To GOD be the power and Glory, amen.
