You should definitly check your suspension setup! Its not going to work as it is supposed to do with 15% sag in the rear. I would try to aim for about 25-30% in the rear, and 20-30%(this depends more on what you like and your body position when you ride) in the front. Try to hit the preferred sag with only adjusting air pressure, then add more volume spacers if you bottom out too easy, or remove tokens if you dont use full travel on bigger hits.
@nickryan32873 жыл бұрын
Yeah not sure why people run 15% sag in the rear. Its not preference. Preference is where you land between 25-35% sag rear, 15-25% front. I hate to sound condescending but if youre on mtb KZbin you've probably seen gmbn. Follow the 10 minute setup guide. It just works. The more Bigger features and g outs you hit, keep chucking in spacers. If that doesn't work, maybe its time to splash for a custom tune. Some big dudes struggle for proper ramp and damping on stock tunes and i get that, but you really gotta be pushing 250 before that starts to become very apparent. But never is 15% sag the way to get bottom out you want. When I ride my heavier buddies bikes at 15% sag they ride like absolute garbage. Especially on a long travel bike like this, ill run 35% in the rear just to really hit the sweet spot in the leverage curve where the bike park high speed chatter disappears, but its not ideal for everything. Fix your damping and ramp, not your spring rate/sag.
@TheShredShedMTB3 жыл бұрын
I was only running 15% because I didn’t have any volume spacers to add. Obviously adding is the way to go but when you don’t have any, lower sag is better than continuous bottom outs (I’m in that weight range)

Nicely done! Had been on the fence with Santa Cruz (IMPOSSIBLE to find direct from them in small ... LBS said their rep didn't have a date cause Covid plus California wildfires delaying shipments) and Pivot. Both obviously two of the best brands, but dropping $7k for a bike just didn't really sit well with me (or my wife). Had checked out YT and Canyon, but availability is sketchy at best, and when I'd call them direct they've been telling me "next month" since July, but still no bike. Ended up looking at Commencal, and really like how they communicate availability and would actually prefer aluminum to carbon when considering expense. I like how the put most their resources into the more important parts (fork, shock) as parts like derailleurs, saddles and handlebars typically get replaced/upgraded anyway. Started reading reviews online and really starting to feel comfortable with their customer service reputation and just overall kickass looking bikes aesthetically. Your review was excellent and I'm really considering pulling the trigger, especially since they're about $2-3k less than what I thought I'd get originally.

Reallllly torn between this bike and the status 160. You may say the price is pretty different, but theirs things on the status you’d want to change out in a timely fashion, making the pricepoint roughly the same. The worst part is than the information on the status 160 is virtually non-existent after the first release of it back in august, but I’ve been eying up the new clash for awhile now. Just sucks that I wouldn’t be able to test ride either bike before buying, since my LBS thinks I’m crazy because I asking them about the status and they didn’t even known it existed, also with there being no commencal dealers available in the US. Hopefully I can find someone with one of them to give it a try, BTW great review!!
@MrLongboarder873 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your having a lot of issues with parts moving that shouldn’t move after being torqued. The one practice I’ve never understood is lubricating a part that’s getting clamped. I’ve seen so many guys lube a part that gets clamped then torqued, it makes no sense. If it has paint and doesn’t move don’t grease it before you torque it. Corrosion isn’t going to damage your aluminum if it’s painted. If it’s a part that sees a lot of dirt and water just clean it every few rides then re torque. If all else fails test your torque wrench and make sure it’s accurate. If it is then the part that’s clamping or the part that getting clamped it’s strong enough for the task or the engineers are calling out for less torque then it needs. Increase your torque 10% till it reaches 150% of the recommended torque. If it still slips then the parts or the design isn’t up to the task. Standard engendering protocol is everything is built to at least 150% of intended use. I’m not a bike tech or an engineer but I am an A&P mechanic (planes, rockets, aerospace) and the same materials and concepts for assembly are the same.

You probably have answered this already. But why did you choose the Clash instead of the Meta Am? The Clash is really designed for bike parks or serious enduro. Be nice to hear your answer and reason behind choosing this rig. Thanks.
@TheShredShedMTB3 жыл бұрын
The primary reason is that I wasn’t ready to go 29. Going from a medium frame mid travel trail bike to a long travel large frame, I didn’t want to increase the wheel size too. That being said, I knew that an enduro bike would still be able to handle the stuff I ride on a daily basis, but it’s designed for the stuff that I prefer to ride. It might sound a little backwards, but if I could only have one bike, I wanted one that preformed best on what I like to ride, rather than meeting in the middle. Does that make sense? Lol

@@TheShredShedMTB No that makes perfect sense to me, I know exactly what you mean! Im currently undecided on which one to get myself, I’m torn between the Meta TR or the Meta AM. I think it will all come down to cost for me, I’m not worried about the waiting times to get it or anything.

Thank you. It’s one of the bikes I am looking at getting next. I have a Ghost FRAMR 6.7, it is a 170/165mm 27.5 bike. love the big 27.5 bikes despite really only needed 150mm here is SD. I just love to make the suspension as soft as I can with the long travel and I feel like I can just float over everything and just fly down the trail.

Recently, I checked the Commencal website and found out that they changed the sizing for the 2021 clash, and I bought the frame way before they change the sizing, I am 5'11, I don't know whether I should keep the large or ask them to change to medium. (Which has a very high chance of adding a few more months of wait time)

Change it im 511 215 they said medium was gunna get the clash but got the meta29tr ride

Hey im the same height as you inseam of 32" and cant decide between the medium or large, did you get a chance to try a medium ? When riding do you think that a medium might of been better off or are you super happy with the sizing ?

@@TheShredShedMTB Only having one other mtb which is a ghost kato trail bike in a large. it feels quiet big. I've ridden my dads siskiu which is a medium and that feels really fun and am able to throw it around a fair bit. Comming from a bmx background for 10 years i think im leaning towards the medium size.

you breaking your RD is exactly why i dont use shimano on an offroad bike... they can just brake for the sake of it
@TheShredShedMTB3 жыл бұрын
I can only speak to the slx model, but I’m surprised that it’s basically made of plastic...
@MrSupermugen3 жыл бұрын
@@TheShredShedMTB yea, ive broken a bunch of shimano RD. I broke a sram sx but havnt broken a nx or gx one yet. Just if gx could feel like slx/xt but keep strength woupd be great lol
@TheShredShedMTB3 жыл бұрын
I will say this, I definitely prefer the feel and response of the SLX over the Sram NX that I put on after breaking.
@MrSupermugen3 жыл бұрын
@@TheShredShedMTB 100% man, even deore is better feeling than sx/nx/gx. I always tell people to use deore on thier builds as price vs performance is awesome, just dont smack it on something lol.
