Cam Locs on a Speed Helmet?

I build Helmets as a hobby, and are have lots of different models. I have use the cam lock on several different Helmets. It is a little more expensive to use one of the cam locks but they look great on a collectible. You do not have to worry about them moving around sitting on a shelf. They come in many colors to coordinate with your display helmet. I have had great luck getting screws and such from my local neighborhood hardware store. You will get more help finding exactly what you need for screws by visiting a small store that has loose nuts and bolts screws and such. Personally are use ace, ace is the place.

Quick Question: is it possible to use the Douglas EZ Pro Chinstrap Buckles in place of the standard ones for the speed? If so, can you make a video about it ? I know you mentioned the buckles are hard to buckle for younger kids so I’m thinking about that would make the process a lot easier ! 👍🏽

Hey there! Usually buckles are pretty interchangeable, so you should be able to swap them out with a little elbow grease! We'll see what we can do about making a video!

The cam-loc's have no minimum age! They work on both adult and youth helmets

We don't recommend it because the cam-locs can come out. The buckets provide a guaranteed, secure fit on a Speed helmet

The ratchet attachment was actually the first generation cam-loc, so they no longer are in production. You might be able to find them on eBay though!

What size was the chin strap in the video I’m just wondering bc I just bought a cam lock riddle chin strap for my speed helmet and my helmet size is a large youth and I got the chin strap in a medium do you think I would be good??

We usually advise to go with the same size chinstrap as your helmet

Is there a way to punch holes in the end of a sportstar chin strap to insert those rubber retainers to use on the Cam-Loc? I want to switch out my Riddell harcup for a XD Victory TRex but I do not want to use the buckle system 🤔

You could definitely DIY it, but make sure that the chinstrap is stable and won't slide out during the game.

I'd say, definitely don't use nails on your helmet. There is though, quite a few ways to jerry rig a cam-loc system on to a Speed helmet.

What if you fabricate a housing for the square thing to sit in would that work to prevent it from moving

In theory, you could. We honestly don't recommend fabricating any part of the helmet, for safety reasons. But, if you figure out a good way to do it, let us know!

Why are the Speed valve covers so incredibly difficult to find? I've had to figure out how to use SF valve covers on my Speed helmets.

Since the Speed is becoming an older helmet it can make parts a but more difficult to find. Riddell should have what you need!

Yes, but the movement isn't as drastic, as the straps are secured by the snap post. The cam-loc housing is not properly secured on a Speed helmet and can come undone as it pivots

My 12 year old hates the snap on chin strap for his Speed helmet. He has a hard time snapping it on. I’ve had to snap it in and it is tight, even for me. I’m gonna covert his to a speed flex chin strap. He doesn’t start anyway. 😂

It could be possible, but not really recommended since the Vicis Zero2 doesn't have the correct housing for cam-locs

Unfortunately that is one of the issues with this DIY, you could try pulling the screw out just a touch so that there's more room to tighten the cam-loc. Let us know if that helps!

Slightly, yes. However the buckle movement is more of a rotation, whereas the makeshift cam-loc movement is a bit more loose.

Maybe a tip. You can drill another small screw hole and have the screw under the cam lock an put the t nut an screw you took off right under the ratchet box. You could also do the same above the box and boom it won't move two screw head will stop an all you need is tiny holes just to have "stoppers" so it dosnt move anymore. Note. That it will void your warranty if your helmet. But it would work.

Could work, for sure. However it would void the warranty, and the game officials might not be too happy with a modified helmet. But, if you figure out a good way to make it work, let us know!
