Former NFL QB and MVP Cam Newton recently said on his podcast '4th & 1 with Cam Newton' that Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, Jared Goff and Tua Tagovailoa are "game managers, not difference makers." Skip Bayless, Richard Sherman and Keyshawn Johnson debate whether Cam's comments are accurate or not.

Y’all will suck Mahomes up constantly when he had an all star group but now that he has no one, he’s not that elite, hmmmm interesting. Is it so wrong to allow people wait until they see a full season out of him before saying he's elite? He was drafted low because he didn't have the college resume like a lot of top picked QBs, then he's put into a Shanahan Offense with the best offensive weapons in the league. People just want to see more before they can say it's all him. Nobody is saying he's bad, they just need him to do it for longer. This is the first time Kyle Shanahan has had a top 15 QB on the Niners, of course they are going to look great. Not unreasonable to wait before crowning him.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't purdy play on a fairly successful Iowa State team? Last I checked that was a Big 12 school not a small school. Though his draft placement might make a difference the take on where he played ball is way off base. He has been shown this season in 3 consecutive games to be Mr Irrelevant without his key pieces. Without Deebo, Aiyuk, and CMC (Kittle outside of his numbers this year) purdy is a top 10 qb but not an MVP front runner.

Sherm's completely right. Everyone who is discrediting Purdy and Dak want to ignore stats, tape, and even the opinions of teammates. Montana got 4 rings, Brady got 7 rings, Peyton and Eli have 3 between them, Mahomes got 2 rings. All of these greats have had an excellent cast around them, coaching staff included, so they could win their rings. For some reason these last few years, its suddenly illegal for a QB to have great weapons in order to get the MVP title.

And a lot of people have discredited Mahomes up until recently for the same reasons. It took a super bowl win and MVP without Tyreek or any other other big names on the entire offense besides Travis to give him true credit and elite status. That’s with making insane plays and proving how much raw talent he has. Even this year people are again discrediting him for his receivers drops despite still pulling out wins. Purdy is winning but outside of numbers his performances simply are not game changing. And that’s fine, because the W is all that really matters. But that’s why without even a full season people are hesitant to crown him as a game changer

49ers have 3 receivers in the top 20 yards per reception. Aiyuk is #1, Debbo is #5 and Kittle is #19. A big reason for this is Purdy hits them in stride with great ball placement. Like Trent Williams, my top argument for Purdy not being a game manger is film: 1. He is precise through his progressions 2. He has excellent footwork, throwing mechanics, and a fast release 3. He is comfortable throwing while under pressure 4. He’s mobile enough to extend plays for passing or rushing 5. He can read defenses pre and post snap at an elite level 6. He is poised no matter the situation 7. He has pin point accuracy to maximize yac for his receivers 8. His riskiest throws don’t put his receivers in danger None of the 49ers qbs since Steve Young posses all of these qualities.

@@LoverboyB_Pookie From that logic pretty much every great QB is a game manager then, because from Joe Montana to Tom Brady to Kurt Warner to Troy Aikman, they all had amazing surrounding cast. Purdy is putting up top of the league numbers with almost 100 fewer passing attempts then the closest QBs to him this year. His OLine is subpar, outside of Trent Williams, yet he leads the league in almost every QB statistic. He also isn't just dinking and dunking passes, he is throwing bombs, which is why leads the league in almost every deep passing category. People just seem to dislike Purdy because he doesn't fit into their idea of a QB, due to where he was drafted. It is an irrational prejudice, not based on facts or the game tape, just as Sherm was saying.
