The Z28 is the bad girl you don’t take home to your parents. It’s not really an appropriate car to show up to a business meeting. And like driving a rolls royce it’s like giving people the proverbial middle finger all the time. It quietly whispers, my car is so much more badass than yours is hilarious.
In case you aren’t familiar, the Z/28 is no ordinary Camaro. It sports carbon ceramic brakes, the LS7 from the previous gen Corvete Z06 and the widest front tires of any production car. The price? An almost crazy $76,755.
So why would you spend this much money on a Camaro. Especially considering air conditioning and audio is an optional $1200 package? Because it is a raw, track focused Boss 302 destroying beast.
Let’s talk stats. The Z28 lapped Laguna Seca faster than the 700Hp Ferrari f12. That’s essentially all you need to know, but in case you are still interested it also features a monsterous 7 liter v8. 505hp and 481lb ft of torque get sent to the rear 305 section tires. The fronts are 305s too...what?
0-60 takes 4 seconds. Instead of a fancy double clutch system we’ve got a good old fashioned tremec 6 speed manual transmission. And it is glorious. Shifts are silky smooth. There’s just something special about rear wheel drive, big power and a proper manual.
Grip, this car grips the road like a vice with its pireli trofeo r’s. Its breathtaking. You can throw this car into a turn with stupid velocity and end up alive on the otherside. I imagine in the rain though it’s scarier than the way the nissan juke looks.
The stopping power provided by the 14inch carbon ceramic brembos is astronomical. In fact you should argue to your wife that the reason you really need the Z28 and not the base v6 is because the ceramics are a necessary safety feature. And it’s true, in an emergency the brakes will slow you down faster than you need, and on the track, well i’m sure its magical.
During track developement the tires were providing so much grip and the brembos were braking so hard that the tires were actually spinning 360* around the rim. his forced Chevy to develope a solution called media blasting which more securely fused the tire and rim together. What an insane problem to have.
Most importantly the car is incredibly fun to drive. It’s raw and visceral and feels very connected to the road. You are engaged in the driving experience and that's what really matters with a car like this. The Z28 isn’t all hype, the lap times speak for themselves but that v8 shouts even louder. Drive me harder!!
The exhaust note is unmistakably corvette. Its mean, its american and it's loud. Sound is a huge part of the muscle car equation and this was a job well done by chevy. Listen to this baby roar.
The Z28 handles like a dream, the interior isn’t a piece of crap, it stops on a dime and it sounds like two bears fighting. It’s f*cking awesome!
Special thanks to Lafontaine chevy in dexter michigan. $76,755.

Just wait until the 6th generation ZL1/Z28 appear. The ZL1 will have the LT4 "charged" pushing about 650 HP. And the Z28? Need I say anymore?

@caseythefalcon81 9 жыл бұрын
More than likely an LTA instead of the LT4.. Smaller blower than the LT4 just like the ZL1 is compared to the ZR1. Just wait for the next ZR1 comes out. Probably gonna be making 700+ horsepower/tq

Great car. The thing I love the most about that car is that it's got a large naturally aspirated V8 like a classic American muscle car, just not carbureted. Unlike a lot of people, I'd actually be happy if it was carbureted. A carbureted big block 427. But, the fuel injected small block 427 LS7 is still a nice engine.

Fcking love this car. American manufacturers are on the mark right now for best enthusiast cars, the Z28/hellcat/gt500/gt350/Ctsv/Zl1/Boss302 the offerings right now are great. However for the money it makes more sense to get a Z06 for a little more that packs 100 more hp/weighs less/has the same brakes. Still a badass car, I would have one if I could afford it lol

PS: As an European (Portugal) it was amazing to see that stick in the middle of the car,to me an american muscle car with a manual transmission is just a good dream from which you don't want to wake up. I bet why Chevy didn't eliminate the rear seats and put a roll cage in is for insurance purposes having a "4" seat car isn't considered racing style like the corvette or jaguar f-type in insurance stand point. Thus making the insurance cheaper for the car owner because it's considered a regular camaro.

If I had 75k I'd get a C6 Corvette Z06 for 45k or ZR1 for 65k. There's no need for added weight of the Camaro and its limited visibility. But it may be a collectible.

justin bouche Regardless of its stats, at the end of the day it's a camaro. Most normal drivers wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and the v6, which you see every old lady driving. Oh and the interior is terrible.
@joshdavis7311
@joshdavis7311 9 жыл бұрын
justin bouche And the GTR is still a tighter vehicle. Better build quality. My neighbor (more like down the road) owns one, and after seeing it, and experiencing it a small bit; the car is quite a beast.
@joshdavis7311
@joshdavis7311 9 жыл бұрын
justin bouche Have not been the F-Type, and C7, and Viper (feel so left out), but I have been that GTR, and enjoyed the hell out of the ride. It's probably the nicest car I have been in so far. If a 370z is closely to the GTR then that must be a nice interior. Now I drive a Volvo, and the interior is quite nice with the seats being the best I have sat in lol. I would like to own a Viper next because that was the choice poster on my child wall lol.
@joshdavis7311
@joshdavis7311 9 жыл бұрын
I know most people wouldn't choose a Viper which is why I would. Its a car that you see once a year or two, and when you see it; you know it is a rare vehicle. Maybe not other places, but were I live; I haven't seen one for two year now. I would probably go with 03+ coupe and upgrade the exhaust to tone down that heat problem they have in the cabin.

Z28 cuz gt350 sounds like crap compared to gt350 r I mean I'm not the Chevy funboy I like both ford and chevy, but really the new 350r isn't worth it. Older mustangs of 2013-2014 were way better then the new mustangs.

+Artiom Abreu The GT350 and GT350R share the same engine and exhaust so the exhaust note isn't any different between the two. EDIT: So apparently, the GT350R has the resonators removed so the exhaust note is deeper, louder and more guttural than the GT350. The more you know.

Well considering you can get one of these for 45k and you can't touch a 350 base for less than close to 60k, and unless you've got over 110k you're not touching an R, i started considering one a couple weeks ago but have given up on the idea of getting one, the price of the z28 is realistic, the 350 and 350R are priced to a point where they don't seem worth it.

tommy gunn Well as far as objective reasons there's just one good reason to get this over a GT-R, and that's because it'll post quicker laptimes, unless you pony up for the Nismo. They also only made a small number of Z/28s so there's the collector thing. I prefer the way the Camaro looks, and vastly prefer the way it sounds, but those are subjective.

I'd understand why you'd get a muscle car if it was cheaper than the competition but cmon...$76,000? The C63 AMG is more than $10,000 cheaper, it's 0-100 is also 4.0 seconds and you get a properly luxurious interior. Muscle is OK but when it's priced beyond European super-sedans, I'd much rather get the latter.

Sorry to be honest but the driver is pretty much a complete tools. You should know your stuff a bit more bud...carbon ceramics actually don't stop the car at any shorter distances but only allows high use of the brakes with no fade or soft pedal. Anyways the childish remarks made me feel like I was watching a Z28 infomercial
