This review, the pt cruiser car review and the duramax review where you talk about formalism have got to be my favorite episode. I love this channel.
@marcusdamberger Жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about that episode the other day and how Mr. Regular schools us in various subjects like literature. Oddly enough I now own a PT Cruiser (I didn't when that episode came out), everything he says is so true. I inherited it from a boomer who passed away, who was the second owner, the car had just over 100k on the clock, way under what a 20 year old car should have of that era, 2001 base model with 5 speed. Got it extremely cheap from work collogue who offered it (it was a 4th car to him, from his passed away sister in law) after my 23 year old Honda Accord finally died at 266k. The gear box will never let it down. the engine has now had three water pumps over its life, I had to put in the 3rd one last year.. Took the opportunity to do the timing belt and all the engine mounts because it's so buried, you have to remove those and part of the A/C lines to get to it.. I've driven a HHR regularly in the past, the GM equivalent of the PT Cruiser. Another example of GM trying to catch up because another player in the industry came up with something new that people want, just like the Mustang vs Camaro of the 60's that Mr. Regular points out in this episode! The PT Cruiser handles way way better, it's more car like in it's handling, the HHR is wallowy and shuttery. Has way less power to the wheels, you have to really step into it to move.. The PT Cruiser probably gets an advantage because of the of the 5 speed, but i can't imagine it's a huge advantage. The PT Cruiser 2.4 engine puts out 150hp, while the HHR I drove was a 2.2 also putting out 150hp. So the GM automatic transmission must have been a factor. I suspect the GM 2.4 Ecotec with 170hp improves the HHR significantly. I've never driven a automatic PT Cruiser with the 2.4, I bet it's a lot more anemic. Though I would love to try the 2.4Turbo (180hp) or 2.4L Turbo High Output at 230hp.

Keep thinking how a 400 pony car from today might feel (have never been in a newer mustang). The cleveland in my 68 mustang feels more like the camaro... power at the bottom end. Amazingly the camaro rides very nice. No squeaks or anything, Fun cars!

You've managed to completely capture the essence of The Camaro driver. I specifically mean "The Camaro", because that's how my friend referred to his. We couldn't take "his car", or "his Camaro", or even "the Camaro". It was "The Camaro".

You hit the nail on the head about artistic expression in vehicles. It’s a thing of the past. Everything is either very predictable or borrowing from past trends. You can see this with music too. And movies. Remakes upon remakes upon remakes upon comic book movies etc etc. The mainstream as a whole has become stagnant in regards to artistic expression. You really have to look to the obscure or unknown to find anything interesting anymore. I really agree with the early 2000s as being the last time car companies brought crazy ideas to the table. If you look at the timeline, it’s right as the internet became mainstream and everyone’s opinions on what was cool was so easily accessible, and they could plan out a design they know would work. Everything is styled the same and follows the same trends for a long time now because that’s what sells. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the styling of the new age muscle cars borrowing trends from their ancestors, but it just lacks any sort of imagination. It’s just remake upon remake upon remake upon… ooo that one has apple car play. 💰

"As long as I can cut traction control and do burn-outs ... life is alright!" He ain't wrong there - You yanks are so lucky there. I live in a country where the cheapest V8 car I can own is around $20,000 and a boat load in insurance and where everything is expensive in general, so I cant have that luxury even with a good salary :(

Even here insurance is crazy on most V8 cars, especially Camaros. You'd have to get a pretty old one for it to be affordable.

If you can get past the fact any engine work is hours worth of labor and the 10 bolt being made of glass you can have one of the best budget muscle cars, skip the 2v and 4v 4.6 and get and LT/LS1 car and go have fun

I averaged 29 mpg over a 280 mile trip in my '96 Z28 (6 speed). Is the LS1 a better engine? Yes. Is the LT1 underappreciated? Also yes. Did the '93-'97 front look better than the catfish? Again, yes. For the record, though Camaros (somewhat rightfully) have a bad rep, a few years ago I had a brand new SS as a rental for a week. During an unseasonable ice storm. And I can say that this RWD 450HP car did excellent. Once the storm cleared up and I could put my foot down, I was further impressed. It's nothing less than a budget supercar, though the build quality could have been better in spots. The HUD was nice too. Got admiring looks from both sexes driving it. Not sure if I'm ready to buy one, but kudos to GM for making a car that has excellent suspension and throttle tuning, is comfortable, and felt totally stable driving through a world of shit for a few days.

I drove my 93 Z28 in an ice storm to my grandparents for thanksgiving dinner. 35 miles each way. The car handled it just fine. The tires? Cooper Cobra GTs. Nothing special. I think I was one of the only people on the road. In 15 years the only time I’ve ever gotten stuck in it was when my driveway flooded a little and over night it froze over. My car was buried up to it’s hubs in ice. It wasn’t going anywhere.

@@KrikZ32 With active damping, a well-tuned V8 with a very nicely calibrated throttle, great handling, and great brake feel, I feel "budget supercar" is on target. Look at some of the "versus" track tests of this vehicle and what some pro drivers have said about it. No, it's not a McLaren or Lambo.

The 2001 Camaro was identical to the 1993 Camaro except the 1993 model’s headlights weren’t catfish and the whole car looked better. No one in 2001 thought the Camaro was futuristic or aerodynamic. That’s why it failed. GM took the pooch and violently screwed it. The final generation of the Firebird? Gorgeous. This Camaro killed both cars. … and I’m so old, I remember it. When I first saw this Camaro, I honestly thought its redneck owner “modded” it to look this bad (I lived in the South at the time and you wouldn’t believe the raunchy garbage people do their cars down there). This Camaro ended the Camaro because it took a dated 1990s car design and somehow made it WORSE.
