To Answer the question: Which camera are you using…? GH5 and soon to be GH5II, probably the most robust video feature cameras available, not to mention affordable. GH4/5/5II/5S all have Anamorphic modes and can shoot 4:3. The kicker is the the GH5/II can also shoot in 6K 10bit 200mbps 4.2.0 since 2017…
@CamberFilmSchool3 жыл бұрын
200 Mbps doesn’t seem like it would be a very sufficient bitrate for good 6K quality considering the 4K on the R5 can get up to @ 1880 Mbps.
@Superz3ro3 жыл бұрын
@@CamberFilmSchool Honestly, it’s not a feature they really highlight. But it is available. I am hoping the GH5II improves on that, or at the least capable of firmware updates that can improve on that. When I bought the GH5, and paired it with an Atomos Ninja V, it had all the features that seems to tick all the boxes for a Netflix compliant production cinema camera at the least amount of cost. Under two thousand dollars 😮, unfreakin’ real… Also, I love that the GH5 allows you to shoot using shutter angle. Just makes things a bit easier… …

Shutter angle options would be nice in more cameras.

This video is excellent. One question: Can I create another sequence with 1440 width, another with 1980 and combine the two into one sequence? Or it is advisable to use the aspect ratio PNG's that you mention. Greetings and thanks for the video!
@CamberFilmSchool7 ай бұрын
You would have to set the aspect ratio to one of those because you can’t actually change the aspect ratio of the video. I would set the project at 1980 since it’s bigger so it’ll fill up the whole screen and then use overlays for the parts that are 1440.

You don't need to divide the vertical pixel count first. Just take the vert and multiply it by 4/3. If you're on chrome you can test this in your search bar right now. 1080*4/3 = 1440. Works the same for other aspect ratios like 5:3 and 16:10, too. The only time you have to change it is when going to a wider crop on a 16:9 sensor IE 2:1. Then you divide 1920 by the new, wider aspect ratio. IE 1920/21*9 = 822.86. In this case, I'd rather use 24:10, which would be 800, so 1920x800. Then again, I don't really like the wide "cinemascope" ratio anyway, so I wouldn't use that, I'd stick with 2:1 or narrower.

I have a canon rebel T2i that doesn’t let you change the aspect ratio. Any ideas on how I can still do 4:3 format. I seen that you use tape but how would I know or measure where to put the tape on the screen? 1:48
@CamberFilmSchool Жыл бұрын
There are very few cameras that actually let you change the aspect ratio in camera. It’s just an overlay to help with framing and you set whatever aspect ratio you want in editing. 4:3 is slightly wider than a square so you just have to estimate with the tape.

Just set your timeline to a 4:3 aspect ratio of 2880x2160 and you won’t lose any quality by stretching the footage as compared to 3840x2880
@kikut765 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the tutorial. I wanted to fiddle with the aspect ratio a bit, but I'm doing something wrong. I shot the material in 4096x2160 and 3840x2160. I want to set the resolution to 3840x1634 to eliminate stripes on the screen without zoom like in your video, but something wrong is happening. I work at Davinci. I set the resolution and then fit the image by zooming in. Everything is fine in the program, the original file opens on the computer too. After adding a video to KZbin, a strip of glazed pixels appears at the bottom of the screen, next to the black bar. I thought it was a damaged camera, but the files from the other camera also have the same problem. If I don't change the aspect ratio and don't fit it to the screen, the black bars are fine, but they are visible in minimal window. Do you know what the problem is? Strange situation.
@CamberFilmSchool Жыл бұрын
I looked at the video you sent to me in the email and I’m not sure what you’re seeing. What exactly do you mean by “glazed” pixels? And as far as your exporting process, can you outline exactly what you’re doing? Edit in davinci, and then changing aspect ratio in a converter before uploading to KZbin?

For "Camber" or others IN THE KNOW, a 'style' question, you might say: 1.33: 1 equals / same as 4x3; 1.33: 1 equals / same as 4:3. So, THOSE IN THE KNOW, is the 'same as' 4x3 OR 4:3 ? Most of us have seen it written / typed both ways and 'the world hasn't come to an end' (ha), BUT what is the joyful, amazing, WONDERFUL WORLD of image capture's / presentation's (still and cinematic) choice? 'My two cents'? -- 4x3.

I’ve never seen KZbin stretch footage from any aspect ratio. Sounds like an issue with export settings of your video. Is your timeline actually set to a 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9? And the only time “black bars” are added is based on the type of screen you’re watching. If your device isn’t 4:3 then there will be black bars.

You have to actually export your video in the 4:3 format rather than 16:9 with the black bars on it. If it's actually in 16:9 with black bars then there will always be black bars on the side when watching on KZbin (or any other program). @CamberFilmSchool5 ай бұрын
When you set up a project with 4:3 dimensions the aspect ratio is changed from 16:9 when you insert your footage and size it properly. No black bars are actually added when watching it on a 16:9 screen or larger. The sides are just black because the image doesn’t fill the full horizontal portion of the screen. Whether you crop the sides off when resizing in a 4:3 project or add black bars to a 16:9 aspect project, you’ll still be losing the same amount of the image on the sides.
