This adventure takes us deep into the ancient Khmer empire, more precisely the Kingdom of Cambodia - a land intensely rich in culture, heritage and tradition, with the most amazing scenic landscapes and some of the friendliest, kindest, most honest people i have ever encountered during my travels around the world.
▶️ Here below is the sneak peek of this episode:
After a brief intro, we will start our Cambodia exploration by visiting the heart of the ancient Khmer Empire : The complexes of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom in Siem Reap. Angkor once was the biggest urbanisation in the entire world , when the Khmer Emire was at its peak, and comprised of an area including today's Thailand, Laos, parts of Vietnam and the Malaysian Peninsula. As back then palaces and peasant housing where all built of wood, all that remains of this ancient mega-metropolis today are the ruins and remains of the places of worship , as temples where built out of stone , as they where built for god and where intended to last for eternity. As we explore the Angkor complex, we will see so much impressive structures, some excavated and renovated - some still deep in the jungle and overgrown by brush and trees. I felt a little bit like Indiana Jones when exploring certain parts of Angkor, and i truly felt some very deep spiritual vibe and energy here.
Next, we will head out into the rural countryside's of Cambodia , to see how the people live and work. Tourism is not a big part of the GDP in this country, as farming , agriculture and fisheries are the main sources of income. As we travel through unspoild landscapes we will discover the immense diversity of Cambodia's landscape; from lush green rice paddies, to flood lands, rives, floating villages, mountains and epic beaches and coastlines. We will visit some markets, meet some locals and travel by motorbike and motor-rickshaws and encounter plenty of friendly people and bright smiles.
If you are traveling to Cambodia soon, and want some tips, contacts or advise, please feel free to reach out to me in the comments or via DM on my social media

Its weird how the media influences out perceptions. Before watching your vlog, to me Cambodia was a war torn country, infested my landmines, poverty and despair. Thanks a lot for opening my eyes. What a fantastic destination .

yes, that is so true - history does get lost even in its country of origin if its not upheld ... the whole world has lost so much rich history of lost civilisations of 100's of years ago, and prior to recorded history - which we all ignore today

Angkor is TOP of my bucket list now, what an amazing place. Is it really that secluded, or does it get overrun by crowds like the Pyramides in Cairo? Any tips of when to go, and what to see in Angkor and Siem Reap?
@krizharriz
@krizharriz Жыл бұрын
The main spot get crowded yes, but the complex is huuuge, there are over 1000 temples , so a lot of them are really quite and u can be all alone there and really explore without the crowds

Good idea to get at least the three day pass for Angkor Wat Archeological Park. It’s at least the size of Manhattan Island altogether. And there are other ancient ruins in both Cambodia and Thailand. Angkor Wat and other ruins are still considered sacred. So please try to learn how to be respectful when you are there. Especially in temples and when meeting monks. There is information online and here on KZbin. Have safe flights and happy travels. 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🌴 ✈️

Thanks Robert! Yes indeed, 3 day angor pass for sure , and yes these are religious sites, so dress and behave appropriately . As visitors we should never intrude but always be respectful of the cultures and customs of the places we visit.

Thanks for the video. Canada is my home country. I spent four months in northern Thailand in 2013. And then in 2017 I spent two months in Cambodia. Most of it in Siem Reap….went to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom and other ruins of course. Spent a lot of time at Buddhist temples. Also explored much of the countryside all around Siem Reap. After two months, I took the Giant Ibis bus cross country to Poipet, and then on to Bangkok, where I spent some days exploring and visiting the famous temples. Amazing parts of the world. Yes the people are friendly. But there are also scams. And I would not be wearing visible gold jewelry. Just a suggestion. I’ll be back in that part of the world again soon. Getting old. Have to return to that part of the world before I die. After getting a toe infection in the tropics, two doctors experienced in the tropics told me, …..no socks and shoes. Buy good sandals with heal straps and proper arch support, and go bare foot in the sandals. And at least one good shower a day. Namo Buddhaya 🙏🏼 ☸️ 🌴

Hello fellow North-American :-) Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment. Im from Cali, but my work in film & tv has me jet setting around the for a good part of my time , and the rest i also tend to spend in or around Asia or Africa - rather than home in LA. Yes there are scams , sure they are everywhere - but compared to Thailand or Vietnam, Cambodia is a lot more innocent and genuine. I lived in Asia for over 15 years before moving back to the US - i know the region well, way before i started this channel. Feel free to check out my other destination videos or the Q&A where i answer a lot of questions about my motivation and more. Hope you will be ok and able to follow your call to head back out soon.

Dude, thanks for the video. Most people don’t know the rich culture, the great Khmer Empire. Unfortunately, due to the religious revolution from Hinduism to Buddhism that marked the fall of the Empire, bloodshed amongst brothers, divided leaderships and land. Khmer Rouge wiped out 95% of intellectuals from doctors, lawyers, teachers, archaeologists you name it, almost completely vanished. How can one compare this unfortunate country to the neighboring countries. The dark histories of Cambodia continued after the fall of the civilization until this present. The current corruption leader doesn’t help Cambodia neither. Neighboring countries continue to bully Cambodia because of weak leadership. It is nice of you to dig into the history for others.

OMG, really, the Khmer empire was that big? Like wow, it was all over what is Thailand, Lao and Malaysia today. How come no one ever taught me this part of history in school?

Very insightful , Thanks for sharing this great part of history. I will definitely visit Cambodia again, and spend more time there and learn more about the history and culture, and of course make another video to show the world how amazing and culturally rich your country is

Dude I always wanted to visit Angkor 🤗... you beat me to it. I've seen Machu Pichu, seen the Pyramids , seen the Great Wall , Angkor is definitely next. But as you said correctly , there is a lot more the Cambo 🇰🇭 than just Angkor

Dude Angkor is a must see, no doubt. You will need like 2 or 3 days - so buy the 3 days Angkor Pass if ya go. But yeah there is so much more to se and do in Siem Reap but also Cambodia overall. I will drop a part 2 video and show all the jungle experiences and the islands beaches and more
