It looks like you two made some great choices. Especially the fish in the "Underground fortress of eggs." Great description.

My kind Cambodian friends introduced me to their authentic Cambodian foods. They are so yummy and one of my top favorite foods in the world! 😊 Most of those ones you ordered are not authentically or traditionally Cambodian. Maybe they just wanted you to try something familiar or comfortable for you to eat? Cambodian foods are underrated though so I am glad that more and more people are aware of it. The Khmer/Cambodian empire ruled most of South East Asia for centuries before the neighbors arrived from China. So the Khmers heavily influenced the neighboring countries, especially Thailand. Well, most Thais stole much from Cambodia even to the present day since the Thai Chinese Pirates fled southern China. They never acknowledge their true origins and they always claim that Cambodia is copying them and claiming things belonging to them when true historical facts show the total opposite. Most of them are still behaving like Pirate thieves currently, always constantly attacking Cambodians with lies, false accusations, and harassments. It is so immoral, disgusting, and unacceptable. My friends have experienced it themselves unfortunately. Anyway, here are my suggestions for more authentic traditional Cambodian foods: Their Lemongrass Seasoning Paste Chicken Sauté, Beef Skewers, Cambodian Sausages, Cambodian Papaya Salad, Cambodian Beef Papaya Salad Sandwich, Ginger Chicken, Lemongrass Paste Beef/Chicken soup, Fish Gravy with Veggies, Amok Fish/Chicken/Shrimp in Banana Leaf, Fish Fermented Dish (Prahok Ktiss), Cambodian Curry, Cambodian Mango Shrimp Salad, Cambodian Cucumber Salads, along with their snacks and desserts like Sweet Corn Tapioca, Sesame Roll Wafers, Black Sesame Banana Fritters, Custards, Cakes, Jello, etc…. Enjoy!

Can you explain why the food they ate aren't real cambodian food? As a cambodian, those foods are what I grew up eating, albeit my parents cooked slightly differently, as they aren't running a restaurant.

Thank you for the brief but detailed history. Cambodian cuisine, just like other cuisine, it depends on who and where it’s prepared. I’ve had some home-cooked Khmer food and it’s not very appetizing but when the ingredients are fresh and a good chef prepares it, it can be amazing. I really like the rice noodles with all the fresh exotic vegetables such as lotus roots and bananas flowers.

To be precise the first dish Phnom Penh noodle is Chinese dish invented by Chinese immigrants in Phnom Penh. Cambodia is a country strongly influenced by Indian culture so using chopstick for eating is Chinese..The second dish is Vietnamese dish called Bo Luc Lac and I don't know the third one. Would you agree with my statement of the first two dishes?

I dunno dude, that "pork cake" as you put it. I think that's a slice of testicle. They have a very soft tender spongey feel when they are sliced thin. Bull oysters taste mildly like liver. That's what it looked like to me at least

Hello, Cambodian here, yes it's a pork patty. And as someone who had both this pork patty and goat testicles, there's a difference in taste and texture. Visually, yes.
