Hello once again my friends - and a super walk around these colleges - they were free open days ??? The hard working porters spend so much time telling people to ' Get off the Grass " oh yes !! You also - to my absolute delight chose colleges that I am unfamiliar with - apart from Pembroke, where I would meet up with a fellow colleague during my Cambridge visits. So long ago - sigh. The gardens are delightful, and as with Oxford, the college garden staff are in stiff - and serious competition to create the most beautiful and stunning displays :) Thanks ever so much - up to your usual high standard, and greatly enjoyed !!!!

Good morning to you Mr T, good to hear from you as always. We did have you in mind when we did this walk, so we're pleased you enjoyed it. Yes, they were free the day we went and that's often the case I believe. Ha ha, the porters weren't working so hard that day and didn't tell us to ' Get off the Grass " !! I can picture you at Pembroke meeting up with a fellow colleague during Cambridge visits, a classic picture that evokes. We do agree that the gardens are delightful, we'd love to film the Oxford ones soon and see those stunning displays. Thanks for staying in touch, we do value it.

@@LivingWalks Hello, and you are always so kind in responding - I do appreciated it !!! Yes, the whole ' grass ' thing is one remaining carry over from the more austere days when only college ' Fellows ' were allowed to walk across hallowed turf. These days quite a few colleges - in Oxford at least are providing grassed area`s for all to relax on and enjoy, both college personnel and visitors alike, but there are nevertheless sound reasons for maintaining some trample free swaths of grass, especially during the dry summer months, and maximum tourist numbers. As for Oxford, of course, for me, any future plan you may have for a future visit thrills me with delight and anticipation. The gardens of Merton College were always beautiful ( well, I would say that ) but almost all colleges have created exceptionally attractive green spaces - even a lake or two :) So, thank you once again - I always look forward to your walks - super :)

Morning Mr T, well we always look forward to your messages, they inform and delight us in equal measures. Well, well I didn't know that only college ' Fellows ' were allowed to walk across hallowed turf! And how progressive that quite a few colleges in Oxford are providing grassed areas for both college personnel and visitors. Quite agree though that there are sound reasons for maintaining some trample free grass in the summer, can't have the college grounds looking like a hayfield! On our next trip to Oxford we'll hope to capture the gardens of Merton College for you, it'll be our pleasure!

@@LivingWalks Thank you, my friends, you are always so kind and considerate towards me - I greatly appreciate it more than these mere words can project :) Alas, as your Winter is approaching, the gardens may begin to fade, but I imagine there would still be some stunning Autumn colour around. Should you indeed make it to Oxford ( and I most assuredly hope you do ) the gardens at Worcester College would make for a splendid walk, - they include one of the lakes I mentioned previously, ducks, moorhens, coots and even some beautiful swans :) Yes, I believe the college porters were especially overworked during the tourist boom pre covid, with so many people taking selfies on the grass - they tend to be a very dedicated crew, and quite accustomed to dealing with difficult individuals, students or tourists -ha ha !!!!!! Many Oxford colleges do still maintain ' Fellows ' only garden areas - and why not, all part of the history - these things are important, or so I believe :) Thank you Mike and Yvie - I am going to watch this video again - really, very well done.

Hello @@MrTorleon, well it's always a great pleasure for us to receive such a genuine message, we value it and it makes the channel worth running to know it means something by bringing places that mean a lot back to people. There's still some stunning Autumn colour around here in Essex, as it's been so incredibly mild. I know we'll make it back to Oxford at some point and the gardens at Worcester College sound wonderful. Yes, I can quite see why many Oxford colleges do still maintain ' Fellows ' only garden areas, I'm sure it'd soon be a mushy field if not. Hope to stay in contact friend and bring you many more when we can.
