Meaning even if ethnic minorities are more likely to be rejected, any given rejectee is most likely to be white.

It's a classic 1930s building - kind of classical meets modernist. Yes, it might look more befitting of somewhere in America - but so does the Senate House in Cambridge. It's a Cambridge feature to be innovative. There are also fine examples of 1960s buildings in Cambridge which feels so much more alive as a result. Cambridge still looks stunning in a fairytale sense along The Backs. It does all fit together. It's not some cheap takeaway that's been knocked up.

My impression of visiting Cambridge is that it's like the Disneyland version of Oxford. Now, I love Disneyland and Cambridge is very pretty indeed, prettier than Oxford on the surface, but I don't mean this as a compliment in this context. There is a hollowness to Cambridge. It is like a Pepper's Ghost trick of something probably going on at Oxford. It is flat and the people and weather can be kind of icy. It is not somewhere that I would feel 'looked after'. Cambridge, being situated in more of a cultural vacuum than Oxford in terms of the counties that surround it, has, in a way, regrettably easily absorbed much of that anonymous 'I don't care about you' London energy. It is a bit bizarre that an equal of Oxford ever found sufficient footing there. I look at the front of King's College Cambridge and it's just an ornate facade. I might as well be looking at Brighton Pavillion. Today, apart from Silicon Fen, which surely cropped up because of the university, Cambridge is NOT really much more than a university town (city since the 1950s). It has existed since Roman times but only became a town about a hundred years before the university was founded. But it's certainly a place that someone looking for something nice to eat and drink could drop in to. If you are a tourist, absolutely visit Christ Church (College) Oxford, the Radcliffe Camera Oxford, King's College, Cambridge, any other colleges you can get in, and the museums at each. Punt along The Backs at Cambridge. Punting at Oxford isn't as necessary as its best sights can't be seen along the river. Enjoy some nice food and drink at each. Then go back to the real world and remember that students at these colleges don't often enjoy the sights as much as you as they're in lectures or the library. The students, regrettably, don't all have the romance in their soul to make it any different for them to study here than at anywhere else.
