a^2 - b^2 = b - a a+b = -1 because a and b are unequal now b = a^2 - 183 hence a^2+a -182 = 0 (a+14)(a-13) = 0 if a = - 14 then b= 13 if a = 13 then b = - 14

Exactly what I did. What to do here for 14 minutes???????? NB to be complete you have missed one step. After a^2-b^2=b-a it is good to say => (a-b)(a+b)=-(a-b) => a+b=-1

Since the initial equations are unchanged by exchanging a and b it is hardly surprising the two roots for your final quadratic are the solution pair.

If a is not equal to b, then a+b=-1. Then its,easy 7:55 to resolve a square equation.

a^2=b+183 b^2=a+183 (a,b)=(13,-14) or (a,b)=(-14,13)

a^2-b^2 =b-a => (a-b)(a+b) =-(a-b) => a+b=-1 => b = -a-1 a^2 - b - 183 =0 => a^2 + a - 182 =0 a = ( -1 (+/- ) 27 )/2 = { -14, 13 } b = -a -1 = { 13, -14 }
