In this Friday Sermon, Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad warns us that materialism and desire for reputation only leads to anxiety and distracts us from reality, whilst reminding us that criticism, no matter the form, should not make us forget our duty as Muslims.

Jummah is wherever believers gather to worship our creator and every gathering is blessed. It is not proper to denigrate any gathering of believers. May allah bless and accept all our communities.

@@Azeem259 Brother, of course we partake in the congregation and if it was belittled, then we wouldn't go. The essence of the Jumuah is the khutbah. Muslims from every part of the city attend and even the villager is encouraged to come to town to hear the weekly sermon. It's supposed to be a time to connect the community so we all travel as one body. It sets goals, aims and gives us reminders. Brings us back to Allah. Unfortunately I am not Arabic proficient, so it is difficult for me to take something when I attend. The Shaykh words fill the void.

I looked at the people With a critical eye And found fault in everyone I looked at myself With a critical eye And found goodness in everyone I gazed longingly At blessings the people possessed And became unhappy I began to gaze at the blessings I possessed And became forever grateful I waited for people to greet me And became haughty I greeted the people first And became humble I expected people to forgive me And became arrogant I began to forgive people And became compassionate I thought others blameworthy And my ego inflated I believed myself blameworthy And my conscious responded I watched those who strived for the world And became complacent I watched those who sacrificed for deen And became productive I looked towards the worldly folk to emulate And lost myself I looked towards the Godfearing people And found myself I looked for a middle road in life And found it in Islam I searched for the ideal Human being And found my beloved Rasoollullah ﷺ I searched everywhere for Peace And found it In the Remembrance of Allah

When you criticise a picture Created by an artist You in fact criticise the abilities of the producer And not the picture But when you see people who's features or stature Does not to appeal to 'your' gaze And you feel a desire to criticise Remain silent Pause and reflect Then say Masha-Allah Lest you jest for fun And break the heart Shaking the celestial 'Throne' Falling from the esteem of Allah For Allah has created the beautiful features and stature Of every human being, carefully with love And the countenance with his own hands The artist would benefit with genuine criticism And you may find fault in his work If you have the expertise in his field But your Lord needs not your judgement about his creation For indeed you are unawares Of his vast wisdom and reason Take Heed! For if you find flaw in the appearance of someone You actually criticise Allah The creator and Master of the Universe Free from all blemish and defect The Lord of the Worlds So be careful and kind And Adorn and raise 'yourself' With the beauty and excellence of good manners

Most helpful. I’m wondering how to handle someone who, well-meaning or not, criticizes constantly and who when I attempt to talk on the matter says you’re stubborn or protecting them. One who replaces Salam with why can’t you..? Why did you..? What’s wrong with your..? And who very rarely has a kind word for those nearest but easily does for those distant. Patience wears thin and exhausted. Thank you.

Peace Friends, I have some feedback. Please bear with it as patiently as you can. Perhaps this Khutbah about the dangers of name and form (signposts) over essence (heeding them), could resonate more strongly in a mosque that was not so richly beautiful, being built instead locally with whatever was available locally (materials and people). I mean Islam is wonderful in how it does not deny name and form its place, but classically the way essence was so grounded was by emphasising local ways and means. Green and eco-aware notwithstanding, CCM costing so much and being funded by mostly overseas means inevitably means abstraction from the local, especially in how beautiful and designed to be "indigenous" the place is, will be the result. Without this emphasis on name and form over emphasis on essence, a case can be made this mosque as it is simply could not have been built. Despite all this, may the good it facilitates and the Signs it represents help us all turn sincerely back to Him. Salaam.
@Mutty5united
@Mutty5united 2 жыл бұрын
Salaam brother, good point. Name and form is a danger but as mentioned in the Khutbah it isnt something a Islam shuns altogether. Its only when it is bereft of the essence that it becomes hollow. Human beings have a natural affinity for beauty whether its visual, audible, emotional, or any other form. That beauty when combined with the islamic essence is a powerful force in the community. I can tell you that apart from the bricks and architecture a masjid is far more important for the sense of community it instils. When both the beauty and the essence is there a masjid like this will attract people from far and wide and the long term benefits to the local community and wider country easily justify the cost. If this mosque is packed with people every day because it attracts people due to the services and beauty of the volunteers / surroundings and this happens for many years then it means that countless people would have benefited from the mosque. This would be a success in the long term in comparison with a mosque that is not instilled with islamic essence or beauty and is only repelling to people. In short, visual beauty is just one element of a good mosque but shouldnt be excessive; there are many other facets a great mosque needs to have.

@@Mutty5united Peace friend, thank you for your engagement. Maximum beauty is that of which I have no objection to, but for beauty and crowd attraction that comes at the cost of grounding in authentic belonging that is of very high idolisation danger, and may not be as close to fidelity to essences as it convinces itself it is. Imagination is a great human power. I have never even been in the UK, let alone visited the CCM, so cannot make fair assessments on where it is at compared than if I was a local. May this simcere warning be of utility to the Ummah whatever is the case, by His Will. Salaam.

@@lionelchan1601 InshaAllah you can pray here one day. If you see it in real you will see that the physical beauty of the masjid is actually not the highlight and it is actually understated. @@Mutty5united Peace Friend, InshaaAllah. My perception is doubtless swayed by the tendency for what might seem like idolisation in this comments section. Authentic Ummah, which includes much understanding on a personal level the humanity of leaders and parishioners, has a resilience and ability to transmit 'Alim that cult idolisation tries to copy, but cannot. It may be that excessively positive messages are what is safest to leave on this kind of forum, leaving the nuance for the local only. The difference in feel between the local parish and the more anonymous mass (online and other) congregation. Salaam.

Please have mercy on thy creation Guide all mankind to the path to Paradise And save Humanity from the path to Hell For the sake of they most beloved Prophet ﷺ Surely if the tyrants knew the Truth They would not be oppressors Indeed it's not the eyes that do not see But the hearts that are blind O Ummah of broken hearts Keep calm!

Did you hear the swallow chirping When the wind blew it's nest away? حَسْبُنَا اللهُ Allah is enough for me Do you know what the cockerel called When the fox had attacked it's chicks? حَسْبُنَا اللهُ Allah is enough for me Can you hear the little deer gasping Running to safety from hungry lions, who in turn retorted the same? حَسْبُنَا اللهُ Allah is enough for me Do you know what the fishes murmered When they lost the way to their colony? حَسْبُنَا اللهُ Allah is enough for me So do you wonder, what the destitute of mankind The orphans of Yemen The widows of Syria and Afghanistan The brave, and valiant freedom fighters The imprisoned and homeless in Palestine The persecuted of China, Myanmar And the oppressed all over the World Look up to the heavens, and say with conviction From the depth of their Souls? حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيْل Allah is sufficient for us, and He is an excellent controller of affairs Oh Beloved do not despair Remember, the Ummah is praying for you And that Allah loves you حَسْبُنَا اللهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيْل

Surely if we pray together For Allah's guidance and blessings Give a smile and salaam Contribute to the needy The desperate and homeless You never know How the tables can turn And the West can change From an environment Of Godlessness and Vice To that of Faith Piety and Peace O Turner of hearts Ya Allah Guide us all in England And make us a source of guidance for the Ummah Worldwide

Beloved Your life Is Your sacred journey To Allah Everyone else And everything else Is a Trust from Allah And the means for You To reach Allah Either you uphold the Trust Through the guidance Of Qur'an and Sunnah And walk the straight path Safely to Allah Or You ignore the guidance And You neglect or abuse the Trust And You lose your way From the path to Allah Beloved Your life Is Your sacred journey To Allah It is about what You engage in And how You behave with people And how You react to others And Not about what people do And how they engage with You Nor how they react to You So keep one eye sternly On Your own character and behaviour Whilst continuously excusing others Until the other eye, eventualy finds The goodness in people Beloved Your life Is Your sacred journey To Allah Do not waste it

🤲 Muslim You underestimate the power of dua And you stopped talking to Allah For it seemed to you To be in vain? Nay Lose not hope in the beneficent Lord And continue repeatedly to pray For dua when accepted by Allah Does move the mountain from its place And against the oppressive negative force Dua is the powerful effective source As for the soul that has strayed To the darkness of vice and doubts A compassionate dua becomes a guide And though the system of our world Has been designed by our Lord To indeed operate by means and toil Verily without both Allah may still ordain For as it says in the Qur'an 'Whenever He intends a thing He needs only to say ''Be'' And it 'Becomes' O Muslim The moment you make dua Have complete faith and please recall That 'Nothing' is impossible for Allah Who loves the oft repeated request Of the humble repenting soul 🤲

5:00 or so: 'the planet itself appears to be dying. It's not the fault of the religions. It's not the fault of the ulema. It's the fault of materialism.' Peace Friends, Greed and seeking help in the material instead of Him, and the agitation that is underneath and exacerbated by it, does not appear in a vacuum. The lack of belonging to body, ancestry, nature, land, time, community, etc that contrasts so powerfully with archaic and primordial ways, might legitimately be laid at the feet of the abstractions various religions and many ulema encourage within humanity. To entertain this at least. We are so often fooled by the benefits of creative abstraction, and do not see the cost. Modern floating spiritualism for example, that sees our essence and soul as a disembodied thing, may simply be the twin brother of dense materialism, each empowered in their extremes by their refusal to integrate with their "opposite". Essence and form refusing to dance, and mutually maligning. Perhaps to say instead that we can certainly not blame our Revelations, of which the Qur'an is the most important for us in this age, or Allah Himself, from whom the call is to integrate rather than pillory. The flaw is within every one of us, and blessings to the ulema in their honest human striving. Alhamdulillah for this return journey back to Him. Salaam.

@@ponderingspirit Peace Friend, Allah Willed it. Lockdowns have made it clearer how traumatised and "thin" people are, and materialism (like xenophobia) is but one of many compensation mechanisms. It's fine to critique the futility of grabbing at the substitute, like against any addictive drug, but I believe it is time to move past the strategy of yanking away the security blanket, absent deep compassion for the underlying trauma. To paraphrase a famous Chinese Medicine doctor Xu Dachun, materialism may indeed be an unwelcome spirit causing much damage in its stay with us, but let us remember that it is a spirit WE called for to fill an emptiness of our own creation. To be grateful that it stopped much worse spirits coming in instead.

Be humble Humility attracts divine attention And however the appearance A humble person Is indeed A beautiful shining Soul Take heed For you came with nothing And will leave with nothing Apart from your good And bad deeds Do yourself Justice By focusing on doing good actions Then constantly repenting For none will enter Paradise Through appearance, wealth Status Or even good deeds But only By the Mercy of our Lord For every blessing of Allah That man enjoyed in this world If compared Will outweigh all good actions And indeed Astagfaar, repentance Also attracts Divine attention Beloved be humble
