Hi @@usmang5542 . I feel a pull towards this man's honest belief in what he's saying, compounded by the wisdom embedded in the stories he tells. The world would be a better place if people valued integrity, modesty and kindness instead of the flashy lies and greed.

Did... You... just refer to Muhammad Iqbal as "Allama"? The guy was a great poet, writer, and philosopher but by no means was he a great scholar/shaykh al Islam or a juristconsult/judge. He did not have any education in the Islamic Traditional sciences Honestly, i dont know why people exaggerate the achievements of early modern scholars to classical scholars who were polymaths.

These sessions have widened my horizons to the wider Islamic world. The humility, piety, God consciousness and spirituality of these individuals is very inspiring. They lived such fulfilling and full lives mashAllah in spite of adverse circumstances of those periods in history. JazakAllahu khair Sheikh and CMC again for another thought-provoking and interesting talk.

Alhamdulillah, didn’t know what to make of Elif Shafaq, particularly the book Forty Rules of Love really reminded me of the closeness of Allah Subhanallahi wa taala. I always wondered what Sheikh AHM thinks of her writings, and it was picked up in here.

I must say her knowledge in these topics is rather superficial and limited. Her book Forty Rules is full of clichés.

It can be said that Islamic civilization is perfect, but not the cultures that imbibed it. If we look at those ethnic ways as not having to conflict with the fundamentals or itself, but blood and soil to draw upon for personal and collective gain, then a clash of civilization would only be maintaining right and opposing the violations of the rights of other creations. It starts with an inner awareness of one's personal responses rather than secondary methods of conservatism.

I understand the need for muslims to understand deep western cultural sensibilities. The problem is that west has deep triniatrian roots and its culture is a byproduct reflecting its core values. Even modern-day western secularism emerged from sectarian warfare that plagued it for more than 500 years. Reformation totally wrecked the west and now it has plunged in deep materialism. This brutality of secatertrianism has made Western societies a present and clear danger to themselves and humanity at large. Muslims living in the west are in danger of getting caught up in these secatertrian wars

Always like these talks but I don’t agree with your thesis around 11:00, specifically wrt to “Malay Nusantara”. In Indonesia to this day the most characteristically “Indonesian” aspects of the culture are recognizably rooted in the Hindu-Buddhist tradition. This is implicitly clear in many spheres and sometimes made explicit with, for example, the association of Hindu-Buddhist themes with patriotism (see: “Garuda Pancasila”). In contrast even though the islands have been predominantly Muslim for hundreds of years Islam still feels like something rather unnaturally grafted-on to an existing rich culture. The Arabizing tendency is quite obvious in, for example, the way devout Muslims prefer to dress (I speak not of hijab or even male facial hair but full-on white thawbs). WRT literature specifically, there are far more famous Hindu-Buddhist folktales and epics than there are Islamic, and (as far as I know) many more Sanskrit-derived words in ordinary secular speech than Arabic.
