In the 43+ years I've been into photography, I have never had a better bag than a Domke F2. The design is 99% close to perfect. Lots of room with nice big side pockets. The body conforming comes in real nice when you are traveling. Low profile and stealthy, it doesn't scream "camera bag, steal me". The bag, with a little care will last and last. I have 2 that are over 30 years old and work great. The material developes a nice patina over the years and give it character. The next best bag is a Domke F3X. You were wise in getting a darker color. In my case, if I just look at something, it gets dirty. As the years go by you will realize what a wise purchase you made.

Hey, thanks for the review. To keep the Velcro silent, you can keep a spare piece to cover part/all of the Velcro on the bag. This is what I do when I need to be discreet.

No the F2 was not the largest bag there was the F1X in which it was just additional 3 inches from the outside, and an extra 2 inches inside, and that if you want you can p;ace a MAC Book Air on the back slit to place it there, as long that it has a padded sleeve. I got two of the F1X, and 6 of the F2 bags including the first one that was made in 1975 or 76. Enjoy your bag...

I almost regretting the black one I got. It's a lint magnet. I might pick up some of that wax to see if that alleviates anything.

I have changed the snaps that close the bag. I salvages the snaps from dog leashes and they work a lot better than the snaps Domke supplies with the bag. I used my original Domke F2 for thirty-years from 1977 to 2007 when I finally retired it. It was still usable but, my wife wanted a better looking bag. My original Domke was sand colored but this one is the darker oiled canvas. I thought that this will not show the dirt and I was right. Besides using this bag locally for 5 years now, I have traveled with this bag to China and to Greece and Turkey. It is none the worse for the wear and I fully expect another thirty-years of service out of it. YEP - it's pricey but, worth it!

Similar story, been using Domkes since 1984, still have my original F3x and in remarkably good shape for a 33-year-old bag and ditto for my F2. I have likely at one time or another owned every Domke bag in their lineup. I retired my battle worn F1-X a few years back, probably my most used bag as she carried a ton of gear. As a result of globe-trotting on every continent (well, save for Antarctica ) she was most heavily damaged on the rear compartment (tearing and ripping), mainly due to my careless overstuffing of the bag. Regardless she has held up well for a 25-year-old bag. As I am moving away from DSLRs (slowly) into the mirrorless realm, such a large bag is really no longer needed. Bottom line, Domkes are almost impossible to kill, they just keep shrugging off most abuse. Now, if only Domke made a decent backpack. I honestly can not say that their backpacks are of the same quality or functionality of the shoulder bags.

Depends on what you shoot mostly, but a 17-50mm f2.8 would be a nice upgrade from your kit lens!

At the end I saw you're actually looking older that I said before ;) Nice review, keep it up. Try to cover as much as possible. Do lots of videos. Do you know froknowsphoto? He did often more than 1 video a day when he started out on youtube. The more subjects you talk a bout in different videos, the more people gonna find those videos and so on. :)

I doubt it. The 70-200 sticks out a bit as is.

Cool review. Would you say you can fit a 70-200 attached to body in that side area where you keep your body? Shame the bag doesn't come with a Velcro silencing pad like some of the other bags out there.

Hi Niko (Hope I spelled that right), Do you have a beginner, or intermediate, video on lenses? Im kind of looking to get more information on which zoom lenses to add to my kit as somewhat of a beginner. I understand (...and am comfortable with) using fixed focal length lenses (35, 50, 85mm) but I kind of get lost when it comes to zoom lenses. I have a 18-135 that came with my 60D but I don't know which others to start with. Thanks!

Hey thanks for the review. I'm looking to buy this exact model, but you brown colour looks way nicer than the image on the Domke site. Did you Colour grade your video or is this how it really looks. Pricey but cool looking.
