***** Being gay isn't a sin, just like being straight isn't. It's not something you choose. Sex out of marriage, on the other hand, is a sin no matter if somebody is gay or straight. God doesn't play favorites. Jesus said to love everybody and judge no one. Only God has the right to judge. Just spread love. We are all sinners no matter who we are, and we will be until the day we die, and that's why every one of us needs Jesus. I understand that you mean well, but the way you worded your comment will get people even more discouraged and rebellious against Christ. Believe me, I know. I used to be an atheist and would scoff at comments like yours and mine. The great thing about it is that God promised He would save everybody who calls on His name.

I spent most of my teen years in the church and tried very hard to pray the gay away. Didn't work. Long story short, I left that church and spent years trying to accept myself. It took a long time to finally really accept myself and that God didn't make any mistakes and that He loved me as I was. In short, I wasn't a surprise to God, who already knew me before birth. Now that I finally have self-acceptance, I won't let anyone tell me I'm anything but wonderfully and uniquely made. Good for you, Simon. I know what it's like.

Wow, almost the exact same story for many of us growing up in the church and believing that we are a mistake. At the end we realize we are God's beloved children made by His perfect hands. Amen.

Simon, you are living proof : "Out of adversity comes the call to greatness!" Your life experience and your strong courageous attitude in dealing with those events show that attitude is more important than fact. You have shown us that listening to your own self is more important than listening to what so-called experts tell us. Very proud of you, Simon!

I miss collab channels so much, so I'm pretty thrilled this one has started, and has one of my fav KZbinrs! :D Your story is one that always hits home pretty hard, as I also grew up in a pretty religious environment, and went through the internal struggle and all the trying to "fix" myself and all of that, so I get the most of it. I have started the process of telling people I'm close to, but no family yet.

You glad you were able to move beyond your negative experiences. It makes me so sad when good people get blinded by legalism and prejudice and forget about the law of love. So many lives have been destroyed that way. Keep up the good work and keep sharing your story of triumph. You are making a difference in young people's lives. Rev. John Tonks

***** These comments of the people ( Paul) who wrote the passages you quote who were only familiar with the laws of the Jewish people and so the levitical law code of the O.T. informed their understanding. Today very few of us would hold to this code which supports slavery, not eating shell fish or pork, eating only those animals which have been slaughtered in a certain fashion etc. Why is it that good Christian people still are blind to the fact that sexual orientation is not a choice either for humans or the animal world in general ( yes same sex orientation does happen in the animal world). Our sexuality is determined before birth while we are still in the womb. Of course there is no definitive proof I can point to but then again there is no definitive scientific proof for the existence of God. Yet I have experienced God and His love in my life and have given my life to His service. I believe that since we are all created by God and he does not make junk and since sexuality is not choice then LGBTQ people are his children. Just as you and I have the God given obligation to live our life being true to ourselves so do LGBTQ individuals . Jesus said " Love the Lord your Gods with all your heart, with all your will and with all mind (your total being) and your neighbor as yourself."

Everytime I hear these kind of stories in which a religion says you're not good as you are, anger starts to boil in me. I respect everyone's believes, even if you believe that being gay is wrong or sinful or whatever, but please only live yourself according that believe and DON'T ask anyone else to live their lifes according to your set of rules or believes.

I had a similar complicated experience with my church as a gay teen. It's sad how some churches deal with gay teens. Though there are some out there that are completely supportive.

Sorry to hear that. I was kicked out as well. I was 17 years old. My mom & I reconciled, but my dad died hating me. His problem, not mine.
