Started listening to Camel (this album) in 1985-1986 and defined a start of more excellent real music.

I'm glad you dig into Camel ! Please note that huge part of their discography is made with concept albums which requires a start to end listening to get the real taste of it.

Ice from " I can see your house from here" is a good follow up. You will like it very much I am sure. Camel was the first concert I ever attended back in 1984. They are one of my all time favourite bands .

Glad to see this song is not being forgotten. Its the song that got me into the band and led me to love guitar music. You're right Andy takes you on a journey each time. Check out Ice if you haven't done so already. Can't believe for those in uk Camel doesn't get played on radio 2. Thank god for reaction channels spreading the word.

That organ-solo (Hammond organ?) has always been a favourite.... Lies is a slightly forgotten gem! Love the whole song

Camel is an excellent band from the seventies. They were overshadowed by other prog giants like Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd but they produced very good music over the years. Andy Latimer, the guitarist and singer still leads the group, they go on tour soon. His style is close to David Gilmour's. Try albums from the recent period like Dust and tears, Harbour of tears, Rajaz, A wink and a nod, these albums are masterpieces with lots of jewels with the guitar very high in emotion. Interesting to know about Selva, from the album The single factor, is that Anthony Philips (ex Genesis) collaborate to the album and play the acoustic guitar on this ong.

Yes funny to hear Ant Phillips around in those times, I guess he played the picking acoustic guitar behind the Andy Latimer melody solo on that moody "Selva", I know he could eventually play the keyboards that he became very skilled for, check his album "1984" and also his contribution on Mike Rutherford'first album "Small creeps days"

Can't wait for your reaction to The Snow Goose & Moonmadness. When it comes to the melodic and emotional guitar solos from Camel, I recommend Ice (Never Let Go live version), Long Goodbye, End of The Lane, Hopeless Anger, Watching the Bobbins, Coming of Age, The Hour Candle, Sahara, For Today, and After All These Years. Hope you enjoy them.

I still remember when "Stationary Traveller" came out. I already knew Camel through "Nude", but then one morning I was sitting in our kitchen having breakfast before going to school (high school), listening to the morning radio on our black mono B&O transistor radio when the DJ played "Stationary Traveller" right before the 8 O'Clock news as the album had just been released, only telling the band name and song title after the song. I was simply mesmerised by that solo. It gave me goosebumps then, and it still gives me goosbumps today. Every time! I bought the LP within the week and played the entire album on high rotation on my Hitachi HiFi stereo tower. In my opinion, David Gilmour's "Comfortably Numb" on the 1994 Pulse concert is epic, and Mike Oldfield's long solo on "Incantations" Part 4 is just making my soul soar. But Andy Latimer's solo on "Stationary Traveller" is in a league of its own. Every note is its own story. The last hug between two soulmates before they get separated by an evil concrete wall. Bonus info: Camel borrowed a Fairlight from Kate Bush for the recording of "Stationary Traveller".

Camel is my favourite band. The most recent live DVD/CD at the Royal Albert Hall 2018 shows just how Andy Latimer(original member) selects the best there is. Colin Bass remains the other longest serving member since the original lineup split.

Great reaction 👍🏻 I think you will like the guitarist of the band Arena too. Also very Gilmour like. Try the live version of 'The Visitor', awesome 🎸 solo at the end! Or the song Masters of illusion by Pendragon 👊🏼 Sahara by Camel is also great, just close your eyes and imagine yourself riding a 🐫 in the desert 😏 And the entire album Harbour of tears is recommended too.

YOU HAVE TO HEAR the band "HAPPY THE MAN" if you like CAMEL and UPLIFTING HEAVY MELODIC and intricate. Lies is probably their most Pink floyd sounding song. Mostly Camel had their own sweet sound. Andy is brilliant! Wait til you get to SNOWGOOSE.

Nude was inspired by the story of a Japanese soldier that thought WW2 was still going in 1974, when he finally learned it was over. Lies is about him receiving the news via leaflets that were dropped to him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda

Sad to see that Mostly Autumn did so poorly but it is probably representative of how poorly known they are. Much better band than the poll indicates and would really recommend giving them a shot on the Channel. Try ‘unquiet tears’ from the album ‘Ghost moon orchestra’ as a gateway. The Camel tracks are also probably not the best representations of the band. Earlier work such as the albums ‘ The snow goose, and ‘Moon-madness’ are arguably much better, not that this is bad. Andrew Latimer should be on a plinth almost as High as David Gilmour for the ‘feels’ of his guitar playing. The song that kills me with his guitar is ‘Ice’ Andy who is now in his 70s and Camel are still playing live and there is a European tour in 2023.
