We recently headed down south to North Carolina to visit @camelliaforestteagardens to see some cold-hardy varieties of Camellia (though not hardy enough to our Zone 5-6) and learn how best to grow them with owner, David Parks. You can visit Camellia Forest Nursery and order trees online here: camforest.com/

David was very relatable. He seemed pretty nervous about the camera but you could see him shine. He seems extremely knowledgeable and as a michigander I appreciate his work.

I live close to the Camilla Forest Nursery and it is fabulous. If you are in the area, don’t miss a chance to walk through the nursery. Thank you David for the tour. And Mr Turkey was a great co-host😂

I’m in Sydney Australia and they are everywhere here, growing quite easily, as long as they are in the shade and protected from the sun. I used to use the leaves when I was a wedding florist all the time. The rainbow lorikeets just love them.

I have been lucky enough to volunteer at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens in California, for over 15 years in the camellia gardens. I know Tom Nuccio, from Nuccio's Nursery in Altadena CA. I have several of his plants in my mom's backyard. My favorites are Nuccio's Bella Rosa & Black Magic, both have lovely color & petal formations. This was a great video of East Coast variations. Sadly Nuccio's will be closing in the near future..... Hello 👋🏻 from Southern California 🌴

That was interesting. I always thought that all camellias were heavily scented, but I guess not, kind of like roses. They are beautiful, though, maybe something to add to the patio plants that go into the greenhouse in the winter. Will have to do more research.

It's good to know, that they have a lot of nectar. A friend in Tennessee peps up humming birds and others, on their long flights. Maybe they'd like some natural sugar. Cool.

That was a nice tour about Camellias. I don't know much about them, but they are beautiful..some with blooms that look like a rose. David is very knowledgable and I like his quiet demeanor. The show stealer is the turkey! My goodness, what an adorable character and is like a puppy dog, following you around!🦃 His gobbles made me laugh. I've never seen such a tame turkey. Love it.♥ Thank you, Summer and David, for the tour.

Camellias have been called the winter rose for a long time. It's true, they just don't have the fragrance that roses have. That's good for people who don't like heavy fragrant flowers.

I just bought some tea plants from them before you put out this video, I just dound them online. I got two tea cultivars and they came in excellent shape and their website is fantastic! If you're a tea-holic interested in growing your own tea like me I highly recommend them!

Animals have serious feelings! They deserve to live! This is why I do not eat them or their stuffs . milk eggs ect all become dead for flesh. I choose lentils and so much delicious foods over pain and death! We have so many beans, Nuts ,seeds, grains herbs, spices, fruits and veggies! the world have so much food without death of beings that choose to live!

It would be very cool if you could visit Nuccio's Nursery in LA to do a video like this. Sadly, that nursery is in the process is closing. They grow camellia's and azaleas. I realize far away from where you live and they have some stuff that is not hardy in your climate. But they are a treasure about to close down as they are retiring. Other people on YT already did videos with them, so people can also watch those. There is also White's Nursery that is more in the neighbourhood. Maryland I believe. [edit] Oh it is mentioned in the video even.

Tom Nuccio is a wonderful man who has grown so many beautiful camellias, over the years. He deserves to retire after his lifetime of hard work. Sad that none of the extended family wanted to work at continuing the family's legacy of growing 1000's if not millions of camellias over the years. I am glad to have learned so much from him, over my 15+ years as a volunteer at the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. I grew up enjoying the camellias gardens since I was a child in the 1950's.

If you’re ever in Los Angeles I recommend a trip to Descanso Gardens. They have many camellias 20 plus feet high.

OH I just LOVE Mr. Turkey ! I guess he likes company. We had a turkey once called Putt. She would make a noise all of the time like she was talking to us . She loved to follow us around and if you had anything shiny on you she would want it. She was so much fun. 🪻🌷💚🙃

Thank you Ms. Summer. I found a camellia that’s hardy to my zone 6, it’s called April Tryst and I’ve been babying it like you wouldn’t believe. It’s it’s second year in the ground and hasn’t flowered for me yet. My husband builds cages for some of my shrubs because the rabbits do a number on my shrubs if they don’t have protection around them during the winter months. Little miss camellia has a cage, now I know to watch the weather this next winter and if it gets unusually cold I can wrap protection around it from the harsh winter winds. So thank you for doing a video on camellias. 🪻🌷💚🙃 I forgot to mention that it’s also supposed to be fragrant 😊🪻🌷💚🙃
