Maybe its because they realized that their order was going to be destroyed, the Empire would be shattered and in that process, the wall would be destroyed by the Empire's enemies. So they elected to preserve it in the hope that some of their order would survive and that the Last Dragonborn would realize his or her destiny to defeat Alduin.

@@adarshkamoda9183 well, they were canonically right to do so. Who knows where the hell did those Akaviri found all that info? They seem to understand the tower theory, and the wheel. There is so much knowledge of the inner workings of the TES lore. Did they have elder scrolls? Were they able to read them and understand them? My head cannon: The blades are remnants of the old akaviri, but i think that the moth priests also have some of the akaviri heritage. Think about it. They spend their entire lives divining out of them. They have intimate knowledge of the workings of the universe. And the first moth priest that comes to my mind is Dexion Evicus from the dawnguard quest line. Guess what is his weapon of choice? A blades Katana...

Another cool thing I just noticed: there seem to be three Blades holding their swords up in support of the Dragonborn on the wall. I believe there are only three blades in the game, correct? Delphine, the other guy, and Fultheim at the inn? If so maybe the wall also shows an abridged version of the fall of the Blades, literally showing their number by the time Alduin returns.

23:27 - "...a great hero, holding back the ferocity of Alduin, with the Blades kneeling in praise." This makes me think that you can only fully fulfill the wall's prophecy by using the Paarthurnax Dilemma mod. In vanilla Skyrim, the Blades don't end up kneeling before the Dragonborn in praise: You either kill Paarthurnax and thus effectively become Delphine's good little lapdog instead of an actual leader for the Blades, or you don't kill Paarthurnax, which results in the Blades ultimately shunning you. Only by Shouting some sense into Delphine, you fulfill even this last part of the prophecy.

Sorry, seems like my actual point flew over everyone's head. This was meant as a criticism of Bethesda's writing for the Paarthurnax quest specifically. Something like the option added by Paarthurnax Dilemma should have been available in this quest from the very beginning. I think there are other good arguments for that point, I only used the wall's symbolism to illustrate it here.
@left-2-write28

@@tarvoc746 I feel ya. I always felt annoyed that the blades were given new purpose by the Dragonborn. One of them was working at a backwater inn with a troublesome husband and the other was hiding in a glorified sewer drain. Yet the Dragonborn took them and gave them a noble purpose to fight Alduin. Not to mention that they had never been sworn to hunt down and kill dragons. They had assassins or scholars in a time without any dragons. Why in Oblivion are they so emotionally invested in killing a cool dragon buddy? And at the cost of telling their new boss and charge to fuck off???
@tarvoc746
@tarvoc746 4 жыл бұрын
@@left-2-write28 I don't think Delphine is invested in killing Paarthurnax. Not overly at least, not more than for any other dragon. She's invested in making _the Dragonborn specifically_ kill him. Delphine has been manipulative and controlling since the very first time you meet her, and she even outright lies to you straight to the face long before you even get to the Paarthurnax quest. I think it's pretty obvious that she wants to turn the Blades into her own personal army, and the Dragonborn into her loyal puppet. Paarthurnax is in the way because as a mentor character he has a very different, more subtle, but arguably stronger influence on the Dragonborn. For Delphine, killing him serves two connected purposes: First, it gets him out of the way. And second, letting you do it serves as a test of loyalty, to see if you're dedicated enough to her so she can mold you into her tool. If you don't let her control you that way, she knows that you're a threat to her authority over the Blades, and thus she'll kick you out as a risk to her plans. And if you do let her control you that way, she knows that she can goad you into committing outright immoral acts, and thus it's the first step to forming you to her will. It's similar to a mob boss telling a new recruit to perform a kill to prove his loyalty. Wanting the target dead is usually a very secondary concern for the mob boss. The real purpose is to turn the new recruit into a loyal killer.

@@THEJOKER-ii8wo when they made fallout 3, they made a spiritual successor set in the same universe. It's a lot like the lore of Dungeons and Dragons in that sense. @@jondubois5347 I agree. @ink4852
@ink4852 4 жыл бұрын
Here's the gist of it, at least the way I understand it through my own delves into the lore. Magnus is the God of Magick. He was the first of the Aedra/Magma Ge to abandon Lorkhan's Mundus creation project after they realized that they would lose most of their divinity during the process. The Eye of Magnus was said to be used in the creation of Mundus/Nirn. The way I understand it, it's essentially a magical toolkit of such. The Thalmor's ultimate goal is to unmake the world (not destroy the world, but rather unmake the world by reversing the process that used to create it). They believe that by unmaking the world that they can "return" to being Aedra/Gods themselves, as the Altmer claim to be direct descendants of the Aedra. Ancano found a shortcut through the Eye of Magnus.

I'm reminded of the headmaster of bards, Viarmo's statement. He says that despite one of the sides in the civil war winning, there is no real conclusion to be found. That leaders will come and go as time passes. That only the event of the dragons' return is something which definitely will be remembered. I believe the developers, by that, made sure that the next game doesn't have to provide us with any accurate detail or references to Skyrim and the civil war, just general points of it. The next chapter will likely revovle around a greater theme - the men versus mer conflict. The whole of the fith chapter in the Elderscrolls is practically leading up to it. But how it will unfold, time only will tell. Oh, but we do know of one heroine who will be present: Grandma Shirley Curry!

Whoever wrote this is a master craftsman at story telling and to be able to mold such a great story and lore into one piece or artifact in game must be so difficult for the average person. So this is why I say I tear up, the person who thought this up or people are amazing story craftsman. That is a gift that should be treasured.

The importance is if brainwashes you to keep creating and playing the game. Hence why its all Bethesda does now. As soon as they built it in the office all they could hear was Alduins voice commanding them to keep making more of the game. Rumor has it the only way to stop it is to open the Todd Howard blood seal and break the in-game purchase protection enchantment before you can destroy the wall and end the madness.

Okay so let me get this straight Basicly boom gods were tricked into making nirn. Daedra survivied and dragons are a thing for some reason. Boom now men are a thing. Some dude with a cool loking axe conquers tamerial. Dragons are drove out of akaviri by very hungry snake people so now the axe dude worships him? Kynes all like "bro thats so uncool heres how to scream so hard you set your opponents on fire and pull dragons to the ground. Boom magic paper is acually time machine space ray that hits aluduin sending him in side the timerift. Some weird stuff happens and some creppy old man locks his boss in the basement a a blue specter tells you to murder the old man. Then some dude hires you to use the numidum that the dwemer made before "achieving divinity". Time breaks because its not elderscrolls without time being messed up. Some 4 dudes betray azura so azuras like, "Your black now nwah." So you kill the most handsome god ever I mean hes a god how could you kill him but you do it anyway because you used exploits to do like a million damage with pots. Some red dude steals a necklace so you have to steal it back and turn it into a dragin. Now the dragin, the other dragon came out of the time loop and some jerks want you to kill your best bro parthanax and his former boss audiuin. You kill the jerk dragin but you keep your best dragon bro alive. Oh and now theres dragons eating cats now. :edit this is a joke dont take it seriously it was something i made at midnight so i wasent really thinking

In the dark souls series when Lord Gwen defuse the natural cycle of the world it essentially ruins reality which leaves a permanent mark on reality. The first flame then burns out after all u of its fuel is gone which leaves all of reality as ash. Moreover it is theorized that since the age of fire came from a grey formless world that this was the ultimate fate of the previous cycle as well. I wonder if this will be the fate of the elder scrolls universe. With the natural cycle disrupted, this calpa will continue for a long time until the universe snaps under the strain. Who knows maybe the god head will “wake up” and reality will end. . . .

And what if Alduin's Wall shows us not the completion of the prophecy which heralds our arrival, but forewarns us of the choice we will soon have to make, and the potential consequences if we make the wrong choice?

So three of however many towers have “fallen” so what happens if they all fall? Does nothing happen? Or does something beyond description happen?
@hellokatyfac3
@hellokatyfac3 4 жыл бұрын
Short version - that's what the Thalmor want. TL;DR shattering all towers makes the world end and everyone (possibly meaning "The Altmer") gets to be Divine. Quick history lesson: Lorkhan the trickster god convinced the Et'ada (Gods) to make Nirn. The Et'ada didn't realize it would cost them their divinity and godhood. Magnus realized it, and he and his countless subordinates fucked off to Aetherius. (The holes they tore in reality became the sun and stars.) The remaining ones decided what to do with Lorkhan and everything. In the end, they ripped Lorkhan's heart out, banished him, and the Et'ada and their descendants decided they should continue to make Nirn with Towers as "anchors" (for lack of a better term) which keep the world working as it should - math and physics, gravity, time, etc. work the way they do because of these anchors. It would cost everyone their divinity, but things would work out in the end. Those who continued to make Nirn (or realized too late) became the Aedra, who lost their divinity and godhood. Those who said no or refused to do so became the Daedra. The descendants of the Et'ada, descendants of the Ayleids, etc. eventually became all the Mer you see today. The Altmer have a large "religious" group (for lack of a better term) called Thalmor who believe that if creating the Towers requires you to give up divinity, then logically, un-creating the towers gives you divinity back. If the Altmer unmake or sunder all eight towers, Nirn destabilizes, reality fucks up, time stops being time, the World Eater consumes everything, and everyone loses Nirn but they all become Divine Gods. No more Nirn sure, but no more suffering, war, death, pain, hunger, betrayal, corruption.... nothing. In the end, literally becoming gods is worth the small price of all of reality. Most people see only two problem with this - in many eyes, ONLY the altmer would Ascend, and the path to doing so involves murdering ALL MEN. Literally making them extinct so that they are removed from history and possibility. This includes Talos, who is a man-god. As you might expect, most humans don't particularly like how this would work out for them. The other problem is that nobody's really 100% sure that destroying the towers will make everyone gods. Kind of like how if you put water and flour together and make it hot you get bread, but you can't take bread, make it super cold and get water and flour. most people are pretty sure if you sunder the things keeping reality the way it is, you just get death with no divinity as a freebie.

In my opinion, the 'Prophecy of the Dragonborn' is strikingly similar to the Jedi's 'Prophecy of the Chosen One'. And to quote Grandmaster Yoda: "a Prophecy that misread, could have been". And ANOTHER thing that has ALWAYS bothered me is this: Alduin's Wall was supposedly created in the First Era, and EVERYTHING that happened BEFORE the First Era is considered to be in the Merethic Era, or PRE-HISTORY. But, and I stress BUT, that line of thinking (considering EVERYTHING that happened BEFORE the First Era to be PRE-HISTORY) implicitly IMPLIES that EVERYTHING that happened BEFORE the start of the First Era DOESN'T MATTER, because it takes place BEFORE the start of actual RECORDED history. But, and again I stress BUT, that ONLY takes the continent of Tamriel into consideration. So essentially it basically IMPLIES that EVERYTHING that happened on OTHER continents involving OTHER/NON-TAMRIELIC peoples/civilizations actually DON'T COUNT/MATTER simply due to the fact that those other events (whatever they may be and REGARDLESS of how many centuries or even millennia they might have occurred BEFORE the start of the First Era actually DON'T MATTER simply because those events DIDN'T take place in Tamriel. Just my own personal opinion anyway

I’m actually a little confused. Every single detail is 100% accurate to the games, with the most relevant symbolism shown. Yet the Skyrim part is part is pretty ambiguous. It doesn’t show the Dragonborn defeating Alduin, (which the prophecy doesn’t know either so makes sense) but it does what appears to be Dragonsbane in the Dragonborns hand, if not just a normal katana, showing the significance of the Blades in this story. But what about the Greybeards? Were they not so essential? And what about Parthunax? Without him we would have never known to look back into time. And finally, why does the wall show 3 Blades members? Only Delphine and Esbern openly support the Dragonborn, so why show 3 Blades? Who is this 3rd member?

Okay let's be honest here about the elder scrolls 6. With the current climate of the video game industry, social discourse and modern media it is quite apparent that the game will take place in hammerfell. My question is what will be the plot? The dragonborn walks amongst us again, the only one to light the dragonfires and be made emperor once again. We are without an emperor at the end of es5. The thalmor are encroaching further onto Cyrodiil and hammerfell is putting up a hell of a fight. The dark brotherhood is in shambles, slowly making a return, the same with the thieves guild. The fighters guild didn't have much presence, pretty sure the mages guild was replaced by the synod. So what will be the plot? War between hammerfell, daggerfall and the thalmor? Who will the hero be? One of the ancient soul blade wielding yokudan? How do you top skyrims power fantasy-esque style game play? The only option is to match the power of the Dragonborn or go beyond. Otherwise es6 will feel inferior, subordinate to es5

Auldin will still end the current kalpa, all the last Dragonborn did was delay it. For how long? 100 years, 1000, who knows, but the world will fall by Alduins maw, as it has countless times before. Unless the Dragonborn returns from apocrypha every 500 or so years to delay Auldin again, like some kind of new Greymarch, worlds still gonna die. Unless the Dominion pulls that of first.

Okay this is a long and stupid theory but in the context of Skyrim itself, it may hold weight. I don't know if it's true but it's fun. My theory is that the Dwarves sent themselves forward in time on purpose, since we find the same Elder Scroll the ancient Nords used deep in Blackreach. Paarthunax calls it that, specifically. He says "the same Elder Scroll," and of all the ones for the Dwemer to hide away and sequester, that one makes sense since it covers their tracks. I also believe that they used the Snow Elves as a loophole for the Elder Scrolls, as Gelebor himself states he doesn't know how the Falmer were blinded. And what is the most common price for reading the Elder Scrolls? The readers eyesight. I'm not sure how and that weakens the theory, but it would make sense if the Dwarves used the Snow Elves to get out of losing their sight. Because something that's always bugged me is the fact that the Dwemer wanted the Falmer's eyesight. Like why? What would they have gained? This does give a motive. Also since Feldir had to invoke Kyne's name, and the Dwarves didn't worship Kyne, I think I know how they powered the scroll's magic. The Aitherium, it's the only thing in the game powerful enough to alter the Standing Stones, some of the most ancient magic in Skyrim. It could have been powerful enough to seal the contract needed to use the Elder Scrolls in such a fashion. It would explain how the Dwemer disappeared, but it doesn't explain why. And that really does weaken the theory, and makes it more of a headcanon, but honestly, if that's the main point of Elder Scrolls 6? The Dwemer returning in a full scale invasion force to a weakened Tamriel? That would be badass.

Here's a thought: what if Paarthurnax needs to die in order to disable the Snow Tower and fulfill the prophecy by making it sundered? Maybe he is the key to it being the "king" of the mountain? That may mean that his death may be considered canon and why the Dragonborn was not presented with an option to decline. If the "wheel turns upon x" means that x will walk Nirn that also may mean that (suspense) the dragfonborn in Skyrim may not be the literal last dragonborn because he/she killed Parthurnax after being born.

The Wheel doesn't refer to a wheel of time. The Wheel is the shape of Aurbis, also with its eight spokes which the staff of chaos probably relates to but that's besides the point here. or it refers to the Wheel of Fortune (not the gameshow) as fortune turns on the dragonborn just before the start of es5 putting you in your prisoner setup. Then it turns again with Alduin preventing your execution, and again as you get involved in things. It turns again and again as the dragonborn succeeds and nearly fails again and again over the course of the game. It's just much more kirkbride than saying the wheel of time.

If you catch him while he;s sleeping and question him, Ulfirc will tell you he killed the king because he could and that because he's powerful he should be king. For that reason alone I side with the empire. The last thing skyrim needs is another moronic dictator who cares nothing for the people only for himself ruling them. For the powers feuding for control of the Iliac Bay, here's an excerpt from "The Warp in the West", a book found in tES4 Oblivion: "During the 'Miracle of Peace', according to official accounts, the formerly war-wracked Iliac Bay region was transformed overnight from a patchwork of squabbling duchies and petty kingdoms into the peaceful modern counties of Daggerfall, Sentinel, Wayrest, and Orsinium. The 'Miracle of Peace', also known as the 'The Warp in the West', is celebrated as the product of the miraculous interventions of Stendarr, Mara, and Akatosh to transform this troublesome region into peaceful, well-governed Imperial counties." As for the other two endings... The Underking likely claims the death he sought, and, given the Shade of the Revenant, it is possible that King of Worms did actually ascend to a godlike state, and he did claim the title of God of Worms if "Where Were You When the Dragon Broke? " (another in-game book) is to be believed. And for the process of how countless timelines are reconciled... Well, average out all possibilities and distill muddlingly homogenized aspects into disparate parts as you would a sample in a centrifuge, and you may be closer to the result than you might think. Perhaps the rest just falls into place naturally like a fine sediment as a result.

Fascinating lore, many thanks for your efforts! Just one piece of evidence that I take issue with, if you ask him Ulfrik claims that, while he learned to use the thuum (in the same way the monks do) and used it in his challenge, he killed the high king with his sword !. The claim that he shouted the kings body to pieces is a fabrication that was developed by the empire to imply that Ulfrik’s challenge was not done legitimately. This has always seemed more likely to me despite the fact that I usually side with the empire. 😀

I hate to be that guy (who am I kidding, I love being that guy) but the Dragon Wars happened long after the Mythic Era. That era was before the Dawn Era, and the Dawn Era ended with the death of Lorkhan. The Dragon Wars happened in the Merethic Era, if not the first.

Dragon Breaks are a mess. They really went all in with the "unfathomable for most mortals" aspect of the Dragon Breaks.

I'm surprised but I gotta point out that u made a mistake. u said that Dragon Rend forces a dragon to land so that they become more vulnerable. mechanically in skyrim that is wut the Shout does but thematically it's just the side effect of wut the Shout truly does which is make a dragon feel all their long years just as a Mortal would. the sudden pain of old age n the sensation of being on Death's door cripples them temporarily n because of this they r too weak to continue flying

You didn't even mention the fact that there's clearly 3 blades agents with the Last Dragonborn even though there's clearly only two in the game. Or is there, wink wink.

I love the Dragonborn Prophecy and how it both simply and thoroughly sums up the major events of the series leading up to the events of Skyrim. The Towers is one of my favorite parts of the lore as well. And if you read into it, “The Wheel” isn’t just the wheel of time. It refers to the structure of the Aurbis. The universe itself is made ready for the last Dragonborn. He was fated.
