Let's also point out that dagon is the name of an angel that used to be worshipping in ancient Syria And the name molag bal is extremely reminiscent of baal who was also an evil angel that was once worshiped in ancient Israel Of malachath that seems similar to moloch who is also a fallen angel that was once worshiped Bethesda itself is also a biblical name, tbh the developers of the elder scrolls might just be very fond of devils, might even be worshippers of devils And devil is a fallen angel for those that don't know There was real devil worship back then, and there's real devil worship nowadays, but I hope that shows you the opposite side of things. Interesting detail: In The Shadow Over Innsmouth, it is HEAVILY implied that the Deep Ones mate with the humans in Innsmouth, which is why many residents carry their traits. The "....or worse" in this game is probably implying that the sacrifices are not only killed, but also raped. It makes sense theyd gloss over this because thats a bit dark for this game, but we do know that Molag Bal is the Prince of Rape and it would explain the physical characteristics of the residents. It looked like those bones were in the cages in the caverns. Why would they throw corpses in cages? They wouldnt, but they would throw them in the cages if they were still alive, but being kept alive because they were pregnant.

Your theory about Molag Bal checks out in terms of sload as well. Mannimarco himself was a highly powerful necromancer in service to Molag Bal during ESO, and as you said, sload are necromancers. Molag Bal's dominion is very heavily rooted in Necromancy as well, the domination of bodies and souls. Also, Septimus Signus of Skyrim, the mage in service to Haermaeus Mora, the Daedric prince of knowledge and secrets, (as well as the most lovecraftian of daedric lords) briefly mentions the Deep Ones. "The ice entombs the heart. The bane of Kagrenac and Dagoth Ur. To harness it is to know. The fundaments. The Dwemer lockbox hides it from me. The Elder Scroll gives insight deeper than the deep ones, though. To bring about the opening." Also, I found this while looking through his dialogue: "The Daedric prince of the unknown. Hermaeus Mora. I thought there were no secrets left to know. Until I first spoke to him. He asks a price -- to work his will. A few murders, some dissent spread, a plague or two. For the secrets I can endure. In time, he brought me here. To the box. But he won't reveal how to open it. Maddening." "The sealing structure interlocks in the tiniest fractals. Dwemer blood can loose the hooks, but none alive remain to bear it. A panoply of their brethren could gather to form a facsimile. A trick. Something they didn't anticipate, no, not even them. The blood of Altmer, Bosmer, Dunmer, Falmer, and Orsimer. The elves still living provide the key. Bear you hence this extractor. It will drink the fresh blood of elves." The more I read about that daedric prince though, the more likely it seems to be his work. "They attempted to learn the secrets contained within, but instead their city was swallowed by the earth. Following the gradual absorption of Ayleids into Bosmer society, the Bosmer descendants of the lost city attempted to rebuild." Interesting to note, the Ayleids are everywhere in Cyrodill, and Hackdirt is very close to an Ayelied ruin filled with undead. Though the city that was swallowed up was supposed to be along the strid river along the border of Valenwood. "Mora had the Champion collect souls from the ten main races of Tamriel, which were needed by his followers to perform a divination." So here we have evidence of Mora using blood and souls, but not bodies. And Daedra do share some servants among each other, so it is not impossible that the two lords have minions that serve them both in that area. As for Vampires, some bloodlines hate Molag Bal, and it is possible that these are vampires who were twisted by Hemaeus Mora after being embraced by an ancient bloodline. en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Hermaeus_Mora en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Septimus_Signus

@Punk Moon Which is why I believe there might be Lovecraftian deities in The Elder Scrolls, co-existing with the Aedra and Daedra. No, not Lovecraft-inspired deities like Hermaeus Mora. _Actual_ deities from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. And of course, the Deep Ones are a race of creatures in the Cthulhu Mythos and are mentioned in Oblivion.

In regards to the Sload as Deep Ones: Underground cave systems in our world are frequently filled with water and not uncommonly connected to the ocean; no reason to believe the same can't be said of Tamriel. Another possibility is the Falmer; they may have found their way south through massive underground tunnel systems and made contact with surface dwellers, demanding blood and perhaps slaves in exchange for whatever minerals and treasures they come across underground. Not their standard M.O., of course, but still possible. All that said, I think your Molag Bal theory holds a lot of water. Not bad at all.

Given how old this vid is this comment probably won't get noticed, but but here's a few points to consider anyway. 1. The sound coming from the caves. If that's a Deep One then they are BIG. Doesn't sound like vampires or sloads to me. 2. The "or worse" comment could refer to torture. Where "blood" would just be a straight sacrifice. 3. There's nothing preventing the Deep Ones from being a type of here-fore unseen creature. (Okay they're still unseen, but that's not the point.) 4. The bones found in the caves may not be from sacrifices. It could be previous "brethren." If they don't come out of the caves after changing the that's where they will eventually die. 5. Given the setting I think that the initial interference (88 years ago) was likely Mehrunes Dagon. That's to good a reference to pass up on. Also remember that his spheres of influence include change and ambition. Ambition fits the situation in Hackdirt both 88 years ago and presently, and villagers affected change. 6. A random villager suddenly learning to read Deadric is pretty unbelievable. Etira is likely had instruction or perhaps misdirection. Which leads to my next point. 7. If deadra are involved (likely), it doesn't mean that the one messing with Hackdirt now is the same one from 88 years ago. With the info you gave, I'd agree that he's a likely candidate for the current trouble there. So my personal theory is that 88 years ago the miners found something that either had a connection to Mehrunes Dagon or that one of his agents took advantage of. Some time before rescuing Dar-Ma, Etira came in contact with either a deadra or more likely a vampire that convinced her to mislead the villagers about the contents of their bible, so that they would unknowing serve Molag Bal.

I think they are lurkers . Here me out , lurkers have fish like features , like that of the brethren . they are also daedra which would explain the book . They also roar in a similar way to what is heard in the caves . not only this but there is likely water under the town as there is a well in the town . And like other daedra they could like the suffering of mortals which is why they demand blood . The reason the shop owner could like you as a vampire , may be that like the brethren , you dislike the sunlight and demand blood . Thanks for reading this far , feel free to leave your opinions .

Not bad. Certainly plausible. Whether or not they’re directly connected to Hackdirt, the Lurkers- and pretty much everything related to Hermaeus Mora- are undoubtedly inspired by Lovecraft, what with all the ancient forbidden knowledge that drives people crazy, freaky fish-men-demon monsters, things with way, way too many tentacles... *Shudder*... @fuzzydunlop79286 жыл бұрын
Because mods. Though I wouldn't call it "on par" exactly. Skyrim was more stylized in its character design, while they really tried to follow a semi-realistic tone (which kinda failed due to technological limitations of the time, imo. It looks pretty cartoony regardless). The gentleman in the video likely downloaded a texture pack that might make the faces less generic-looking, as that was a real problem for the game. It might have been part of a general "Oblivion re-done" type of mod which changed more than just character designs but idk. I'm not too well-versed on Oblivion mods. I was a console peasant during its heyday.

Fun fact: The events of ESO were actually hinted in TES IV in the background in Necromancer dungeons as there were on occasion- actual dedicated shrines to Molag bal- Hinting Mannimarco’s association with the prince Now as for the explanation of the Sload text behind Daedric- there IS a reason- Sload- namely N’gasta whom in Redguard had a soul net- which caught him souls he traded off to Daedric princes- one being Clavicus Vile- who is into soul trading- evident by his little fiasco with umbra in that side-story- IS ALSO THE SECONDARY PATRON OF THE HIDDEN SINGULAR CYRODILLIC VAMPIRE CLAN MENTIONED IN IMMORTAL BLOOD AND THE VILE LAIR DLC AND IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT A MERE WALK AWAY FROM HACKDIRT IS A VAMPIRE INFESTED FORT- (and the very first place I ever encountered them in game inTESIV back in the day) And I might add- if the bible if the deep ones IS a NG’HASTA TEXT then they actually most likely have the provided information on the trade of -yup Mortal souls! Whether or not this involves the hidden Cyrodillic vampire clan and it’s dual service to Molag Bal and Clavicus is debatable, but you’ve definitely helped crack the code here- the only question remaining being a check through ESO and prior TES instalments to see if there are any Daedra that relate to whatever is in the deeper caverns- unless- taking a note from D&d- something Bethesda does in TES under the radar quite is not performing a transposition process in the vein of Outsiders in 2e Ravenloft with the Brethren. Additionally check the sound file names and check out the uncut and restored content mods for TES IV loaded into the CS Kit to see if any files brought to light provide any further clues on this mystery- Hackdirt’s collective plan may be to create a soul net, restore ties with the incredibly top secret cyrodillic vampire clan, and release/offer up the appropriate persons to transposition with whatever Daedra are behind the cave in. If you consider the veil of the realms weakening due to the events of the Oblivion crisis to boot- it’s highly possible that this entire event is actually part of a long term plan which might actually be on Molag Bal’s part the same trick Dagon and Sheogorath’s attempts to reach Mundus- a hidden Hackdirt in- so to speak- Certainly explains why the themes ring true with how things went down with the Volkair- this plan may have succeeded and allowed him further influence or something-

My first thought was the the "deep ones" were creatures like the "nameless things" in the LOTR universe or "old gods" like in WoW. They are Lovecraftian monsters based on things like C'thulu and Yog-Sothoth. Most fantasy games/worlds have some kind of Lovecraft monsters that live under the surface of the world that used to rule it in the distant past, and are plotting to one day take it over.
@kevinpoynter6697 Жыл бұрын
Edit: With your help, I may have (entirely by accident) stumbled onto an interesting, albeit slightly uncomfortable, additional minor detail/‘theory’/something. I’m gonna post it in the main comment section, just for fun. I’ll credit you. Perhaps, after only *4 years* we may have inadvertently uncovered yet another mystery of Hackdirt (bad pun totally intended). Lol. 👍 ------ Ohh. Good eye. That would be another clear parallel to Shadow Over Innsmouth. In SOI, the narrator visits Innsmouth out of curiosity one day, quickly realizing that there’s some messed up shenanigans afoot. He starts low key investigating and asking some questions, receiving the obligatory “None o’ yer business, outsider! Get on outta here if’n ya know what’s good for ya!” shtick, finally meeting some drunk hobo who tells him that shi is f’d, they made a ‘pact’ with the ‘Deep Ones’ and gave them ‘blood- and worse’, then over time they started mutating to become like the Deep Ones. The ones who are most affected start to live in secret tunnels underneath all the old houses to be close to the deep ones, eventually fully transforming into gross fish-men things and going to live underwater with the deep ones in their freaky underwater fish-men city (HP Lovecraft was legitimately crazy and did *alot* of drugs... to no one’s surprise...). The townspeople, who are of course spying on him, tell him that- yo, crazy coincidence, the bus, the only way out of town, suddenly ‘broke’ and, crazy coincidence, it won’t be fixed until the next day, but it’s cool, he can stay at the inn for the night, where they definitely will *not* try to secretly kill him because he knows too much about their freaky town (spoiler alert: they try to secretly kill him because he knows too much about their freaky town- who could’ve seen that one coming?). Interestingly, after escaping, contrary to the ‘Horror Story Rules’, he tells people there’s a town full of freaky fish-monsters and they actually believe him and send in the military to burn down the city- kind of like... the Imperial Legion going in and burning down Hackdirt (duh)... So the quest doesn’t directly parallel the plot of SOI, it’s actually more like a ‘sequel’, where after the city is burned down, the survivors start to rebuild and ‘rediscover’ the secrets of the deep ones and try to make contact with them again, at which point a second ‘outsider’ (the player) shows up and finds out about their crazy shit. Much more creative than just a straight up rehash of SOI. Very cool. As for “blood...and worse...”, how/why exactly the townspeople started to look more and more like the deep ones within a generation or so of ‘meeting’ them, the fact that they specifically chose a young *woman* to ‘sacrifice’, given Molag Bal’s known... hobbies... especially in light of a particular bit of extremely uncomfortable dialogue with Serana from Skyrim regarding the ‘ritual’ performed by Harkon for Molag Bal, which she refuses to talk about, only saying that it was... “degrading”... before quickly changing the subject... Yeah... Wait. Something just occurred to me... “Brethren”... Now, I went to public school so I’m not very smart and I don’t have my Thesaurus on hand at the moment (foolishness- always keep your Thesaurus handy...), but, IIRC, the term “Brethren” can generally refer to any close-knit community/organization/‘family’/etc, but more specifically equates to “Brotherhood”... Weren’t all of the ‘Brethren’ in the cave where the young Argonian Maid was going to be... ‘sacrificed’... men...? Inexplicably shirtless... half-clothed... men... Wielding peculiar maces... long, hard, thick, stiff, girthy... wood... ‘maces’...? ... OP, you mentioned that when sleeping at the inn, you’ll be attacked by the ‘Brethren’. I notice you go by ‘LadyLiddell’- is it safe to assume that your Oblivion character was a... female? Camel, you mentioned that if you talk to that woman in Hackdirt as a Vampire, her disposition changes from 4 to 100- I believe you specifically worded it “...she couldn’t be any more in love with you...”- is it safe to assume that your character in Oblivion was a... male? Because... yeah... Well... that took a bit of a dark turn... Screw it. Send in the Legion. Burn that joint again. Use more fire this time. That is just a whole barrel of ‘NOPE’. TLDR: Stay TF away from Hackdirt. :|

I think I know which dadric princ it was, hermaeus mora. My proof is two things one is the book itself, as we know from the dragon born dlc hermaeus mora employs seekers to record all information. So it's safe to say that the dadra record there findings in dadric. I think that when the cave collapsed so many years ago it killed a seeker, and just like the piles of rags left by seekers in the dragon born dlc, there were books on them. So the book found in the cave, was just a book from hermaeus moras realm. This also awnsers many other questions as well since the motive of other princes wouldn't fit here. Once hermaeus mora had finnaly found out all the knowledge he wanted from the town's people, by jabbing his tendrils threw them, he moved on taking his seekers with him. Unfortunately he left behind one of his mind spires (the structure Mirak uses to force people to work) all thow it's purpose is different than building. I know this one is a long shot but say the brethren were cover in all rags and floated...... I wonder what they would look like. Yes I am saying the stone in the caves is slowly turning them into seekers. The pedestal in the church also proves it, the bottom portion of the stand looks like an eye, surrounded by tentacles.

So, this could be a reach and a half, but the sound unique to Hackdirt sounded almost like a dragon's roar. What if during the mythic era, there was a dragon that worshiped Molag Bal and was turned into some vampiric abomination (sort of like how Durnheviir was made into a dracolich) and then Molag Bal hid said dragon beneath Hackdirt to create the cavern network below the town that would eventually hold an army of Molag Bal's, with the intent to be to burst from under Hackdirt to cause more strife when the dragons returned to Tamriel and the Empire was at its weakest?

THAT WAS FASCINATING!!! I love ES lore and history and I'm very ignorant of most of it. To have someone do such a deep dive, suggest so many possible theories, and even flex a little bit of knowledge was really cool to see. Liked, Subscribed, and hit the bell. I can't wait to see what other videos you have already and what is yet to come! I also can't wait to share this with my friends whom enjoy the ES series as much as I.

Id like to the the deep ones could be one of two things, either dwarves who split during the collapse and became daedra worshippers since their beliefs failed them. Or scarier and much worse and unknown race of daedra that live in pure darkness unbound to any princes or bound to the forgotten one

Perhaps it's an underground lake which would allow the sload to survive. That would also possibly effect their appearance and mental state. Being underground and isolated from anything besides the same place for centuries or millennia they would be more aggressive (contrary to the average sload), probably fewer in number as well as a longer life, and or different in other ways. Perhaps the sload or sloads made a deal long ago with a daedra. they may have lived in the cave system and came out every so often to eat or corrupt. Maybe the power they gained Extended their lives and twisting them into something completely new.

Hell, why couldn't they be daedric vampiric sload? That's pretty much what I said with my first comment.
@Xbalanque847 жыл бұрын
Hunter Hagen Perhaps, following the theme of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos, any sload down there are _asleep._ In the wake of the first purge, perhaps the sload went into hibernation until the situation improved. By this logic, the noises would be the sload shifting in its/their sleep, the sacrifices are actually being ignored by the dormant sload, what's-her-name is a vampire taking advantage of the situation to collect blood _for herself,_ and the changes of the Hackdirt natives could just be the result of earlier generations of sload tampering, mutation caused by magical radiation/simple proximity to the sload, and/or just several decades of inbreeding.

I mean, it's possible, but the evidence in the video about it being Molag is far more compelling imo. Seriously, the vampire dialogue thing blew me away and the maces..... two very strong evidences. Also, I think "or worse" phrase refers to rape.
@axeldornelles52926 жыл бұрын
Ryan Seneczko The sudden change of disposition for being a vampire is also explainable by the Sload hypothesis. You see, Sloads are avid necromancers and frequently make servants out of them. Being a servant of a necromancer, she could simply have a positive view of the undead. Vampires are, in the end, just a type lf undead.

Also, you've no idea that 'all' the bodily remains in the cavern are of sacrifices. They might just be brethren who died there.

Why do people always have to bring up his personal beliefs whenever someone mentions how brilliant he was in writing. Sure, he was racist. So was everyone else late 19th century early 20th century but that doesn’t discredit literary genius.

@@realityrabbid3053 he was pretty racist even for the time though, and i think people bring it up because those themes of xenophobia and his fear of the unknown are big themes in his works. If he wasn't such a xenophobe he probably wouldn't have written such great stories.

I've just found your channel and been really enjoying this detective series. If you haven't already would you consider doing a video on Serana, the Daughters of Coldharbor (especially the first one), Molag Bal, and how Serana and her family became Vampire Lords?

Also Molag Bal’s shrine is pretty close to Hackdirt if you look at the map of Cyrodiil… I wouldn’t be surprised if the people of Hackdirt pay the occasional visit to that particular shrine from time to time…

Doubt it. More likely Mehrunes Dagon worshippers.
@kevinpoynter6697 Жыл бұрын
There is one true God, and to us Christians he came in the form of man as Jesus Christ who reconciled the world to himself as a willing sacrifice for the world

Imagine if random skyrim quests where like this
@KyleJordanGaming3 жыл бұрын
There are a few quests/areas in Skyrim (and Fallout 4, even) with some pretty crazy deep lore mystery stuff like this- specifically, Lovecraft inspired. Off the top of my head, the most iconic is probably Rorikstead. There’s also that weird magic tree(??) thing, strongly referencing “The Color Out of Space”, another Lovecraft story. Plus ‘Kagrenzel’, I think it’s called, the Dwemer Ruins in eastern Skyrim where you get in what appears to be an elevator, then you just freefall into this freaking gigantic cavern and it’s really funky and may have once held the Numidium (the Dwemer’s giant... robot... Elder Scrolls is weird, man...). Not to mention Blackreach. I’m pretty sure Camel has videos on all of them. He also recently did a *3 hour* video about the Augur of Dunlain, that random talking glowing thing in the Mage’s College Basement that you talk to *once* in the entire game. It was pretty impressive. 3 hours... gotta respect the grind... Lol...
