@@AlannahMarie Do you have a go to "method" or style/approach to acting like Meisner etc. or do you mix and match? Or perhaps your very own method? lol
@AlannahMarie3 жыл бұрын
Hi @ShauneSterling, to be honest I like to mix and match but also take my own approach. I do like what Stanislavski writes about acting and I think Meisner is useful to help you forget about yourself and focus on the other character (but then again I think Stanislavski taught this but in a different way). I also think it's important to use what works for you as well. I always like analysing body language and observing how people work in general and this helps for individual situations (for instance when it comes to something specific like crying or laughing or something). There are more modern theorists who develop what Stanislavski said which I've found helpful like Uta Hagen and Dee Cannon (they just write in a much more modern way and it's easier to grasp therefore). I also really like Brecht haha (although I wouldn't follow him for screen acting as he tries to alienate the audience with juxtapositions that don't necessarily look natural on camera, but his reasons for doing so are really interesting!) Hope this is useful. Do you have any particular favourite theorists or methods?

@@AlannahMarie yeah 100%, this is very helpful =)...As for me I basically fell into acting without any formal training so my initial approach was basically whatever seemed to work for me (I would film myself and analyze my own acting and make adjustments until I saw some improvement). It was some time after I began hearing about different methods and wanted to learn more about from professional teachers. I like Meisner and Uta Hagens approach the most I think. I also recently started reading a book by Kimberly Jentzen that is really useful as well as the information you share makes so much sense and has helped alot! So I guess in general I mix different ideas with my own ideas to create something that works for me

im part of a generation where so much of good information is online. each video gives me more tips from years of learning. im wondering should i still look into buying books for acting?
@AlannahMarie2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'd recommend books by Brecht, Stanislavski, Hagen and other pioneering theorists. But also I'd say that acting (and its technique) is evolving and so it's good to be observant, and generally do what works for you (rather than merely apply acting principles). But yes online is very useful as well! :)
