Great review! They are certainly not cameras meant for beginners but the more you use them the more you appreciate them. I’ve been using them for years. I agree that the jpgs are pretty good but I usually can get a little more out of the raw files. Luckily the cameras provide a jpg + raw option. I just posted a video about my experience using all 3 of them with lots of photos taken throughout the years

For sure get a grip for it. Also, I use a screen loupe as a viewfinder.
@MattsNotes Жыл бұрын
I snagged a grip! A loupe would be awesome. Have you tried the viewfinder for the DP2? I'm curious about those as well

Loved the output! I have one for a week now, so I’m very curious about your JPEG settings. The X3F files are pretty slow to edit in Sigmas software. When you select the blue layer in monochrome mode in SPP, the files are crisp and clean up to ISO 1600. Don’t forget to turn down noise reduction with the blue layer selected. Pure magic. I’ve got DP1 (original) incoming. These cameras are pretty addictive. Curious to learn about your JPEG setting!

Honestly I haven't touched the jpeg settings much, but I will have to try this! I plan on getting out with the ol' dp1 in the next few weeks. Thanks for this tip and comment!

800-1600 ISO? How? I haven't been able to use this camera over iso 100 without severe green artifacts
@GeertKuster Жыл бұрын
@@suffocatedyou’d have to use SPP for the black and white trick of the blue channel. Slide the color wheel in monochrom to 100% Blue, and turn off noise reduction.

Ohhh, this is only for B&W photography. I see@@GeertKuster

You can get a dummy battery to the Sigma Merill series and hock it up to a big powerbank and shoot picture all day long.And it is some cheap grip you can buy for it as well :)

That is a slick idea! I'd love to see a visual of this setup

"at least in recent times" LOL.... yes the old Sigma lenses were known to fall apart literally in your hands back in the 80's

I shot 4x5 and got Merrills for high-resolution digital. 100 ISO, show up at dawn, use a tripod, pray for no wind...

What a scene! How did the shots normally turn out, especially when compared to a 4x5?

Sigma is responsible for killing this camera with the demented build quality and terrible speed and battery. It's almost like they were selling the best sensor and worst camera combo.

Totally. It could have been 25% bigger, cost 25% more, with a 50% more powerful processor .... and it might not have flopped as hard.

irony is this is a better b/w camera then ever color.
