This is still my best camera I owned as I just upgraded to this from D700 a few years ago. I still owned both of them and I owned many old AF lenses and Z7 is still too expensive for me so I don't really want to move up that way. When I look at my old pictures taken by D700 it's still look stunning.

Still like how these kind of pro camera body feel in my hand, so I like to collect these massive camera both from Canon and Nikon despite it doesn't really make much sense when carry these around. Indeed I can get similar photo when using smaller camera without having to carry similar kind of weight but many time it doesn't feel the same. The only thing I don't really like about Canon 1D/1Ds Mark III/IV or Nikon D2/D3 series is if I didn't use the camera for a long time and I left the battery in the camera they will somehow unable to charge without any light shown on the charger, basically bricked. I never encounter this kind of problem on lower class camera's batteries and it's frustrating because these batteries are expensive and hard to find.

I have basically grown into photography with Canon starting with the Canon 40D, then 60D, I then moved to the 7D which I still own to this day, at that point I wanted to move into FF so I got the 6D, then I moved to 1DIII which was my favorite camera for a very long time. I found that the APS-H sensor had a wonderful character to it. I grew my lens collection while owning the 1DIII and picked up another 1DIII as a spare. When I started doing headshot photography part time I took the opportunity to buy a 5Ds R and 1DX. I still own the 1DX but recently got rid of the 5Ds to get the R6 and R7 as travel cameras since I no longer do studio headshots the 5Ds rarely got used since I was carrying the 1DX. Today I own a 1D, 1DIIn, 1DIII (gave my other one to my niece for Christmas a few years ago), 1DX, 1Ds, 1Ds II, 7D, R7, & R6. I've been thinking about picking up a 1DIV to have the last APS-H sensor camera that Canon made.

Just saw you video for the first time and I am looking t I buy an 800 series or a 850 buy wanted to ask you did you mention anythjng about the video from your 800e how is the video from that camera Thank Jim
@MattsNotes18 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question, Jim! The D850 edges out the D800 in video as it has 4k and slow motion options. The D800 is workable in my opinion; it has full HD and a mic jack. In short, the d850 could be a better option for video. The d800 is significantly more affordable however, and if you're working within the D850 budget, I'd almost rather just grab a D800, and a budget friendly camera with good video specs (like a used nikon z30 and nikon f to z adapter) then you'd benefit from multiple camera angles while likely still coming under the price of one d850 lol. I hope that helps!

I love this little camera. I happened to get a bad copy (at least from what I understand), the evf stopped working, but I had been using it pretty constantly. I sold it (was honest about the nonworking evf), but I would totally buy another one. I really liked it, and the sound was quite good with the built in mic, something that gets overlooked. It's also a good stills camera. New or used, you can get two or three lenses and have the whole package. It's a lovely camera, and I love that you're covering overlooked, or undervalued cameras.
@MattsNotes18 күн бұрын
I'm actually in the middle of making a "revisited" video about this little gem of a camera! Camera prices are ABSURD right now, but the g100 is ridiculously affordable now that the g100d is on the market (same camera with a USBC port and somehow better but worse EVF lol). I've been seeing them go for 300 with a kit lens. It punches way above it's weight!

Maybe it might be an idea to mention that you can fit a Nikon ai(s) manual focus lens on the D200 - enter it into the non-cpu lens settings and you get full matrix metering and you can shoot manual or apature priority !! ...want film like images....use a lens designed for film !!

Great review! They are certainly not cameras meant for beginners but the more you use them the more you appreciate them. I’ve been using them for years. I agree that the jpgs are pretty good but I usually can get a little more out of the raw files. Luckily the cameras provide a jpg + raw option. I just posted a video about my experience using all 3 of them with lots of photos taken throughout the years

I also still have my Nikon D700, D4, but I also have the Z6 and as I work at Panasonic I have the S1R and the S5II and all the lenses (2.8, 1.4 and 1.8) I love shooting with my Nikon D4, the only thing missing from DSLRs is sensor stabilization. If I take a handheld photo with my 105mm 1.4E on my DSLR vs my Z6 it's incomparable the Z6 has no movement blur and I can go very low in shutter speed, whereas with the 105 in any case, I can't do it below 1/125th, whereas with the Z6, I can go very, very low and not have any motion blur. But I still prefer to use my D4, so both systems have their advantages and disadvantages

I switched from Canon dSLR's to the Sony A7IV last year and regretted it so much, I sold the whole Sony kit and went back to dSLR's (1Dx Mark II). Feels great to hold a REAL camera in the hands. The Sony was too tiny. The edges sharp and uncomfortable to hold. My fingers could barely fit to push the lenses release button. It's all just too compact. But what really sealed its fate was the horrible Overheating issues. Very annoying. My 1Dx is a TANK and takes amazing pictures. And IMO, the older dSLR's have better sensors. I can't explain it. Like modern FILM, I feel like the new mirrorless cameras don't have good realistic images. Too plastic looking. They try to be too sharp and NO NOISE that the images look fake.
@MattsNotes18 күн бұрын
Agreed a thousand percent. The 1DX ii seems like it was built to last forever lol. I hear ya on the visual visual side too; I feel like I always have to post produce longer with mirrorless systems, whereas my old canon DSLR images are ready straight from camera lol
