I'm in the business here in Hollywood. The DJI is definitely better with setting on Auto (watched on a 44 inch TV), but I bought the FIMI because all you need to do is change the setting to get equal or better picture than the DJI. Auto is never the way to go. Cheers and thank you for the video!

I own a FIMI 2020 and I am super pleased with it and at half the price of the dji it is amazing value for money. It's not covered in this video however the only thing I struggle to get to work on the FIMI are the tracking features so far they seem to be a bit hit or miss, sometimes they work sometimes not. However all in all I would recommend the FIMI 👍

Thats how most drones in that price range are . The features don't usually work that well . They'd probably be better off leaving some of the features off and upgrading something somewhere else instead in my opinion . Spend the time you save not programming features on better flight control or something .. but i get why they do the features .. new people to drones read that it has all these features drones that cost twice as much have and think they are saving themselves money . Thats why i wound up with the zino pro . I quickly realized im not getting good quality .. dependable features without spending the money for them . The next drone i got was dji and the features work pretty flawlessly.

Tuff to tell between the two... Both have exposure control on the remote while airborne... So the Fimi (maybe a tad overexposed) and Air 2 (maybe a tad underexposed) could have been easily adjusted. For my money, buy the Fimi ❤️

Not really tough, Fimi was unfortunately overexposed, and oversaturated, you can even see dithering artifacts on the red shirt. Maybe that could be compensated by tweaking exposure and color settings, but this video didn't cover that.

I have a Fimi 2020 and a Mavic Mini. Both with great cameras. I've got less than 900.00 spent in both. I would love to have the Mavic air 2 but having two drones with great cameras for the price of the Mavic air 2 just made more sense.

As much as de DJI looks better in this video, you can still bring the exposure and contrast settings manually down on the FIMI and still get excellent results with its HEVC codec and 100mbits of data. The air 2 is still overpriced.

Great video Cap. Thanks for putting it up. In making my comments I am assuming that you did not have an ND filter on either drone. On the side by side at prox 5:20 in the video, the colors on the MA2 seemed a little bit better than the FIMI. The bag in the middle on the MA2 is definitely lime green. On the FIMI it apprears on my screen as a dull white. The trashcans on the MA2 show a hint of light grey, on the FIMI they are white. In the 500% crop comparison at prox 5:36 in the video, your skin tone on the FIMI appears a very washed out white (overexposed), while the MA2 is more true. Assuming my assumption that no ND filters were used, the FIMI could probably have been corrected as to skin tone (and maybe the lime green bag in the middle), by stopping down with an ND filter 8 or so. Maybe even a 16. The grass on the FIMI appears more true. The MA2 seems a tad darker and less true. The wind certainly had an effect on the FIMI. The cropped version especially show a bit of side to side motion whereas the MA2 shows pretty much rock steady. On the fly test flying over the school, starting at prox. 5:50 both drones seemed rock steady in that wind. I preferred the overall colors from the FIMI more than the MA2. The FIMI colors to me, were very accurate, whereas in the MA2 footage, the video seemed just a bit darker (a couple of stops likely) and less appealing to view. In my personal subjective opinion, the FIMI, especially for someone wanting to get into the hobby, or occasional paid project, should certain consider the FIMI as a viable option. The MA2 speaks for itself. I own one, fly one and couldn't be happier with it, but the FIMI is again, a great option for someone breaking into the hobby. Best regards from [e-mail] Florida, USA

I learned a lot about the Mavic Air 2 when I viewed the footage in 4k. I compared it to the Autel Evo 2. Night and day difference. The Fimi has a really good camera. Same camera as the Fimi Palm. Many people do not like the auto in the Fimi because it’s an HD like auto. Great job! Good reviews. I keep coming back. DJI is darker in this comparison.

For the price difference I would take the Fimi and either set the color for vivid or record in flog and post process it.. Or just record in normal color and enhance it in post processing.. You may not have to do any post processing or not select vivid and only turn the EV down a tad with the Fimi, that will darken it and pop the colors a little, as the default colors may be fine but over exposed a little causing it to look a little over exposed..

I've been researching these two drones for a little while now trying to figure out which one makes most sense to buy, however from this and other video reviews it's pretty obvious that the DJI offering just isn't worth at least double the price! Sure it might be superior in certain areas but the fimi is more than adequate for the average user, let's not forget both of these drones are essentially just consumer toys, they are nowhere near professional grade machines that cost thousands i.e the cameras on most decent phones surpass those fitted to these drones. Another plus for the fimi is the non invasive app unlike dji's, also there's no geo fencing that could be problematic for some people. For me the choice is even easier now, plus I won't be quite so worried about damaging or losing it at the price. Great video, thanks😃

It's amazing how well the Fimi actually does. But, as always if anything goes wrong with the drone I think DJI is the safest bet. To me when you get some of these quads from china they tend to be throw always when something goes wrong. Still very impressive from the Fimi for the price. Shoot you can get it right now from the fimi/alibaba site right now for $419 USD.

Took 4 months to get here, but got the FImi at the intro rate of $359, also got the Mavic Mini on sale at Costco with the dome and extra battery for $369; while the Mavic II is super impressive, feel I have the best of both worlds at a discount, the mini is just plain fun and can grab some decent footage as long it's not some epic landscape and is so easy; the Fimi, if you tone down the exposure can give you great footage with some post production.

I've decided to jump in with both feet and buy the Mavic Air 2. Are you telling me, if I buy directly from DJI, there's no extra charges other than the exchange rate to american money?? Very useful video Steve, but I have to disagree with you a bit about the contrast. The Mavic shows a better contrast range. The lime green bag shows the colours much better on the Mavic shots but is blown out on the Fimi. Similarly, shadow detail looks a little better on the Mavic - not surprising considering its higher price. Your shirt looked much more saturated on the Fimi. I think both are great for what they cost, but I would go for the Mavic unless I really couldn't afford the difference. Very useful comparison. Thanks.

For $500, it's not bad! But compared to the $800 Air 2, the video isn't as blown out. And once that data is lost, it can not be recovered. Also flying near the homes, the FIMI had a slight blue tint to the homes and rooftops. If the brightness/contrast, and slight color correcting can be turned down in the Fimi in post or in the Fimi itself, I think it would be hard to tell the difference.

Thank you for this review! Was on the fence to try other camera drones than DJI for some paid commercial projects from time to time. But after watching this review - I think I'll still stick with DJI. Both of them use 3 cell lipo's so it makes you wonder why FIMI cannot maintain a good hover under the same wind conditions.

Just got my fimi 2022. Picture quality rock, stability and built in quality is excellent. Unless you are a beginner get obstacle ovoidence however it is unnecessary because it will not detect trees most of the time.

The colors in the Fimi seemed a lot more vibrant but looking at the backpack or whatever it was at your feet it definitely didn't look lime green. It almost looked white. The DJI got the color perfectly. I almost wonder if the angle and light reflection had something to do with the color being off with the Fimi because when you were actually flying it the colors looked good and like I said vibrant. I am not a professional photographer nor have I played one on TV but I think the Fimi would suit me fine for a few hundred bucks less.

I got the FIMI but I will tell you it completely loses focus and gets tons of jello in the video when the temperature drops below freezing. You can fix it but you have to pry off the lens cover and twist the focus a couple mm clockwise. Theres a video on youtube that shows how to do it. The fix does work.

Nothing better than to see a side by side comparison of the videos...I realize that the point of the video was to show the picture quality right out of the box with no adjustments...but I suspect that one could make some simple adjustments via the drone software that would have further improved the picture on both drones...perhaps making them even more similar. I think the Fimi is more than good enough for the vast majority of the people . Save $400 and buy some extra batteries for the Fimi...they are much cheaper (1/2 the price) than the MA2's batteries.

I only paid £340.00 for my Fimi X8 SE 2020 from Banggood. The DJI Mavic Air 2 retails at £779.00. That's a big difference for not a great deal more drone. If you have £800.00 spare, then go for the Mavic Air 2, it always comes down to how much you want to spend.

For the hobbiest, the FIMI wins out. But, the Mavic has so many more advantages (you get what you pay for), especially the software and smoothness on a windy day. Both drones can be adjusted in post, so that shouldn't be an issue. Once again, Capt'n, you presented a well-informed review. I'll vote for you when the KZbin Drone reviewer's hall of fame voting begins. :-)

The price is good on the Fimi but if I’m going to spend $500 on a drone then, $300 more for an amazing, far better drone is well worth it. So many drones out there to compare. There is a clear difference in exposure between the X8 SE 2020 and the Mavic Air 2: the Fimi exposes 'lighter' compared to the Dji. Because of that, the electric green of Captain's backpack is almost gone but registers clearly in the MA2 footage. Think the Fimi could do with a slight (-0.3EV) underexposure to compensate this. But in different circumstances this might be different :-)

I would say the fimi is for the the people that can't afford a mavic Air 2, and are willing to sacrifice some features for the price, I don't think there in the same bracket but the it's okay for the price none the less.

Thanks for the great video. For the price, the FIMI X8 is great. But, I would rather save the extra money for the Mavic. I much preferred the video quality of the Mavic. It looked less processed to my eye. It also seemed to hold the horizon a lot better. Throw in the extra capabilities and Mavic wins for me. But, for the price it should.

Hey there! Great comparison again. Is there a test card / sheet available? I'm thinking it may have to be fairly large ((8' x 4'), something to set a standard with black and white letters, numbers of various sizes, like those for an opticians test. Some shapes in contrasting colours and diametrical sizes maybe? What are your thoughts? Though a little ambitious and maybe impractical for you to lug around.

I really like the mavic 2 to fimi 2020 in terms of true colors fimi has high contrast. For flying stability I think they are almost the same. For beginner budget drone I'll go for FIMI it's excellent. Good job bro stay safe. 🛀💪👌🖐

The Fimi looked a lot over exposed very bright indeed couldn't see the details in your face as good as A2. I think you can do a lot more in post to make the image look better in A2 than you can with Fimi./ for reliability and durability the A2 is much the best. Well done Captain. 👍😀

I would get the FIMI X8 SE 2020 due to the price. The only difference I seen in the video is the Mavic was darker with more contrast. Hopefully that can be adjusted on the FIMI X8 SE 2020.

I agree that the Fimi is great value but the camera and stability of the DJI is much better. As well before purchasing I urge everyone to check out coverage in case of product defects. For that reason alone the value instantly swings to DJI. Any product needing to be shipped overseas and there’s a problem you are “hooped”. DJI Care Refresh, although extra $, definitely provides peace of mind. Plus numerous after market accessories as ND filters. Trust me from a guy who learned his lesson, until better representation of the other drone manufacturers, warranty, after market accessories, and support stay clear. Stick with DJI, Autel, etc. If there’s a problem you are screwed.

With the x8 2022 due out shortly I would love to see how it stacks up to an updated Air 2. Out of the camera on auto, the DJI seems to do a better job. With the gusty conditions the DJI seems to do a better job. So we throw on ND filters, and take the camera out of auto because that is what we do and then throw a LUT at it to color grade in post, and I bet most people could not tell the difference. The 2022 should be able to handle the wind better. How well remains to be seen. Processing for gusty conditions is much more difficult than a straight wind. Both are great, but unless you have this drone for a business I could not see paying the extra cash for those of us on a budget. Also to be honest if I wanted to film a family gathering I probably wouldn't use a hovering drone. I would put my IPhone on a light stand to get it up a littler higher and let it film that way. Drones are great for cinematic movement. Getting perspectives we don't usually see. Flying off the edge of a water fall where your audience gasps, or reveling the rolling wheat fields in a pan up gimble movement. In these cases I think both drones will do great.

Good test in the wind and the FIMI is clearly struggling to maintain a stable picture BUT it is a lot cheaper. I have an Air 2 flymore myself (a bit more than $800) and am amazed at its power and capabilities, it is an amazingly powerful drone. For me, there simply is no comparison but that purely because of my experience with the Air 2 and the know how about it. I tell you one thing though, the FIMI video, for me, is sharper but that I would say is due to over exposure? The reason I go down heavily on the air 2 side is simple. If you get the U3 card into it, get out and fly, the quality of the footage is far superior. The Air 2 has no issues flying 2km away if you wanted and are brave enough. The speed and power is at a professional level. It comes down to what you want I suppose. A cheaper toy drone or a more expensive semi pro/pro drone? I know TV channels now own the Air 2 and Pro 2 for portable coverage, that should tell you the quality involved. My first ever flight with the Air 2 impressed me greatly! I have now mastered a lot of the settings and movements as they were just a little too sharp in this first flight. Great video. The x8 is a bit more blurred on the selfie shots like the quality is set lower. Is the NAVI app quality set to high, as there seems to be a bug where it keeps reverting back to medium. The x8 does seem to over expose in the sun, I would like to get an ND filter with lower shutter speed to see if I can neutralize that high contrast.

O.K. Steve... My two cents..... Both drones do a respectable job with color, though the FIMI is a just a touch over exposed. Drop the f stop by a third, and it would be a bit better. MA2, is it's usual a bit darker in exposure (with slightly more contrast). Open the f stop a third, and it would be better. If you could combine the two drone images together, it would look really good. Probably dead nuts on. I would agree with many of the comments below regarding the FIMI - for the price, you get an acceptable image. Thanks for the comparison. [ Saw on Ooopps! on DJI' side of the house on 51 Drones yesterday, regarding an App Firmware update for the MA2. It will allow us to do the same adjustments with the Gimbal, that we can we the 2Pro, et al. Currently the Firmware App is 1.1.15. The update is 1.1.16. DJI seemed to have quickly pulled the update app for some reason. Checked my MA2 controller, and is still the 1.1.15 version. Guess we have some to look forward to.]

Nice review as always Steve. A little unfair. The Mavic Air2 is clearly a better drone. The Mavic Mini would be a closer comparison to the Fimi x8 even though the Mini’s camera has been crippled to 2.7k. Aside from that the Fimi was impressive even though it lost the comparison because it was over exposed and was using a more contrasty profile with more colour saturation as well. DJI video looked more natural.

I know the video would be more complicated but I'd really have wanted to see log profile on FIMI and exposure compensation to see if the overexposure and saturation could be tamed down a little and brought a little bit closer to the mavic air 2 which is a nice but REALLY overpriced drone IMO. I'm definitely going for dji next drone. I got 2 fimi 2022, both with gimbal problems and bad support services from fimi. Still can't get the gimbal to stop tilting when look down. Dju got a store In sweden and loads of parts and troubleshooting. Really disappointing on fimi and there products.

Actually I’m impressed with the FIMI. At the beginning of your vlog my color preference was towards the”realistic “ color of the FIMI. What?? Cropping in, flight, all in all the FIMI is worth every penny. But for $300 more you can have more options 4K60 but you have codec.265 which unfortunately a deal breaker for me. I am assuming the FIMI shoots in.264 since it’s only 4K30. You might want to explain the diff.bespe iallt if someone is buying based on $$ alone.

Have you updated the X8 to the latest firmware? Idaho Quadcopter flew the X8 before and after updating the firmware. The after results were a little better but still not that great.
