Fimi X8 SE 2020 First Flight and First Impressions

Excellent first look, and first flight, very thorough. I have both the 2018 and 2020 versions of this drone and have never been able to solve the tilted horizon issue. There is a manual adjustment, however, I've not had any consistent success with it. I also noticed that your video off the SD card gradually fell behind (out of sync) with your screen recording. I have the same issue with the 2020 version, but not the 2018. It is a lot of drone for the money for sure. Thank you again for a great review!

There's an option in the settings to adjust the horizon and calibrate the gimbal. Good video. Also, you can change the color settings from General to something like Vivid. Under General some people were complaining about a blue tint but changing to vivid or F.Log gets rid of that.

Had mine since early may, love it lots of flight hours on her now. Gimbal tilt and random erratic gimbal movements are the only drawbacks

Yeah it’s a pretty solid drawing for the price, I was quite impressed. Hopefully they can address the gimbal tilt with a firmware update. I’ve had other girls in the past with similar issues and they were corrected

@@AirPhotography a quick turn usually correct the tilt problem with the Fimi2020. Mine is the previous version 2018 which I received on 5 Feb 2019. This drone is still excellent value for the price . Mine have done hundreds of flights now and it still going strong.

Same deal with mine and the Gimbal Tilt, mine isn't too terrible but if it's not fixed soon I'll probably sell off this unit and buy an Autel Evo 2 in the spring.

I would say imo the styling of the drone, the grill if you will is a designed look of the front end of the drone, more than I would jump straight to assuming they're trying to mislead anyone about anti collision sensors. The drones spec sheet is very detailed so anyone taking a serious look at it to begin with will know that's the look of the drone.

It's almost between a Mavic Air2 and a Mini, for the price of a Mini, with some extra goodies thrown in. Which that's what is nice about the high end quadcopter market, things begin to trickle down. My first actual drone was a Holy Stone HS700, and something like that 5 years ago would've been priced out of most people's budget. Yeah looks like the gimbal needs calibration. There is quite a delay between recording and what the viewfinder sees which isn't really a big deal. The drone doesn't seem to compensate for the wind very well either. But overall, not bad at all, especially for the price.

Do you own one? I don't think so. I must be too lucky then, because mine has none of the mentioned drawbacks. It is a beast. Fast, stable, long and smooth flights and videos, with almost no delay at all. I love it.

The one I got had appallingly bad horizon issues which I've posted to KZbin. I sent it back to FIMI and they say it's been repaired and is on it's way back. We'll see how it goes. Other than that, the drone has a lot going for it. I ordered it early May though. If I knew I'd still be waiting for a functional unit I probably would have spent a bit more elsewhere.

Do you know that you can align the gimbal on the configurations menu? You can tweak a lot of things, including gimbal horizon alignment. With just a few minutes mine became a marvel, I love it.

When you notice horizon tilt, try hovering, then flying backwards, turning gimbal to each and see if the horizon issue goes away. If so, it's a mechanical design issue. Maybe the gimbal mounts are too soft, and air pressure against the camera deforms them? Besides, the air quality is very poor in industrial areas of China. No horizon, no problem. Maybe the mfg didn't notice the issue before production? -Just a thought.

$499 where? I just got mine in the US from Amazon for $425 and it's on Banggood for around $350. I love mine but it needs some improvements in the camera. Some have gimbal level issues but so far after 9 days I'm good. Color balance is my main complaint but I couldn't afford a Mavic soni make do.

I’ve actually been flying it quite a bit I just upgraded the camera on it to the 6K and I’ve been doing some tests with it. Pretty good quality but the drone itself has a few quirks but nothing too serious

To be able to download the latest firmware update you will need to install a formatted SD card. You can purchase a gimbal guard online for less than $5. I look forward to your in-depth reviews. Correct, a SD card installed is needed to update the firmware.....actually very usefull. Some FW releases in the 2018 model were crap, then just remove the SD card till a better fw version is available. Still love my Fimi-x8-se. 2018 model.

I have had this drone for 2 months now and it has been great. DJI drones suck, unless you live in the country side, desert or farm lands, due to,their stupid restricted air space restrictions. Your car does not turn off when you get to a stop sign. It should be the responsibility of the pilot. I have 12 acres 20 minutes outside a major city and I could not fly the DJI drone I had to return, due to their stupid restricted air space restrictions.

Just curious what is the build date of the drone? I have the 2020 model and its build date is 07/2020 and there does not appear to be any tilt.

Hello everyone, I have two questions: 1. Could someone tell me what the WiFi/RC switch does? This is placed next to the SD card slot. 2. How can I download the videos I am recording with it without removing the SD card? I tried to download them from the gallery option that is placed in the Navi application but the videos and photos are downloaded in 480p.

It depends what country you’re in. Here in Canada yes because it weighs over 250 g it needs to be registered and you need a certificate to fly. So depending on what country you’re from the regulations will be different

In the UK it has to be registered, costs £9.00 with an easy test online. I have the 2018 and just received the 2020 today so I am considering making a short video myself explaining the various flight modes. What do you use to record your phone screen?
