ive been playing on switch (exclusively) since JD2018 and camera scoring actually made me realise how LAZY i had gotten. i could easily megastar 99% of songs with the joycon because I knew how to. doit, going back to camera scoring made me realise how many corners I was cutting and tbh it was really nice having to fully perform a map again :))

I guess it may just be a me thing, but it definitely wasn't the same for me. My one real critique is that we should be able to see what the camera sees of us, because I wasn't sure why, but I think that a lot of my moves weren't registering because my hands just kept going out of frame even though I'm literally doing it perfectly (This is Wasabi, btw) Either way, I can't wait to see what else they do with this

I think it is really accurate. There’s definitely a couple things I don’t like, such as not being able to see the camera range and whether you lose tracking at some point since I couldn’t really tell. I also wish it was compatible with more than one person since I play with my partner a lot, hopefully that’ll change in the future tho. Other than those two things I really enjoyed trying it out. Definitely better than I expected. The JD team nailed it!

i remember seeing a video of Dina reacting to the Just Dance 2024 with Matthew Tomkinson, the creative director of Just Dance, I remember that he said that they were working on a camera. But I never expected this. I thought they were going to create a camera like a kinnet that costed more that a game. Never expecting something this good. BRAVO TO THE JUST DANCE TEAM. This is so exciting! I can't wait for the Android version. I bought a wrist strap a few months ago, but it sits diagonally on my wrist. So after each song, to find a new one without taking it off, right is left, left is right up is down, down is left.... oye 😵‍💫

I know right? This was probably one of the most anticipated features BY EVERYONE (almost everyone I watch on Twitch wanted it) so the fact they did so well in this, justifies how long it took. And the fact the game doesn't even crash regularly on it is even greater. Ubi's been hated a lot over the year for how slow JD's been developing, and this deserves a big praise because of the benefit it represents for the whole game.

Way to go, Just Dance team! I'll admit though, I'm still a little skeptical about how the Android port is going to go. All iPhones past 12 have started including lidar in their camera technology (since Apple is investing more heavily in AR/MR technology), which is kind of a more advanced version of the technology used by the Kinect. At this time (to my knowledge), no Android phones have this. I have a feeling Apple vs Android scoring might be akin to Kinect vs PS4 Camera scoring. And all of us that have ever played with the PS4 camera know she... could be a little temperamental, to say the least. I hope people will understand (if this even is the case), that it's a hardware limitation and not Ubisoft pooping out on us Android software peasants. EDIT: I was corrected below, they're not using the TrueDepth sensor on the iPhone at all and instead are doing AI depth calculation. Which is all the more impressive that it's working so well without the depth sensors, my faith is renewed!

Lidar is not used here. Just dance just uses the selfie cam. And lidar is on the back.

@@preyingshark4878 It's on both. The selfie camera is a TrueDepth camera, which is also a type of lidar camera. That's why the memojis and things work so well.

Looking more into the APIs I see that the AV capture is handled differently from the depth capture (which looking back, makes sense since it would bloat video/streaming to send that extra data if it's not needed). I agree I will be eager to try it out. Not only they will have to do 1 software for phones with different specs of cameras also phones with different UI's For one I have the s22 ultra and the camera... the camera fits your head and that's it. Idk if it's a software lock or if the actual camera isn't capable of capturing more. Which isn't normally a problem but when you are dancing all over, I could see one going out of frame more than staying in frame. Idk they did an excellent job with the phone controller, so it might be a similar situation here

I was in a Just Dance tournament at MAGFest over the weekend. I got 2nd place (yay!) but only lost because a guy who has no passion for Just Dance was shaking the Joy-Con just enough to get the points. The final round was a best of 3 of extreme songs - he certainly was not dancing. This guy clearly played enough to know how to score, but was not in the spirit of a true dancer. It was frustrating! Camera scoring would fix all these issues on the Switch!

this kinda changes everything... i downloaded just dance a few weeks ago and the fact i had to dance with my phone in my hand really hurt my hands... and i truely questioned the validity of the scoring i felt kinda scammed because the whole point of games like this is to SEE your dancing the phone controller is all about if your screen is facing the same direction of the palm AT ALL TIMES... and without glueing it to your hands thats impossible IM SO GLAD theyre doing this- because i will consider playing again the battery draining is still concerning but its also stunning that i dont have to buy a console branded camera that probly costs more than the game

Make sure your Just Dance game and controller are updated to the latest version. When you choose a song, it’ll prompt you on your phone to choose to use the camera mode or the classic hand scoring. It’ll then give you further instructions from there. Only a couple single player maps are available with camera scoring- as it’s a beta. There’s a little camera icon next to each map on the menu that indicates whether or not a song has camera scoring or not.

The only problem now is having to pick up and put down your phone every time you start a song to confirm you want to use the Camera Controller - you should be able to use the joy con to confirm your using your phone as a Camera Controller

Havent wathed the video, but just sharing about an idea i had YEARS ago where what if they could use the iphone's face id technology or the 3d camera at the back of the pro iphones (since it uses basically ir blasting to project dots like the kinect) to track the movement. Additionally, for the ipad pros, you could literally just install just dance and play immediately since 1. It has a huge screen already and 2. It also uses face id technology, meaning the dot projection

I know this isn't related at all to the video, but I hada question related to you being a coach for JD24. When doing the dance, obviously there were different costumes, but did you have to dance the routine in sections, and change into each costume for each bit, or was it all done in one costume and then edited? Love the content btw :)

I tried it last night but it didn’t even pick up a score at all when I played playground 😪 and as for phone playing for everyone I’d recommend getting a strong phone case then attaching a wrist strap to it , helps a lot and no need to worry about yeeting your phone !

i've heard the bug of scores not showing up is when you have an old version of the map downloaded offline? if you delete it and re-download the songs, hopefully it works for you ;-;

Actually it doesn’t. It only uses the selfie camera, not the Face ID TrueDepth sensor. Instead, they use AI to determine Depth.

I really hope they launch eventually an acessory for Just Dance but phones are good too, especially if they can make it work with any camera in any phone, not just iPhones. Because let's be real here: In some countries an iPhone 13 costs Seven times more than what it does in the US, so anyone saying: Oh yay it's not a 300USD camera for one system. Yes it is not, but in some countries is AS expensive if not more than a kinect ever was, so there's that. And second, because the front Camera I HAVE on my Xiaomi Note 12 which is an entry phone is better than my PS Camera for my PS4. Just saying. I hope they nail it, because the death of Kinect was a huge hit for Just Dance, and the choice of moving towards last gen consoles ONLY was a big hit on a lot of people who still has a Playstation 4 and not a 5. But anyway, let's hope this comes and works nicely.
