Your airport story was funny. It reminded me of a trip to Tokyo where I had to change planes to fly to Fukuoka. I was told at the information desk to get on bus #2 and it would take me to the terminal. I got on the bus, watched it depart the airport, and then drove around town before returning to the same place I got on. I then ran with all of my luggage in hand where I barely made my connecting flight on time.

Im so sick of seeing the same KZbinr/Influencer personality get copied and pasted and hearing the same high pitched semi yelling voices telling the same type of "jokes" over and over again. Its refreshing seeing someone make high-quality content with a completely unique presentation and no social media influencer exaggeration for views and retention.

Speaking of dim lenses, consider Canon's "RF600mm F11 IS STM". No, f11 is not a joke, it is really an f11 lens. This lens is for those who would like to imagine what life would be like if we all lived in caves and never emerged. Enjoy your 32000 ISO setting. The ten second exposures will force us to kill, stuff, and mount anything we want to film. But hey, a revival of the taxidermy profession. If we want it to move, we can do the "claymation" sort of thingy.

When I watch a Zoomer take a hi-res photo, process it and then post it to social media in less than 20 seconds I feel like a dinosaur. For the same results I'm carrying a camera thats too big for a pocket, then accessing and booting up my laptop (after I get home) and transferring the file from the sd card, processing in DxO photolab and then posting. All the while I'm carrying a phone anyway. The only advantages of using a camera now are dynamic range and optical zoom quality, but phones are catching up because that's where the money is

I have no idea how long it takes to develop a lens, but it's also not advantageous for them to release everything at once and then nothing for 2-3 years. If *insert camera brand* releases 6 lenses at the same time, people talk about them once, specialty press publishes one article, reviewers do one video etc. then they are "forgotten" until the next release. If they release one lens now, another in 6 months and so on, they are in the news cycle much more often; that's free advertising and it drives sales.

The lack of personality applies to totl lenses, like Sony GM or Sigma Art. It's because they have too many glass elements to correct for every optical defect. This causes the image to look clean, sharp and flat across the frame, i.e. clinical. Older lenses or cheaper lenses aren't so corrected and they have more character.

The problem is online lens testing reviews that pick out all optical flaws in new lenses. It makes it difficult to make and sell old-school lenses. The old-school lenses were designed for film or low-resolution digital sensors that were much more forgiving than modern sensors.

@@definingslawek4731 Film is more forgiving of optical defects than digital sensors. Large digital highres sensors are very revealing of optical flaws, so that's when the design philosophy for lenses changed to large lenses with many corrective elements.

It's like they all make lenses randomly, measure them after the fact, then name them based on whatever it turns out to be. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason or obvious transitions. Nikon's two kit lenses make sense, then they leave you hanging at 250. They're like if you want more zoom than the naked eye, gonna have to pony up more than the entire two lens kit, they didn't continue the kit lenses into actual zoom range and the teleconverters don't work with the kit lenses.

Sometimes I really love this show you put on. Sony actually inherited a tonne of technology when they acquired Minolta Konica in 2006. Minolta and Konica merged in 2003. Konica has a history of fantastic optics I think prior to mirrorless the deciding factor that krippled the adaption of Konica glass was it's flange distance. It has begun to gain popularity as people discover it's exceptional quality adapting to mirrorless. I'm digressing from my initial point that Sony does have a wealth of technology in their inherited archives. I think the biggest kick in the balls for camera companies has been cell phones. The Money these companies have lost in the consumer market has increased the cost of photo/video centric tools for professionals and advanced enthusiasts. Sony has stayed strong because they are a big player in the digital everything market with their sensor production. That Canon 50 f1.4 has very nice glass, it is actually sharper over all than the 50 f1.2L but yes the focuss failure issue is real, I know you will dissagree and I respect and agree with your criticisms but Sigma has a much better constructed 50 f1.4. I have a couple Sigma lenses that are actually very good lenses, there are minor issues I could pick at. It's funny how accurate you are with some of your analogies for the camera industry, I think the truth is these are massive corporations that have divissions that compete amongst themselves and there are cycles they go through where technology gets exploited to meet corporate profits, to fund developement, then they market products and if there isn't enough base sales the price of the best equipment goes up and they eliminate the middle ground. They will keep cheaper product lines around to fill the budget sales segment, but they hold out on the middle market in fear of impacting sales of their Flagship and professional lines, or withold updates to prompt sales of their new offerings. I know some professionals actually enjoy the exclusivity or prestige of tools not everyone has or can afford. Sony for a while was really packing a lot in their offerings, they still do, but it comes at a price. I'm hoping Canon will start a trend towards more affordable equipment with greater utility there original 7D was a killer camera when it came out and offered allot for the price, al be it a crop sensor. technology has outpaced it's utility for video today but they did exceptionally well with that Camera, maybe the R8 or something like it could be their next 7D? I would love to see them release an "almost perfect" camera that would push the industry to shift gears back toward providing better more versatile equipment with pro-features for advanced users who really could make fantastic use of it. Ultimately, satisfied customers sharing their love for these tools and the increadible work possible with them, have always been their best Ambassadors.

We're going to read a footnote to the news someday (KZbinr became a greasespot on the pavement today when through no fault of his own, his electric scooter was re-kitted by a confluence of bus/parked car/cross traffic and boom extended DJI III on a busy Toronto street this afternoon....more at 11) More guts than I have riding that thing all over. BTW, Nikon isn't doing 1.4 primes but are doing 1.2s in the S line and leaving the 1.4s to their "partners"....which is why I still drive DSLRs and "old" glass, some of it really old, older than you, older than your mom.

And I'll clarify, I don't even go for a creative look in edit. I just color manage it in Resolve, fuckall if I'm going to touch anything in the color page. The color page scares me. But I'm psychotic enough to be saving for the gmaster 14mm f1.4.

If I can get this at f3.5 on a 28-70 blegh kit quality lens. I think it all just depends on the use case, I guess.

Canon's refusal to populate the enthusiast range of the RF system (can I get a weather sealed f/1.4 prime?) caused me to leave the system a couple years ago. I suspect they still haven't noticed my absence. The 16/24/50 cheap primes are a little trashy. The 35 1.8 is decent though. In general, it seems like lens manufacturers are starting to rely way too much on in-camera corrections, which is pretty much always going to result in poor IQ in the corners.

After using all kinds of cameras and lens in my opinion the best future camera will be A bridge camera with MFT sensor, 24-600mm built in lens with nano optics, IBIS, lens OIS, computational sensor, wifi, sim card, exposure bracketing using partial sensor with in camera processing like smartphones including cloud processing, pixel shift technology, global shutter, film simulation and AI.

I switched to Sony from Canon during their 2nd gens. I still don't own any Sony glass...I still rock old ef L primes and vintage stuff. Seems counterintuitive to most but i did it for the perks of mirrorless and wanted that R resolution and DR. I have no issues with MF. Most of Sony's glass I've tried just seems meh and over priced. My voightlander collection is growing. I'm regretting selling my Canon 400 prime thinking Sony would eventually make something i can afford... I'm not really holding my breath anymore.

Hilarious rant. I'm waiting for Sony to bring out the RX10 Mark V superzoom bridge camera, which will be even more overpriced. The Mark IV is like 6 years old! The camera industry moves at a snails pace. As long as the current model is still selling, companies ars not compelled to update.

Canon was the best at one time, back in the CCD days. Now I see no point to their existence.

There was no real difference in the CCD days, except that Canon had a massive brand recognition advantage. Minolta and Sony made better CCD cameras but most people hadn't heard of them back then.

@@audioupgrades Yes sir I Nikon user early on but eventually yielded and was early digital adopter in Canon. I now have ~$40K + in expensive bodies/lenses and feel pretty much stuck. Probably not unlike many many other picture-taking folk, we will drive the wheels off of our current equipment and allow ourselves to be FORCED into deep end of pool. It's the resulting picture... Not the equipment or so I'm told. We endeavor to persevere 🎥

@@flyingping If you have a good system it's better to keep it. Changing systems is expensive, time-consuming, frustrating and pointless because you'll still take the same kind of pictures at the end of it
