Good swing analysis Mr Whittaker. I would like to see the evoulution of the golf swing with comparisons of what professional golfers did in the past (Hogan, Jones, Sneed) to what pro players do now (Rose, Fowler, D. Johnston).

Bobby Jones showed us this downswing move almost a hundred years ago. Everyone discarded his technique. It was obviously still relevant regardless of the hickory shafts. Now everyone is "wise". I thought I might do a Cameron Champ swing analysis, after all everyone else is doing it to get views. I might stick to his putter swing and entitle it "Cameron Champ" swing analysis" and see what happens. Lol

never seen someone holding his lag like him.. It was literaly one click of your mouse, before his club head moved from knee height to impact position. Crazy.

As ever Dan a great swing analysis, many thanks. What I find so amazing is that he is so balanced whilst generating so much clubhead speed! I have seen a few ultra low speed vids of his swing and his hip separation, his elbow position and left ankle bowing in the downswing is amazing! I just hope that he isn't putting too much stress on his lower back, elbow and ankles and doesn't end up crippling himself as Tiger did.

Do some practice swings at full speed where you start the club about two feet ahead of the ball and take it back from there. Then try it with the ball. Transforms my sequencing and hip turn.

What shaft does Champ use? His miss or late hits must be to the right as his body has opened up soo much - yet to see enough of him to spot his miss...impressive ball speed - anyone who can create this much force deserves the reward of 340 yards - hope his body can maintain long into his late 40's - only risk is disc wear I guess?
@ShallowedOutGolf5 жыл бұрын
It’s almost an over the top look but he keeps his center of mass in the club behind him the entire swing. You can even see the clubhead pass his hands before impact. Impressive! The key is keeping the lead side of the pelvis low and getting it out of the way.

Love this breakdown. Been working with my coach to add some of his elements into my swing, being young athletic like him (thankfully!). Collapsing the lead leg ever so slightly and narrowing my stance has definitely been an adjustment as far as feel goes, but definitely frees up the hips and shoulders to turn more. Working on creating the "lag"!
@johnflorio30523 жыл бұрын
It looks to me like Cameron Champ turns his rib cage and core on the backswing while his shoulders just glide along. It’s such a storage of power!

My mental swing key for lag and separation is "Move the clubhead with the body." It works. Try it.

I've been golfing for 30 years and for the past 6 months I've been working on creating lag. For me, it is the hardest thing to do. It's driving me crazy.
@wallstreetoneil2 жыл бұрын
look at Matt Wolff's swing, and then look at an elite tennis player's looping topspin tennis forehand, and then re-look at the transition move in Cameron's down-the-line transition move. What you will 'see' is the same looping/right-wrist-loading action - that is the definition of increasing lag which increases stored power. Don't look to increase lag specifically - but look instead to massively increase the down-cock loading, of your right wrist into 'forced' massive extension/ left-wrist-forced-bowing, in transition, like you see Champ, Keopka, DJ, Zalatoris, Morikawa, Hovland, etc. It's the opposite of cupping in transition - you must force the right wrist, by creating a down-cock mini-loop, like a tennis player, and Cameron Champ, into compressed extension - and it will all unload at impact. 99% of 'pros' that post videos on what Champ and other long hitters actually do, either can't see it, or can't actually explain what it is that they do. Obviously, everything else he does aids in delivering at the critical moment this stored power, but this is where the magic 'extra' power source comes from - and because 'teachers' themselves can't do it, they mostly miss this vital ingredient. It is 'sort-of' explained in the step-forward-loading drill, but the real key is the way in which the wrists have to load in the transition (left wrist bowed more/right wrist extended more) - the 'more' being the KEY f-ing ingredient.

The position at 4.13 on the right is Bradley Hughes all day long, his signature move , hands away from the body.
@pacmanjones56254 жыл бұрын
Bradley Hughes is the best teacher on the internet. Champ/Sergio probably have the two most incredible lags in modern golf, and achieved by their immaculate ability to shallow the club and sustain lag pressure well beyone the strike. With how much right wrist cock he retains through and beyond the strike is absolutely amazing, up there with Hogan in that regard
@iiZAPPx6 жыл бұрын
blows my mind how he can retain that much lag and still keep his body in a good position where he isnt using too much axis tilt. Youd think that with that much lag he would be compensating somewhere to not hit as far down on the ball. I would THINK that he would be inaccurate. Crazy athlete

People don't realize that this is ls like a young MLB pitcher. He throws 102 mph fast balls and is only 6 feet 180,but as usual it's never sustainable! Injury occurs or simply aging happens so He stays very good, adapts and becomes a solid player. This is like champ he will keep doing this for a few years give or take until something gives and he has to swing more like a classic approach. Either way he is going to win big with this swing maybe some majors,Like a U.S Open until he has to change down the road and not be as long but still very good it happens to all power guys like this.

Disappointed that DW didnt draw comparison of Cameron Champs' golf swing with Ben Hogan. IMO, they both continue BS (clubhead continues moving down) while lower body begins DS. Through impact they both are LEVEL LEFT? as DW described so well in the, Ben Hogan Analysis through the years ps://kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2HCZ3yMfaygbNk

With his hands in front of the impact zone before impact it looks like he has a low launch angle. Ball flight seems to validate this. Is this what you are seeing and doesn't it fly in the face of conventional wisdom regarding an upward angle on driver for maximum distance. Clearly it is not an issue for Cameron and it may be that I can't follow the ball far enough to see if it continues to rise.
@banditbaker16756 жыл бұрын
Great point Dawson McNew, his hands certainly look ahead of the Ball just before impact. I haven't seen his numbers but I do suspect that he is hitting slightly down on the Ball with his driver. He can do this because of his very high clubhead speed (as do a number of the Very Big Hitters). This will help him control his launch angles and keep his Spin rate down. But be careful, unless you have a clubhead speed in the 120+mph bracket hitting down won't work for you. Low/Average clubhead speed Golfers need to hit up on the Ball to optimise their launch and spin numbers for Max distance and control.
@barebarekun1616 жыл бұрын
Yep even with his low launch it still spins well over 2500 rpm that's too high even for someone swing that fast but then again that high speed spin number are needed to keep his low launch in fairways so it wouldn't roll as far. I guess it worked for him average golfer should stick to hitting up.
@EdReed20DB2 жыл бұрын
Champ hits down on it about 1-2°, launches around 7-8°, and spins it around 2600rpm with a typical apex of 100'. He likes to hit hit it low like that for accuracy. He knows he could hit up on it to launch it higher and reduce spin to hit it farther, but at 195mph ball speed he still regularly leads the tour in distance while optimizing for accuracy instead of distance.

Impressive but long story short he will slow down eventually to keep on winning. All those who were the longest(Finau,DJ, Bubba, Mullinax, Woods[young]) prior to him showing up generated similar ball speed/swing speeds.....what is remarkable about this young man is how relaxed he looks doing it!

Nobody in the last 20 years have put up numbers like this. He averaged 129 mph the one week...that's averaged!!! Those other guys you mentioned ..129mph may be one of there highs. That's a big difference.
@LesPaulBJJ6 жыл бұрын
O. G. This IS him slowed down. Watch him play and it becomes clear he rarely plays a "full" shot. His driver is a safe low cut that carries 320+ and his touch with short clubs is insane. Champ isn't stepping up and swinging like a long drive competitor. He's already doing what you're suggesting. He doesn't NEED to dial it back any further.
