Internet personality / Vine star Cameron Dallas has joined the cast of MEAN GIRLS THE MUSICAL on Broadway for a limited engagement. After hearing stories and audios: hate this. He can't sing, routinely forgets his lines and doesn't improv so Erika ALWAYS picks them up, and apparently just occasionally doesn't sing in songs at all? When they cast Dove Cameron in Light at the Piazza I was fine with it, because I knew Dove could do all the role required, and she did, it's no different than casting a broadway actor, but they cast someone who doesn't have what it takes here.

I feel like I would be on board if he had more theatre training. Take Colleen Ballinger in Waitress for example. She had a lot of training, and she killed it! Just because someone is a decent singer/actor, does not mean that they belong on a Broadway stage when there are so many better, professional people who have been waiting their whole lives for a shot on Broadway who deserve it.

Here’s my thing with stunt casting: I have no problem with it as long as the person can handle the role. There’s so many celebrities that have many different talents, and it’s nice to see them show off those different talents. BUT it does bother me when someone who isn’t qualified gets the role just because they can bring in money.

i personally don’t think stunt casting is bad, as long as it doesn’t lower the quality of the show. mean girls just doesn’t seem like cameron’s show. especially since he’s had little to no broadway training, it’s gonna be especially hard for him to put on a broadway level show, so i don’t think that casting him right now was really worth it.

cherfae I do sort of agree. I used to be a huge stan of panic, but I found out Brendon said some pretty bad things. He doesn’t usually say those types of things, and he does seem to have matured a little and gotten more impulse control. Aside from that, I do agree that he has an angelic voice.

I totally respect him for going and doing something like this because it’s so difficult but what really makes me angry is the way he’s treating the other actors. From what I saw on his Instagram story with grey he really isn’t super considerate to them and I don’t know if he really realizes how hard they all had to work to get to where they are. I’ve also been wondering what he could’ve done in an audition room that would make the team say aha yes Cameron besides the financial aspect.

Honestly, a hit or miss when it comes to this kind of topic. I will use Colleen B. for example cause she has the talent, background, etc which is really fantastic for getting people to come to a show like Waitress. Yes, the whole "but they are from social media!!!" is kinda hard to swallow for theatre people like us especially with Cameron. I only hope that whatever situation MG might/may be in financially, that this may help them out in someway or another!

I feel like it was a move to bring in the younger audience that knows him. I feel like this will make stage door a nightmare like with Colleen with waitress. I am going in February and it happens to be his last week when I go. I will say I am disappointed that they cast someone who has a limited singing ability and that they had to remove some lines from songs leaving a hole in someone gets hurt. People are saying that his acting is improving which is nice but his singing hasn't. Could they have just had the swing take over for him instead the entire time? probably.

Chloe Jarvis His energy and acting is actually pretty great, I can tell he loved his role. His singing however... It needs work. I was cringing when he joined in More is Better. But I believe they took more lines away from him; He doesn’t sing at all in Someone Gets Hurt. It didn’t ruin it for me at all, especially since everyone else is amazing, but it did get awkward at times. Hopefully he’s better for you though^^

Means girls got some stuff right and some not. The orignal was amazing but when I went to see it, Cady, Aaron and Karen were all played by understudies, and this was after Regina and gretchen had already been replaced. So I only got to see Janice and Damien as originally cast members (thought they were amazing and tbh the best 2 to see). Anyways it was frustrating since I paid so much to see the show that I got stuck with so many understudies.

I mean, I agree, however it's important to know that understudies are also super talented and they worked hard to get there we just feel like we're "stuck with them" because we don't now who they are. I honestly like it better going into a show not knowing who the cast is so I get past that. (look at renee rapp and Presley Ryan. if they didn't have such a social media presence, there's no way that many people would love them and be excited about seeing them)

he’s a terrible singer and no matter what their celebrity status EVERYONE should be going through the exact same audition process and if there are exceptions it should only be done for experienced actors

Ooh I'm so glad you made this video! Let's just say I have some thoughts-I just feel like he only got the role because of his popularity and fame, not because of his talent. I'm not super familiar with him, but I've heard he uses a lot of autotune. And yeah like you said, he doesn't have any musical theatre experience (that I know of) I just feel like he shouldn't have gotten the role when there's so many people who have been working their whole life for a role like this. But I don't know everything that's going on, yeah, I'm sure it has to do with ticket sales-I mean if it keeps one of my favorite shows on Broadway, I support it; I love Mean Girls the musical and the other cast members are all phenomenal. Like I said, I don't know everything that's going on, so I don't wanna judge

They really took the time to cut parts from a BROADWAY MUSICAL just because a boy who plays one of the main characters CAN'T SING?? It's ridiculous, I'm sorry, but this is too shady for all of the struggling artists who are trying to make a living out of this and actually have talent. If you don't have the voice to sing a BROADWAY MUSICAL then I don't know what you're doing. They just said "hey since this guy is hot and has 20 million followers who probably want to see him live, then why not cast him?" It's so unfair I'm really upset about this. I'm not saying he can't necessarily sing, but if he can't sing this, then I don't know what he's doing there. I'm genuinely angry about this. I mean, if he can't sing the Someone Gets Hurt harmonies, which is one of the nuclear parts of the sexual chemistry between Regina and Aaron, then I seriously can't believe how he's there.

I’m going to be honest. I hated him in mean girls, she was awful and he couldn’t sing, he could barely act as well. I think that the people at mean girls were doing a publicity cast and I think they got Cameron mixed up with Shawn Mendez. (Because they look similar and were both on vine.) I think if they would have cast Shawn it would have been SO much better and I think they should try again with Shawn instead.

This is a great opportunity for him but isn't fair. They should have had open auditions or something. Famous people should not be given these opportunities just because they are famous. They should try choose people are a good match for the show and will be dedicated. People shouldn't typically be allowed to go straight to Broadway. People spend their who lives training for things like this. There are some incredibly talented people yet to be on Broadway. This is just my opinion. I don't want to offend anyone.

I actually saw Mean Girls this Saturday, with Cameron as Aaron, and even after the musical ended I overheard people saying they didn’t like his performance. Personally he was very energetic, and his acting was great! His singing was a little off although... I blamed it on him having his first day doing the performance 2 times in a day. But I have to say it didn’t bother me much since Aaron has very little singing parts anyways.🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't seen the show with or without Cameron but Cameron's run is limited, so I really think people are overreacting about this. Its not like he's the replacement for the next year or tour. Aaron is a pretty small role in the show anyway. He definitely has the look and aaron samuels type vibe so if he can make it work I think stunt casting him is an acceptable choice.

I saw Kinky Boots when Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco starring as Charlie Price for a limited run and he actually did a lovely job and you could tell he was having a great time doing it. He is an incredibly talented singer though and that’s what he’s known for. I think having celebrity guests to bring in a wider audience is okay as long as they select people who are capable. If a more talented celebrity wasn’t available and Cameron isn’t up to par, they’d be better off saving their money and casting a trained musical theater actor

The difference between Cameron Dallas being in Mean Girls and Sabrina Carpenter being in it is that Sabrina has had broadway/musical theatre training. Both of them joining the cast might have been stunt casting but so was casting Colleen Ballinger and Todrick Hall in waitress. It WAS stunt casting but with talented and trained actors. Cameron was definitely not ready for broadway and that’s not on him, it’s on the people who cast him.

my problem with this is that most cameron dallas fans (while still extremely popular) aren’t the same little obsessed magcon girls they used to be. personally i feel like most of the girls that brought profit to magcon were tweens / teens using their parents money, but most of them are older now and his momentum died down. i genuinely don’t think he’s brining in a large amount of ticket sales, or at least not enough to risk the quality of the preformance /:

also: jordan fisher- good celebrity for a musical, but he is so much “the cool guy” stereotype, Evan isn’t that. however, he won me over Sabrina Carpenter- idk I didn’t love her as cady, personally. but she could hit the notes, and sometimes that’s all you can ask Brendan Urie- amazing choice. fit the role, hit the notes, plenty of experience. and this is coming from someone who isn’t a fan of panic at the disco dove cameron- beautiful voice with plenty of acting experience. I saw him the first day he premiered and didn’t recognize him at first . The cheering of the crowd should have been a hint . He looks very young when he’s on stage with the other actors . Also vocally he’s not at the same level as the other cast but he is pretty charismatic . So I didn’t mind too much .

Was literally the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Every time he (tried to) sang the audience laughed or cringed. At one point a woman behind me said “god that’s worse than a middle school performance “. They had to cut scenes that would normally include his character singing, scenes I was excited to see. It was genuinely painful to the ears at times. I’m baffled they put him out there like that. He had to know how terrible it sounded, as did the rest of the cast. Awful decision.

I saw Mean Girls on Broadway the night after his debut. I had no clue he was even playing Aaron until I got the Playbill. My brother and I were so confused. He was pretty bad. Couldn’t really sing or act that well. He hit some notes in More is Better but was really bad in Stupid With Love (Reprise). I felt bad for him though because everyone around me was cringing and there was even some people laughing at him.

I saw the show Friday and from a critical point of view, the guy was flat in a few instances when he sang. His diction was okay, but he was sloppy sometimes. I've seen Mean Girls 4 times and to be honest, Cameron does not make the cut. I understand that getting him was maybe to expand the show's audience by having a more marketable figure. But at the end I felt bad for him because you could literally notice the big difference between him being a celebrity and the others who are professional musical theatre actors. As you mentioned in the video, they made a few changes to his character. For example, in Someone Gets Hurt, Aaron Samuels has a couple of lines, and originally, Aaron would be harmonizing with Regina, yet in Cameron's version, there was no harmony, which I found a little disappointing. I found the cast to be carrying him around vocally. Cameron has a nice voice, a pop voice. But when it comes to broadway he is not there yet. And I am sure that if he enjoyed this and prepared more for the future, he would fit. But for now, I can't say that cause when I was watching the show, I couldn't help but notice these little things.
