When you come to the "Fixes", then upgrade. But, don't "Upgrade" and have to fix. Wait until the WG actuator begins to fail before upgrading. Ensure you maintain the fluids/maintenance sooner than prescribed when you get tuned. The IS20 is great for street work and some duty and doesn't need to be awakened, but does go to sleep sooner. The IS38 is no good for the street (unless you're living in higher revs) and good for extra duty and does need to be awakened, but won't go to bed on you early. 👍

I’ve installed 3 turbos on my 2017 MK7 GTI, all on jack stands. Two IS38’s and one EQT. If I had to do the job again I could do it start to finish in 4-5hrs. It’s honestly not that bad of a job.

The other benefit of GTi platform is that you retain great gas mileage with bolt ons and obviously not when you step on it, and unfortunately you can’t do that with the mazdaspeed or the ST don’t get me wrong I love all those hatchbacks but when you can get more power and keep great mpg it’s the biggest plus of the GTi’s worth the money to maintain it

That's called an incompetent tuner, there's dudes with supercharged mustangs knocking down 27-30 mpg highway, calculated by hand and big turbo st's and what not getting 30-35 mpg highway, you could even get 40 mpg with an LS engine provided its geared tall for the highway and you have a competent tuner do the tuning to lean out cruise AFR's...take your car to be tuned by an idiot and it'll reflect in the gas mileage when not ripping it lol

Even carb'd guys with small cube v8s like ford 289/302 and chevy 283/305 can get 22-27 mpg highway with a 4 speed no overdrive plus tall gearing...then there's guys with the same and they get 10-15 mpg...it all depends on tuning

Not to get on you just to kick knowledge and spread information and education correctly as others did with me. On that note I saw you already made a correction to the exhaust manifold just wanted to clear up the turbo information as to what is what and what it does or part it plays in the turbo forced induction system. You just made a mistake most likely on camera as Im sure you know what you meant. Anybody that sees this just Google turbo system setup diagram images or videos to fully understand the different parts/areas of the actual turbo itself and all additional stuff that is necessary and or optional for it to operate correctly. However there are a variety of different layouts/setups for all the different purposes that you may or may not need/want to use this part or that and so on. For a complete system that is being added to a factory video without having to perform custom modifications or better yet said altercation in any manner of such that would keep you from removing the entire system and returning it to stock form. For example, cutting the exhaust rather than being able to bolt on 100% w/o "ANY" additional work.

@@joshc9846 I got 2017 autobahn at 43000k miles.i got it for 26k! I think I got lucky because carmax list it as an SE but from my knowledge, the one I have is an autobahn. Fully electronic driver seats, dual climate zone, adaptive headlight, and DCC! But I have been really enjoying it!

For the key tags you should do all the colors vw makes the gti comes from factory so the key tags can match the car

So, if you're applying "anti-sieze" to items exposed to more extreme heat - you should be using copper NOT silver 👍 The other thing you're dealing with aside from the connections & leak points is - the correct voltage set on the WG.

I just bought a 2010 Audi A4 Quattro with 51k miles and it has the annoying turbo waste gate rattle, this is my first turbocharged car so I don’t know if that’s really bad or not but I’m thinking about changing the turbo in the near future maybe at the beginning of next summer, but this kit costs $3800 CAD which is really expensive but considering it would only take me to 335hp and 300tq with the stage 2 tune that comes with, I’m not sure if it’s worth it

Does anyone know if the GTI turbo is oil cooled or coolant cooled? Is it different between the 20 or 38?

They are all coolant cooled. The 38 has a bigger compressor and turbine. For the mk7, VW used the IS12 for the regular golf, IS20 for the GTI and IS38 for the R. The compressors and turbine gets beefier with the numbers.

@@celderian for sure, I understand the sizing correlation with golf, gti, and r. But yeah my understanding was that they were all coolant cooled. so my new question is why does it get oil lines connected to it? is that for lubrication only and has additional lines for coolant?

@@mikemensinger5763 every turbo has oil to lubricate the bearings. At full spool they spin over 100k RPM. There would be no other way to spin anything that fast and not lubricate it (and only cool it).

Zerex G40 is same color coolant. Noone of manufacturers make coolant or oil. They just relabel the original coolant container.

After watching this installation process , im glad that i have a Mazdaspeed , which is a Japanese brand. it looks like all the german cars are so difficult and time consuming to deal with.
