Hi Sara, this is Jay from Catalonia (Spain). Nice video about Camí de Cavalls and I am so sorry you couldn't finsh it, but let me tell you if the resources for hikers in some empty places had fountains, shelters and other comforts, the path would be overcrowded with people, it would deteriorate and lose all its charm. I did the 360º in five days, and it's needed to know that from Fornells to Ciutadella (north face of the island, with no villages, more than 50 km, the hardest part and the most complicated relief of the road) there's nowhere place in whole year to get supplies (water & food mainly), which it means you have to prepare your route well in advance. Hiking is not only enjoying the path, you have to know how to prepare it before starting and know all its difficulties to prepare an effective backpacking. Take care!

Hi Josep, thanks for your feedback! Yes I agree, I should've done more preparations! Although I like to also keep a few things for improvisation... it didn't go as expected as you can see! I was thinking a similar infrastructure as the Caminos of Santiago for example. I did the Camino Primitivo and it's not as popular as the crowded Frances because is tougher. But along the way you can find everything you need, and for a good budget. Or the GR11, with some refuges. Maybe with Cami de Cavalls it would happen the same... I don't know! I think it won't just hurt a few more amenities along the Cami that would allow independent hikers to enjoy :) I mean, there is infrastructure already, but only If you pay for hotels and agencies that organize everything for you (I requested a price for that. It is way above my budget and not the way I like to travel)..!

Great video. Shame you couldn't complete the walk, but you brought up smthg I hadn't considered: ghost towns!! It's obvious (in hindsight) but hadn't crossed my mind until now!! So, thanks for sharing your experience. I will head over to walk the GR 223 as soon as I can - definitely before off season ;)

Your video is fantastic! I only wish your experience had been better planned and you could have had a more positive outcome. Yes, there are areas along the Cami which are now urbanizations, unavoidable with the arrival of tourism 50 years ago - the Cami has existed for several centuries. The best time to walk the Cami is in the spring and autumn, avoiding the hot months and hoardes of tourists. Camping is not permitted on Menorca's coastline, so if you decide to return use the "Agrotourism" establishments for overnight stays.

Thank you for your tips! In the future if I come back I'd go in spring time.. then I can also combine the trek with some baths in their nice beaches 😀

I thought wild camping was not permitted? I think some enquires about facilities before you started would have been wise. As people do live on the island there must have been some shops

Hi Sam, yes, more planning should've been wiser! I read some blogs and heard about empty villages, but I didn't thought it was as "extreme" as I saw once there... anyway, that's a new learning!

Sorry, years later than your comment. Me and my gf have just completed the whole Cami de Cavalls and let me tell you, the last part of the trail (North) between Fornells to Los Delfines there are no shops to buy water or food. There are 3 restaurants in Cala Morell but if its out of season then those will be shut. You have to stock up and be ready for a tough hike. Bini mel to Es Alocs almost broke us 😂

Gracias
