From experience with the backend of a different site that does sales, it’s probably as little as a checkbox/drop-down selector for whether the code is single-use or multi-use. The backend code doesn’t cross check the hypothetical use scenario of the promo code you make, it just does what you set it up to do. 100% off of this exact product? It does that. Mess up and make it unlimited use, and no other restrictions to hold it back? It does that too, it’s on the person making the code to be careful and double-check what they’ve set.

Also for anything like a 70%+ discount, it should be heavily time-constrained if you're not gonna limit amount. Personally, I don't think anyone would complain if they're forced to put a maximum amount of redeems on anything past 30% discount.

The issue is that the code defaults to unlimited uses. He thought it was single use, so first come, first served... but default unlimited meant all come, all served. The shop would likely see the code uses and question it before going to fulfillment... because they would want to make sure they will get paid.

@@Normg49 It was one code, unlimited uses. A friend of mine has an online store (different website), and when he goes to set up a code it defaults to unlimited. So he can set up a code (freeproduct2023), and it has unlimited uses and no expiration. Then he has to adjust it, telling it to have limited uses (one per customer, if order already over $50) and the valid use period (starting Jan 1st and valid for two weeks). With those settings, it would only work in orders already buying stuff, and could only be claimed once. However, Vedal's quick code using defaults could be used unlimited number of times... but would likely be restricted to one per order. Which is easy to bypass... order one with code, another order one with code, another order one with code... until one person has 1k Neuro plushies being shipped in 1k boxes to their door. Then times that by like a decimillion (10% of million) viewers or something.

@Normg49 Worse, a code for a product should not be unlimited unless it knocks off a slight amount of percentage on a product. The idea the code was for unlimited free items is terrible and nonsensical. This code also wasn't single use per customer or per transaction. People were using the code to order thousands of the plushes per customer, and you'd stop way before that if it were single use per transaction.

If it had been one-time-use, then only ONE person in chat could have used it, i.e. the first person who used it. I don't think an infinite-use code is even supposed to be a thing at all. Even if he gave the code to only one person, that person could use the code thousands or even millions of times. Surely that's never supposed to be possible. The company screwed up, not Vedal. EDIT: A couple of commenters noted that an infinite-use code DOES make sense for something like a 10% off discount, but not for a free product.

If they wanted a system where the client that published the makeship product can just get a free plushie if they want, they'd do it by other more direct means, I'd hope), B. makeship didn't have a clear policy on giveaways and the usage of any given codes / coupons (and that's on Makeship), and/or C. all coupons are for unlimited redemption yet the Makeship client (Vedal) was still given the authority to give it out to his own free will (in which case: rule number 1 of being a retail company, don't give your client full authority because they do not have the information you do).

I've known people who ended their lives due to debt... I've been at that low more times than I'd care to admit for different situations... What always brings me to my breaking point is when people who I thought were my friends, who I thought cared about me, just start laughing... You question if they ever cared... You question if they were ever your friends from the start... You want them to find out that you've taken yourself out of the life equation because you want it to be the most painful, agonizing thing to ever haunt them. You want it to follow them for the rest of their lives, and you want them to know that they're partially to blame. You want them to go their whole lives, unable to forget that THEY laughed... THEY didn't care... THEY found it funny... and as a result, it cost THEM... YOUR life... I'm speaking from experience... the hate and anger are eternal. It never leaves you... it follows you, corrupts you... you change for the worse and much like PTSD, even if you get over it, certain triggers bring you right back. For me, it's hearing certain names of certain people who I regret ever meeting... memories of good times I've had with friends come to me, and the anger and hate follows. It's toxic... you look back on the good times and miss it... but BECAUSE you look back on the memories, you are consumed with hate and anger... Vedal, worst case scenario, will not be able to fix this... he'd end it all to escape. In the best case scenario, he and Makeshift sort things out. Either way... what was the FIRST thing Anny and Camila did? They laughed... There was no concern. There was no sympathy. Camila, Anny, Cotton, and Numi laughed... at least Numi seemed genuinely worried in this video, so there's hope for her. The rest of them aren't friends... I don't even consider them human. If the worst-case scenario happens, and God, I hope it won't... but if it does, then they'll never realize that they're partially to blame for losing a friend in the worst way possible. This was highly obvious (to the ones who were not drunk) that this was an error on the plush company's part, not Vedal's, and Camila herself was clearly drunk off her ass and didn't understand the situation between her intoxication and chat being garbage at explaining it to her, and Numi was learning about the situation FROM drunk Camila and was getting incorrect information. Also if I'm understanding the timeframe of these videos, the situation had been handled by the time Anny heard about the situation, not while it was happening (EDIT: just doublechecked and yes, she was reacting to a youtube video of what happened, so enough time had passed for someone to take the stream VOD, edit it down to that part and upload it first). Can't comment on Cotton's reaction as I haven't seen that one. And one last thing, keep in mind that some people laugh as a coping mechanism for things they can't do anything about.
