Big Stepper so? She grew up in America, where they teach u racism is bad. Hell im 15 myself and I knew for years that it’s wrong. I know there’s such thing as dark humor but they fact that her page seemed dedicated to racist stereotypes just seems......... eh. Also we r allowed to feel offended. Ppl take things differently. If someone were to call u an insulting word, u would probably feel offended but I won’t cuz they never called me that. But how would u like it if I said “ur making it a big deal” when ur clearly hurt? Ppl have feelings. Also the change between the a and er in the n word makes no difference. It’s still offensive. Even though I’m black, I hate the use of the word out of anyone’s mouth. It should’ve died back then. But it makes since apparently for blacks to use it. And if u can’t see that then... u need more education.

Camilla has always come across as fake and disinguine to me. Like she tries extra hard to embody the bubbly, cute relatable roll. The way she stood in the background when Normani was getting bullied was foul. Folks need to stop putting their irrelevant two cents in and stating how she needs to be forgiven when the offensive things she said doesn't pertain to them. Therefore, shut up. All this she's changed bullshit. When a person shows you who they are the first time, believe them.

LJ B I’m 16 and there are so many kids in my grade who say the N word. I would never do that, but they say it because their friends all do it and they probably don’t know any better. Not insinuating that it is acceptable, but that possibly could have been the case for her. She grew up in Miami which has a majority of Hispanic population. Believe me when I say a lot of Hispanics say the N word, so she was most likely influenced by that. The important part is that she realized what she was doing is wrong and stopped doing it (as far as we know).
@ljb5163
@ljb5163 5 жыл бұрын
Loser_McGee Her using the N word was the least bad thing she did. She explicitly used it in a way to degrade black people. Intent matters and it’s clear that she had something against black people. All I’m saying is that “she didn’t know any better and learned” is BS. She knew and was racist. She did not once use the word in an endearing way between friends (publicly). It’s always been derogatory. I just don’t get the excuses people are making for this behavior. Maybe she changed but don’t excuse her past as ignorance.
@jedayeyo
@jedayeyo 5 жыл бұрын
LJ B I’m not making excuses, sorry you thought that way. The people she grew up with did the same thing, they used the N word in an insulting way. She did it too, probably not realizing that it was bad. She grew up in an area where almost everyone said it. Think of it as your friends start saying something, eventually you will do it too. Early teens are really impressionable and most will do anything to fit in, that’s why most kids in my high-school all say it without realizing the consequences. In no means am I saying it excuses her behavior, or the behavior of my peers, but what’s the point in hating on them once they’ve stopped doing it and realized how horrible it is? It’s been so many years and she’s done so many good things since then, and has even supported various movements such as Black Lives Matter. TLDR: What she did was horrible, and I’m not trying to make up excuses for her behalf. But putting so much hatred onto someone for something they did as an impressionable and immature 15 year old is no better. She grew up in a racist community and the most likely scenario was that she simply didn’t know how bad it was. The important thing is that she grew up, realized what she did was bad, changed her ways and started to support the black community, and now is asking for forgiveness.

as you can see in my profile picture I'm white and I grew up in Alabama and Missouri. down south so many parents are racist, and kids grow up to be what their parents are. mine are not but they are hardcore republicans. she is Cuban so her parents might have wanted her to think the same way they did at the time. At 15, you don't know if you wanna listen and follow your parents' beliefs or go your own way. My best friend is black and I make soooo many damn jokes about her liking chicken and watermelon. but I live in Alabama so its racist, even though my best friend is black. I promise she has black friends she jokes with and can do it without the fear of being attacked but people who can't take a joke. some of the things she said were kinda over the top but she didn't actually mean it. you think she would have posted it if she knew she would have to have dealt with all this stupid drama. she just did it as a joke. you don't know right from wrong if you have no one to tell you.

Thai Ya Long it’s not that we want her to commit suicide. We don’t want harm. A eye for an eye and the world goes blind but ppl r finally seeing how racist she was or is. It doesn’t matter if she apologized or if it was from 2012. I’m several years younger than her and I know that’s messed up. Especially since she grew up in America. Don’t they teach you about racism? Yet there it goes. I know kids my age like to say dark humor and shit but there’s a point where it needs to stop. Especially in jokes that include stereotypes about race. They stem from racist ideologies. It’s up to all those ppl who felt offended by her remarks whether to forgive her “apology” or not. U shouldn’t feel offended if ppl decide not to forgive her. Bc words hurt. If someone said something hurtful to me, u think I would still be around them? Hell no. It doesn’t matter if they apologize. And her apology doesn’t mean anything to me bc I don’t even know her personally or her personality. Idk if she still feels this way about blacks and Asians. I’m turning an blind eye. Y’all can do what u want but don’t u dare tell ppl how they should feel. Ppl take things differently, u should know that.

Cubans are notorious in the Latino community for hating Mexicans and Central Americans. They are also one of the few Latino communities that voted for Tяump in droves. What they fail to realize is that Mexicans are Native Americans. Northern Mexicans particularly are genetically identical to the Native Americans of the southwestern US. Ppl forget from Texas to Cali used to be Mexico. Polk forced war against Mexico knowing he would annex land afterward. He wanted the US to stretch from the Atlantic to the pacific and Mexico was in the way. A quote from Ulysses S. Grant about Polks war on Mexico: “I do not think there was ever a more wicked war than that waged by the United States on Mexico.” He said this bc he knew the war wasn’t about anything Mexico had done illegally it was simply so the US could take Mexican land.

I wish well for Camila and I do HOPE she really did develop to be a better person and try to be at least considerate to ALL RACE. To be fair we are all equal. This world was made for EVERYBODY, so don't feel so obnoxious especially if your race is more accepted and use that privileges into disadvantages. I ask everybody to love one another. I pray that Camila will be sincere enough because she cares about equality and not because she get caught. I believe in the goodness of people and I hope she really is sorry. To the people to takes sides without a doubt please put yourselves into other's shoes before you jump in sides. To all unique races, you all belong and has a place in this world, you have a purpose and YOU ALL ARE LOVED. Spread the love everyone. I'm sorry but at 15, you should already know from right and wrong regardless of your upbringing. How is she gonna act like she didn't know the meaning behind the "n" word when violence/racism towards the black community in the US is so prevalent. That's like me (an Afghan living in Australia) not knowing about the sufferings of the indigenous Aboriginal / Torres strait islanders have gone through in history and in the present. Her reasoning / excuse for her behaviour back in the day is bullshit. I was a fan and now I don't even wanna hear her name again. And on a side note, Normani is literally what an artist should be, the girl can dance, sing, stage presence be on point and her music doesn't sound generic like most singers these days.

She DID say very racially insensitive things in the past, and that isn’t okay. But it’s a simple fact that she said those things 7 years ago. 7 years ago, I was a stupid teenager who said ignorant stuff too. We’re all products of our environment, and it’s evident that Camila has grown since then and makes an effort to include POC in her art, and speak up on important topics. I also don’t like the fact that once she got called she apologized. However I can’t say she didn’t change . She might’ve been a racist which she was , but right now she doesn’t seem like it and supports all groups of people . This is the main problem, she can apologize 1000x but it means nothing without 1 sincere apology. 1) The format she uses to relay the apology is subpar (we should have at least seen her face or shown effort by physically writing something or typing it in a formal structure), but we can forgive it in the age of technology. 2) the language things she did were hurtful and were intended to be disrepectful, but she contradicted herself and said she meant no harm. She needs to own up to her mistake without sugarcoating it to make herself seem better. 3) She blames her behavior on her youth, but it wasnt like she was 11 when she said this, she was 15...when discussing blatant racism, that is not young. Age as an excuse for racism ends after you become a teen, let alone being halfway though teenaged years. 4) She never specifies what she did. We all know that scenario with an adult making a little kid apologize and when the kid says "im sorry" and the adult follows with "for...". Even little kids know that an apology comes with an admission of what you did wrong. She only apologizes for the "hurtful things she has said and done". That is generic AF. What did she do? what did she say? what was she young ad ignorant about? That is the main problem. But also, to do these things as a young adult (not a small child), she was in a point of her life to know better and for many who have been hurt personally by things like this, it is unforgivable. Thousands of black ppl have been murdered with the last word they heard being n*gger and she had the audacity to use that word (not misusing it as a term of endearment but using it as an insult at that, with the R, towards someone she knows...), some are not gonna let that go and that is their fully justified choice. We're not required to forgive one's past, especially when given an underwhelming apology.

an objective explanation of the normani story (from the pov of a black fan who saw it happening at the time): as concise as I could make it so pls read! normani's horrific ordeal on twitter happened when fifth harmony (5h) first started to fall apart and the fandom (harmonizers) started to become fragmented. it was the start of the end for 5h, with the other four (ot4) all appearing to turn against camila out of jealousy and resentment of her solo projects. harmonizers split into camila fans (camilizers) vs ot4 stans. the reason why camilizers were upset about mani's description of camila was because when she described the other three girls, she had something nice to say about them straight away. she called ally her 'little ray of sunshine', lauren her 'counsellor/therapist and best friend' and dinah 'the turnt queen....so much fun'. people simply called normani out on it as proof that ot4 hated camila and didn't consider her as a friend or want her in the band. they were genuine fans, upset and confused about the future of their favourite band. the problem lay in the fact that there were already a lot of racist harmonizers who would go to meet and greets (m&gs) and hug all the girls except mani, or not want her in their m&g pics. they saw the drama as an opportunity to launch their hate campaign, and they pounced. it had nothing to do with camila. yes she made a lot of hateful and insensitive comments/posts, but even though the band hadn't been together too long the other girls already displayed a dislike for her as she was the "favourite" when they were on x factor and quickly became friends with the taylor swift squad. camila was being immature and lashing out, but people forget she wasn't the one photoshopping mani's head onto gorillas or people being lynched. she said herself that she did not consider the people who hurt her friend like that her fans and she tried to put a stop to it; but it wasn't her battle. it's just another tragic reality of an ongoing battle in the us and uk. it's sad but it's true. it was highly problematic of empressive (nothing new there) to put the two stories together as though they were part of the same thing. one was about a racially motivated attack on an innocent, beautiful, strong black woman whom people were intimidated by and proceeded to drive off of twitter with their abuse. the other was simply a pathetic attempt to take away from the fact that camila decided to own up to her past mistakes for which she has already publicly apologised on two occasions, by making fun of her latest genuine apology. if you know camila, you know that's just how she communicates because she has such a way with words. when she rambles, she's speaking from the heart. clearly kinda like me haha.

Here's the thing. I disagree with what she said and did and I'm ashamed of her for saying those things. However, I'd like to see how she acts and what she does in the future, and then we'll be able to tell if she's really sorry.

the netherlands is like this too to some extend, as one of the leaders in slavery back in the day and a lot of black people from colonies living in the Netherlands nowadays, there is a lot of systemic racism. They also made pictures of black female politician Sylvana Simons getting lynched just because she spoke out against the racist blackface tradition annually in the country. We're all in this together across the globe...

I mean, that was 9 years ago (or 7 years ago). But I agree, racism is unacceptable, especially when it is more than once being bright out against blacks (who I love and support btw). She made more than one racial slur back then when she was a teenager. I believe mistakes happen and we learn from them. Which means I believe she learned from her mistakes and she learned from them. Her fans on other hand, some of them are loyal and respectful, but then some of them are fake with stupidity (when they said racial slurs to Normani, they probably were acting like her fans and still wanted to go too far). She apologized to Normani 2 years ago (which is what we wanted), and then she apologized over and over for her past racial comments from 2012 like she did today (but, it doesn't seem like it's enough). I know the black community is angry about this (and probably not having it with her past remarks), but I do believe people do change and learn from a bunch of horrible mistakes (while some just don't change at all). She wrote a lot about herself, mainly because she wanted to specific (even when she didn't really say the parts of it, but most of us should take a hint). I just hope, since (supposedly) she truly is sorry for her racial past (because she apologized again), and the black community can take the time, to know that her apology was to them and was never a fake. I know it's hard for a few to accept an apology, (because not all of us are forgiving like nothing), the one thing, I don't want to see, is us being divided, and hating each other, when our past mistakes (even the worst ones), don't define who we are, in our future (unlike Donald Trump is still being a racist putting fear into all of us for being united). Thank you 🙏

I'm gonna say something that ppl aren't gonna hop on to until another couple of years, but pls don't minimize racism by saying the word racial. It was a racist past, clearly. Doing racist things continuously makes a person a racIST, not racIAL. There is a scale of how racist a person can be and she isn't Trump level, but being racist doesn't have to be overt and clownish. Saying someone is or is being racist isn't necessarily an insult, its a fact thereof, like calling someone rude. Not every person who does something rude is characteristically rude but if you engage in rude behavior often enough it becomes quite evident that you are simply rude. Saying racial allows ppl to shrug off the weight of their actions. It makes the perpetrator feel better about their actions when the truth is that it was racist and ppl are afraid to make the perpetrator feel bad. We can only conquer racism once ppl understand what it is. Racial (adjective) is used if we are simply talking about race (noun), if racism (noun) is involved the adjective is racist. Switching these adj's out is misleading and incorrect. Sometimes we have to own up to things and carry a weight we don't want to hold, but that's what right. Let's not use plays on language to prevent ppl from owning up to their mistakes.

But it's like at what point are people forgiven for the stupid shit they do? It's been 7 entire fucking years lmao- she was FIFTEEN. She is now TWENTY TWO. I'm sure there are countless of things y'all have done 7 years ago or at the age of 15 that you wouldn't want people holding against you if you know that you've grown from that time. It's just popping up for us but this happened nearly a decade ago for her. But if it's not something really recent, I don't get why people are mad at the shit. Kids are dumb and do dumb things. Can you not be a former anything? If we held people to their standards of 7+ years ago in the spotlight, a lot of y'all would be in deep shit lol. I wouldn't even apologize for this; but then again, they wouldn't care because I'm black.

As a black person in today’s society, I frankly don’t care. I get these comments are very offensive and insensitive is an understatement, but It’s in the past. Some people can feel however they want about this situation, and that’s completely justified, but I’m not going to waste my time being mad over something said 7+ years ago. Everyone said dumb things at that age because that was just the normal and “cool” thing to do. So as society is progressing, people are becoming more aware of these issues and how wrong it is. I understand it but that doesn’t mean it’s right. So I understand and recognize people’s right to be fucking pissed, because this is not a laughing matter. But I personally just can’t waste my time and energy on something like this. And to those saying her apology isn’t genuine...maybe it is, maybe it isn’t but frankly it doesn’t matter because nothing is going to change. She may loose a few followers and her sales may decline by a minute percentage, but in the end, the people who like her music will continue to buy albums and this whole situation will be forgotten.

Influencer with racist past: "I was uneducated and ignorant back then. 😔" Swarthes of white fans who are actually uneducated and ignorant: "Omg! All is forgiven! No need to apologize." Everyone affected by the infuencer's racism: "Uh... excuse me?" I don't think it's talked about enough about how these fans are equally damaging with their immediacy to forgive their fave's bigotry. It's infuriating. Just because someone "apologizes" doesn't make it right. And if someone showed bigotry/racism before, they more than likely still retain the same bigoted/racist ways to an extent (even after trying to change/distance themselves from their past behavior) but are more tactful with handling it by not letting everyone else know about it. I wished these celebs were actually held accountable.

I am a 15 year old white man, and I do not believe she is very sorry for her actions. As I am not a person of color, my feeling towards this doesn't really matter. But the fact she said she was young and immature? I am years younger than her, and I know what is racist and isn't. She can do all she can, but she knows what she did and apologized, even tho when people try to make aplogizes they use big words and make the speech long to act like they are sorry. IMO i don't think she is sorry.

Yes racism has no age and it doesnt change things but what changes things is time and it’s been 7 years she cleary learned from her mistakes, cuz she didnt do or said anything racist since 2012 and back then ppl didnt really discussed racism it was a topic, but it wasnt mainstream, media didnt shed light on it, so it is likely, that she didnt knew how hurtful and heavy the word actually is, y’all cab forgive jefree which used that word in his early 20’s and why does cardi b has a pass she isnt black, but you cant forgive someone who learned from their mistake? Theo ok so that happened in 2012. The racist comments against Normani were years after that. If Camila truly changed she would have defended Normani since it was Her fans that were attacking Normani. All Camila said was “spread love not hate.” Ally and Lauren were the ones that actually defended Normani when it wasn’t even their fans attacking her
