I love how you could tell just exactly when he was getting more comfortable with you. You'd step away and he'd look to you and approach attentively with ears on you and everything. I haven't gotten a horse myself but I plan to one day in the future, you're very good at what you do. Hey Jude is a gorgeous mustang

He is coming along so nicely and fast! You are both doing great work! Your video editing is getting so much better too. Just keep doing this, your life will be awesome and ignor the 64 naysayers on this video. Frankly, I have no idea what they might see that is upsetting their applecarts. The only time I do a thumbs down on any video is when I see training techniques that do not benefit the horse, or the rest of us for that matter. Keep going and keep teaching the rest of us. Please! Just love you for what you are doing.

Good job. Working according to the horse pace. Build a connection. I remember when I bought my first horse. I hugged him the first second I saw him. It was easy from that moment on. Good luck.

It is important to note mustangs are not wild horses; they are Farrell horses. You are doing an amazing job saving these babies. The BLM has a really tough job taking care of these beautiful animals. There are too many horses and not enough adopters. One of the problems is you really need to know what you are doing so you both are not injured. As a horse trainer for many years, I have always endeavored to save these animals; sadly, not all can be saved. It breaks my heart.

My mustang won’t let me touch his neck with the whip. He isn’t afraid of me. He is just very cautious and prefers to face me rather than let me touch him at his side. Any advice?
@CamillesMustangs5 жыл бұрын
Haylee Graham stand right in front of him and let him face you. Rub his face with the end of a stick. Slowly work your way from his face to his cheek to his neck, all while standing in front of him. Work on approach and retreat from there until you can rub all over his neck with the stick and your hand. Then you can work towards getting the halter on.

He is a super beautiful horse and very calm for coming from the wild. You said in the last video he was a Roan right? I've never seen a roan color before. So it is interesting looking at him when the light hits him. :)
@genthespacewitch5 жыл бұрын
WOW Jude looks so much like my BLM Mustang from Nevada. Identical white markings and same color minus the roan. But beyond color, they have the same shape/build and move the same way. Jude even looks on the tall side and my guy is enormous at 16hh. He's a lot older though, born in '97, so maybe an uncle or cousin?

Wheni had my filly ( not a mustang but hadent been handled ) i used to give her a handful of sweet feed before working with her and one after.( i have little hands lol) it was funny after 2 weeks..biy she was my buddy . she would have her ears up ( they usally wete back) and she became alot easier to work with because if she wasnt behaving she didnt get her reward at the end of the session when she would look for her treat. She caught on pretty fast..if she was doing really good..id give her a small piece of apple or carrot..but id make her do something like lift her foot. ( something i had worked on prior to see if she was retaining her training. Then go back to what we were learing that day..her attitude greatly improved.( she had a nasty one before ears alwasy back and she liked to try to kick or bite..) It took a while to break her of that bad habit it took ALOT of paitence..getting kicked or bit..but once she got a better attitude..( she was very food motivated) and is pony her down to the river and put her in the deep end and make her swim..alot of her attitude was gone ( she loved to swim..that was also a big reward..she hated water at first but figured out..i work. Good river..and can roll splash and play with the other horse.. If im not being good and have an attitude. I have to swim then still get some training. And no free time or treats..if i knew we wete going to do something brand new that might set her off..id let her play in the river with my other horse to get some of her energy out and make sure she didnt have an attitude. Then work with her..first time i saddled her she was great..( used a " junk" saddle..) She was nervous so i tied her to the hitch post..(easy leader halter pat perelli classes..lol) one of her " first " lessons..when she was doing alot well . saddled my other horse and we went walking..2 weeks adding weight. Used a rubber snaffle bit first time i put a bridle on her ( she hated metal bits or it had to have a cricket on it ..put metal in her mouth shed slobber all over the place dont know why gave up and kept. Using. Rubber snaffle. Broke her to ride one month..( she had all her ground. Down ) i got on. She was bunched up..had my friend pony us dowrn to the river..un saddled let her play saddled her back up and walked her to my friendss house on our own ..(yeah she did buck more of a crow hop but i pulled her head up and in. And said her calm. Word. The ground work took a while but so worth a bomb proof girl..and a great first ride.. She. Was a go fiend shed beg to be. Rode because it ment excitement to her..

Neat fact about my filly..wayyyy deep in her bloodline had depth charge..thats how she got her name..pay a ton..i called her Peyton" i think she thought her name was no no or aahhhnt dont you do it.lol. ( she used to pin her ears ard fly backwards kicking or about run over you to get a bite out of you. Hence her nick names..i mostly called her long legs ( im 52 now i got her when i was 20..she was 2 didnt ride her untill she was 3 because i didnt want her legs messed up because she had dainty legs and id be riding her on alot of trails that were rocky unstable and had steep climbs ..my vet said by the time i rode her she would have everything down and good and she would have a more time to grow. ( not my weight but possibly heaver people) but she was BOMB proof not much phased her and if it did..id say her safe word . stop immediately and trurn her head inward. ( shed splay and rock or a little side step and shake but thing is i worked with her so much she had complete trust in me . ( road graters , tractors and dump trucks are scary..her breath and snorting souded like a locomotive..but id make her stand..let her rock and asked her to touch it ..shed let out a big sigh ..shed walk forward took ALOT of work and paitence. If i said her safe word she expected a treat..lol i always gave her one if we were going to do something scary like a road grater coming twards us..id say her safe word giver her a treat make her stand let it pass ..next we would work on keep walking by it..then a treat..thank goodness i worked on bomb proofing..when we were out for a ride after i had her broke to ride..some idiot in a pick up truck came by blaring his horn and thew a full soda can at her and hit her upside the head..she snorted side stepped gathered up..( like she was gonna buck or bolt..i said her safe word she turned her head in towards my foot and stopped immediately. She was shaking hard..so ..i dismounted her gave her a treat and checked her..rode home called my vet..( she got hit by the can hard right over her eye...she was " ok" but it swelled up ( if she were human shed have a black eye...we were very lucky..i let her rest ..( didnt wantto hurt her head..) Was out riding my other horse , same pickup tried to do almost same thing. But i slammed my horse to a stop he missed..so i had a hammer..fixing. Stuff earlier..my other horse was a retired cow horse..nicknamed fearless pete asked him to GO. We went sailing past pickup truck when we passed i flung. My hammer into HIS windshield then. Turned AROUND on a dime and ran like heck. And jumped the irragation. Ditch..and acrost the field..darnet..lost a good hammer..but he kearned a lesson....by a broken windshield..lol never honked or threw anything again ..when he saw people out riding.

Any tips on feeding a new mustang? You've gotten his coat looking good compared to the first day you saw him.
@CamillesMustangs5 жыл бұрын
They are used to alfalfa hay so alfalfa pellets is the first “grain” I start them on. Makes for a smooth transition
@manderson52185 жыл бұрын
Ok! Last question: Do you transition them to another feed after the alfalfa pellets? A specific kind you feed your other horses? And thanks for getting back to me!

I find it hard to believe that this horse that if not still was recently a stallion and wild and that he had not been handled prior to this 2nd time of you handling him. He does seem to be amazingly placid.
@haleylahaie37405 жыл бұрын
Any horse, no matter of background(save for extreme cases of bad human involvement. Like foals imprinted by idiots or just idiots or abusers interacting with horses in general.), mare, stallion, gelding, etc. can be an amazing and we'll behaved animal with the right trainer. Mustangs can actually be easier to work with than some horses people raised because they are a completely clean slate. Regardless you still need to be a good trainer to pull it off. This girl seems to be doing a pretty good job so good for her.
@LoveLight90795 жыл бұрын
I still say that isn’t a completely wild horse.

@@CamillesMustangs That probably has something to do with it. So 8 months in captivity gave him time to at least get used to the presence of humans and to realize that humans mean they get food. Thanks for letting me know.

Wow, that's a very calm and beautiful horse. I think you do a good job with him. :) Unfortunately i've a point of criticism: the halter doesn't fit. But you just started to tame him, so i guess you'll find a better one when he knows halters.

It’s not fair, the government is rounding up thousands of horses, and then putting him in those tiny pens you bought him from, selling them wild. Even when there’s over 80000 thousand horses and there’s supposed to be less than 30000, they still keep taking them from their old homes, wherever those were.
@Mar-ft9xu4 жыл бұрын
Albertina Thompson idk what their living condition is, but I saw a video on the dodo about what I talked about before. In Australia, and more places they were doing this to thousands of wild horses and putting them in pens that look just like this...... I’m not sure what to think anymore

Albertina Thompson I just wish people got a taste of their own medicine. People are so horrible to animals and I hate it. It’s very stressful being so informed.... sometimes I wish I didn’t know all of this was happening but then I feel guilty for even thinking about it. I like being informed and knowing that I can help one day
