I have done the same thing out of Santander, and Lavacolla on a Sunday is still hopeless even when it’s not raining.

Hello from Canada Nadine. I think these challenges or mistakes often make the best stories. This thought can even help me to get through a difficult time with a bit more humour. I always enjoy these sit down videos that you do in the off season. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and a laugh too.

Hope you have some beautiful snow up in Canada for the holidays! And I agree with you, the mistakes and mishaps often make the best stories, or are at least very memorable. It's good to be able to laugh when things go wrong (especially the minor stuff!)

Thanks for your honesty Nadine. I am from England but I live in Spain. This year we were walking the Via de la Plata. I managed to drop my passport just after we ate breakfast. Didn't realize for about 3 hours. As i turned back, hoping to find it, my son messaged me. Someone had found my passport and phoned him in England, he is my ICE name and number on my passport. He gave them my number and we carried on walking into Mérida. About 30 minutes later an Irish couple passed us. Something made me ask them if they were the couple who had found my passport. Sure enough it was them! They handed it to me and walked on. They were walking a lot quicker than my husband and I, they had to meet an airbnb host at a particular time. The Camino always provides😊Merry Christmas and a Happy New walking Year, Nadine. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos. Loved the Norway series❤.❤❤❤❤

Hi Nadine you are so nice person, I like your channel ❤ I done in September the Frances and I do some mistakes and bloopers too but I wish I were on the road again and do some mistakes too that in the end were minor. Greatings from Romania🙏

still LOLOLOLOL! wondrous stuff, Nadine! I think also we all have a time when we left something an the albergue, I left my bag which had my passport, my credential and some money on the bunk, a young Scottish person ran me down after 4 kilometers and I went back to get my things, but what are another 8k's on a long day??? (It was kind of cool to walk alone!) On another stage our friend Bart had an app that had a short cut through the woods that would save us kilometers from Samos to Sarria...needless to say, after getting yelled at by the locals and barked at by the HUGE dogs...we found our way...and, not quite your list, but nearly...e) all of the above...Many Blessings!

Oooh, the blunders and mistakes are all a part of the journey, and we rarely forget them, or make the same mistake again. 🤣 I have made many mistakes as a solo traveller (not Camino related though). Last year I travelled solo through Italy for 6 weeks. I was staying at an Airbnb in Milan and moving across the city to another accomodation to meet my hiking buddies. Once I'd checked in there, I realised I'd left my travel adaptor in the Airbnb. I had to travel back through the city to the other side to collect it. It was a wasted couple of hours... but an adventure all the same.

I got lost several times in Galicia. I did the Francés as my first camino. Loved it, it changed my life in so many ways. Omg, omg, omg!!! Starting Via de la Plata April 15th💫

I was on the Del Norte in 2023 and got chatting to a guy. We walked for several hours and I came to realise that some of the village/town names on the road signs were not familiar at all. We had walked about 5km in the wrong direction so added an extra 10km to our walk. When we arrived back to where we should have turned the Camino arrow was so obvious. How did we miss it I'll never know 😂
@NadineWalksАй бұрын
Hahaha oh wow, 5km in the wrong direction is kind of impressive!! But I do find that I'm more distracted and less focused on directions/arrows when I'm walking with another person

Mistakes are just lessons we have yet to learn... :) So many people, like me, will be chuckling as they watch this because we have all made those mistakes, but we get better the more we do. Good advice for people to think of. Happy Holidays to you, have a great time. Looking forward to more adventures in 2025 :)

Yup, there are always lessons in the mistakes!! And happy holidays to you as well :)

Yep missed yellow arrows too. And leaving without breakfast. And walking before sunrise in dark forrest on rocky paths without flashlight. It all adds to the charm of a camino. 😊
@NadineWalksАй бұрын
It totally does!! I'm sure I'll continue to make these same mistakes over and over (though getting lost in the dark isn't my favorite and I'm going to try to avoid that one in the future!)

Your early morning walk around town reminded me of the morning I left in the dark. I was on the CF in 2023 and I was walking out of town with about 4 others. We were all wearing headlamps. About 1/2k outside town 3 people stopped and said they think we missed the turnoff and they were going back. I looked at my online map (maybe google) and it looked like it was the right direction. Well the sun came up and I realized I had been following someone else (never do that) along a highway that, yes, went to our destination - but this was not the Camino. I took the next road that went across country to meet up with the camino. I tried to hitch and all I got were waves and shouts of "bon camino"! People encouraging me on the way! lol. An added 3k meant that day I got my only blister. Distracted, wandering, walking.. Don't follow someone out of town just because they are a headlamp ahead of you and seem sure of themselves. ;) Wandered into that great Camino breakfast stop. The one that is a green seacan. It was so appreciated!

Several times I booked two different accommodations and had angry hosts messaging me asking me when I was going to arrive when I was already sleeping in a different accommodation. Make sure you cancel your accommodation. Not fair to the hosts who are waiting for you.

i was in Fromista last May and i knew i have a 35+ km walk to Calzadilla de la cueza, so i started early. maybe 6? and it was still dark, i got to the plaza and met who i thought was a fellow pilgrim, he pointed a direction and i didnt check the map and just went the way he pointed. about half a mile later i started feeling like it wasnt right so checked the Camino map and saw i was going south instead of west. i went back and the guy was 100 ft behind me, i pointed that its the wrong way but he didnt respond so i just kept going to follow the map. it felt like something was about to go wrong at that time and im glad i didnt walk any further south ( the only time i felt something was wrong while on the camino ) ... the rest of the day was long but also trudgingly uneventful... never saw that guy again for the rest of the camino... cant wait to walk it again!

Oh, also, as well as basic bits of Spanish I found it important to learn the difference between Left (izquierda!) and Right (derecha!) because when you make a wrong turn there will always be some local shouting this to you from a distance :)

What month did you walk the Camino?
@NadineWalksАй бұрын
I've walked a bunch of Caminos over the last 10 years; I typically walk in the summer (June/July), and one year walked the Coastal Camino Portuguese in April.
