Camino de Santiago called me back this summer (2021) to walk for a couple weeks on Camino Frances. This is the long version of the Camino Vlogs that I have already released on this channel in daily sections. This is just the long version that brings all of those vlogs together into one Camino documentary style video.

Very enjoyable video. You did a very nice job of explaining the ups and downs of the Camino: the joy of the scenery, meeting people, and the physical challenges. Peace and God bless!! 😊✌️

You say you shot most of this footage on a GoPro Hero 9? It looks really good! I am SERIOUSLY considering purchasing the 10; however, I am told they overheat after so many minutes! We shall see. Nice work. God Bless! ☦

Thank you! Yes. It is almost all shot on the Hero 9...I filmed a lot in 1080 and some in 4k...I have never had any overheating problems and it was hot outside this summer too. I suspect that higher resolution filming makes the heat worse. But I'm pretty happy with the results...and the stabilization makes it look like there is a gimbal even though there is none!

I really enjoyed your video. I had planned on hiking the Camino in 2020. It obviously got cancelled. I am hoping to hike it sometime soon! Your video was the first I found since COVID. Any chance you can elaborate on what staying in the hostels is like now? Do you have to sleep in a mask?
@CaminoGuide
@CaminoGuide 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Erika! Hopefully you can make it there soon. I never saw anyone sleeping in mask. In general, pilgrims removed their masks once getting into albergues. They would checkin with mask on, but often remove it in the dorms. Some of the kitchens are closed. So cooking on your own is mostly out now. But otherwise the hostels are mostly the same as other times….well except better because they are not totally full.

I'm surprised that you didn't mention Sahagún at all. It's the half way point between Roncesvalles and Santiago and an important landmark.

It’s true. The only reason was it was the day I was sick. I filmed very little that day. I didn’t have much to say!

I plan to make a video about my full filming rig. I’m sure plenty would like to make good videos of their Camino. But the blogging sections where I am talking to the camera are almost all a GoPro Hero 9 with the Media Mod kit. The media mod has a very good quality mic. I lost the windscreen halfway through Camino and you can tell on windy sections after that. If you can keep that windscreen on then it is an excellent way to film people talking. New iPhones do pretty well if you don’t have other noise around. But they suffer with wind noise or noisy environments. Quality is much higher on iPhone if using the front facing camera, but then you don’t know what you are seeing.

@@CaminoGuide thank you. Just purchased cannon G7x for may Camino. But I do find the volume to low on playback when I record . Looking forward to your video on recording
@CaminoGuide
@CaminoGuide 3 жыл бұрын
@@dawns7980 with that camera, your easiest quality solution would be Rode Video Micro. That mic will pick up a lot of other sounds if you are in a noisy environment. It has a very wide pattern. But it would create very good levels and good audio apart from not cancelling out sounds behind, etc.

I hate to bother you with basic questions, but what type, size & weight is your backpack? Do you find it sufficient?
@CaminoGuide
@CaminoGuide 3 жыл бұрын
I don't mind at all! Helping people figure this out is why I make the videos. This pack was the Gregory Zulu 30. I bought it just 2 days before leaving ( I have two other packs) because I wanted a lighter and smaller pack for this summer trip. I LOVED it. The pack weighs about 2 pounds...about 1.5 pounds less than either of my others. And I never had need for more space. However, I didn't have any rain jacket, fleece, or sleeping bag for this trip. I don't know if this bag will be enough for a colder weather Camino. I'll have to figure that out this Spring as I prepare for a May trip. But for a summer trip, a 30L bag that weighs just 2 pounds was a GIFT.

@@CaminoGuide - oh, to be young again! Cherish it while you can! my heart tells me I'm 16... but that was many years ago. and to be travelling again... 20+ years of pilgrimage, 2020 was to be an early-ish "retirement" from the day job to coordinate pilgrimages full time. and to be on the ground with my pilgrims too. Want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. but speaking of plans... I'm hoping fall 2022 we can really resume pilgrimage. I have friends - tour managers, guides, escorts, drivers... and they're going on 2 years with no work. Happy to help you help them go back to work.

is walking pole allowed in the airport? thank you
@CaminoGuide
@CaminoGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. My experience is that you will ALWAYS get them removed during airport security in Spain. If you are leaving from a Spanish airport then plan to check your poles. If you are leaving from a US airport, technically they are not allowed by TSA. However, I have put them inside my backpack and have never had TSA stop me even once...at least 4-5 trips that I have done this. I always plan to have plenty of time to go back and check them through security if I am going to try to get them through. But so far no problems. Airport in any other country? I have no idea.

@@raymarcarloballeta5202 I have not been there at that time. I think a good rule of thumb would be weather similar to a coastal city of that latitude in your country. For an American, imagine weather similar to Portland or New York.
