Hey mate. I was hoping to stay in the same Albergue as you in Olague, but carried on past to Lantz in the end. My turn for rain from tomorrow apparently. 8 days worth 😊

@@NickLivingLife I hope the albergue in Lantz was nice? Oh gosh, 8 days of it! Time to crack out the poncho and waterproof trousers, mate. Hope it goes well for you tomorrow, are you heading off the Baztan?

I will be watching your vlogs daily. To me I like that they are short. Also I am assuming that you are saying that if you search for a place to sleep in a smaller town that finding one will be more successful.
@NickLivingLife
@NickLivingLife Жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. I try to keep them all between 5 and 10 minutes (we all have other things to do 😂). Absolutely with the smaller towns. On the start of the Frances, the only places that are fully booked are the towns that guide books call end of stage (Ronsesvalles, Zubiri, Pamplona sometimes, Puenta La Reina etc. Between each of these are 4 or 5 towns that have places to stay most of the time. This also has a bonus that you are walking a few hours ahead or a few hours behind the mob of people, so coffee shops are empty, nothing interrupting you being one with nature etc 😊
@NickLivingLife
@NickLivingLife Жыл бұрын
As an example, if you test to see if you can book something for a random day next week in Zubiri on booking dot com it might be tricky, but try the same thing for Larrasoana or Urdaniz etc it’s much easier. 😊

Are your new shoes zero drop? If so how do you find this? Thxs. Great videos.
@NickLivingLife
@NickLivingLife Жыл бұрын
I’m finding them very comfortable and it’s like I have been wearing mittens on my feet for years and now I am wearing gloves. Ideally, walking in zero drop in advance would be an advantage but I need to do double the advertised mileage limit in these so didn’t want to reduce their lifespan 😊

How do you find the non-guidebook towns? Do you just happen upon them on the Camino? Thanks.
@NickLivingLife
@NickLivingLife Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. It’s like the Camino goes through a hundred cities, towns and villages with accommodation but the guide books only mention about 30 of them. Between almost all of the guidebook towns are 1-4 options that people just walk straight through. 😊
@KathrynHale-z1k

@@NickLivingLife Thank you so much. I couldn't get accommodation at Orisson or Bordo, and at some of the other places listed in the guidebooks so I was a little worried. I begin Sept 5th.
@NickLivingLife

Day 1 is different as there are no other options on the Napoleon route between St Jean and Ronvesvalles other than those 2. Those are right at the start though (it takes me about 45 minutes to get to Orisson, probably still only a few hours for most people who haven’t trained). I would advise lots of training then if you can. Wear your pack and walk as much as you can every day and include some hills when you feel fit enough. With even a medium amount of training, it’s not too bad. Make sure to keep your pack light too- you need a lot less than you think. 😊
@KathrynHale-z1k
@KathrynHale-z1k Жыл бұрын
@@NickLivingLife Thanks for all the nice tips. I have been training for months, doing multiple miles, mostly in hilly forests. I will be pulling a hiking cart and will keep it light. 45 minutes to Orisson seems fast. Maybe, because of my training, the Camino won't be as daunting as I think it will be.
@NickLivingLife
@NickLivingLife Жыл бұрын
I was almost jogging it as I had planned to walk on way past Roncesvalles, as I was doing St Jean to Pamplona in 2 days rather than the standard 3 or 4. That’s great that you are training hard…it means you will enjoy the first week a lot more than people who don’t train. 😊😊👏🏻

Not that I know of other than walking / driving through the stream. They do feel closer together though than it looks on the video. Only short steps. 😊
