Th@t pesky little gnat/fly-like insect is called a “ bo-bo” where I spend some time. We see them in the summer, mostly a day or so after a rain, and they can be a true bane to one’s existence. They are relentless in seeking refuge in your mouth, nose and eyes as they like a moist environment, and it’s a good idea to get the little suckers outta the latter cuz something akin to pink eye can result. 😬

Enjoy following your journey and dialogue. Inspiring. Can you pick up a head net to keep those flies off your face? And a lighter colored shirt to reflect the sunlight and help with the heat? You handle it a lot better than I could.

@@axcab3437 tomorrow I head to Castrojeriz. There's an odd little shop there (if it's still there) where he sells some random grocery items and for some reason odd military surplus and hiking gear. Might be a net there.

We are planning our first Camino on the Frances for May 2025 - 65+ and worried about my bad knees. You mentioned that you sorted out that issue. Can you give me an idea what you did please? My husband and I are enjoying your videos a lot!

@@etta0840 I started taking iodine supplement, the green seaweed ones. I thought maybe my sudden low metabolism \weight gain and arthritic knees might be low iodine related. I'm taking about 3 of them a day (about 1 milligram, 325 micrograms each) My knee problem went away in a few days.

When you’re staying at a public albergue, where do you leave your stuff when going to a restaurant or in the shower?

I just leave it on my bed. There's nothing in my pack that anyone would want. My wallet and everything important are in my fanny pack and go with me. If someone steals my pack, then I guess I don't have to carry it anymore. In the summer you could do the whole thing with just a change of clothes and a plastic grocery bag.

ASICS Gel Nimbus? I thought you were going to use the Brooks Ghost Max?
@TheCaminoGuide
@TheCaminoGuide 4 ай бұрын
@@mauibob9488 I sort of wore out most of the tread training with them for a month. I didn't think they would last the whole Camino. I was going to get a new pair but they are coming out with the new version in a couple of days. The Ghost Max are definitely the best shoes I've worn so far and I think the new ones are better. These gel nimbus shoes basically feel like the Brooks adrenaline. No issues, no blisters and so far no foot or knee pain. So they seem fine. The Ghost Max seem to roll better for walking though. I'm looking forward to trying out the new version.

What month are the flies bad? Stands to reason considering how many rural animals are about. When you take a rest day is it to just sleep and eat or do you have enough energy for sightseeing also? I have to agree with you about a hard/firm bed! You talk about stuff that other podcasters don’t.

In Burgos and León the things you want to do on a day off are pretty close, so not much energy needed. Mostly you want to rest your feet so they can heal a bit. I felt pretty good after a day off.

@@wickidklown85 yeah, if you see me, it's fine. I had a lot of people recognize me back in may, but no one so far this time. I hadn't posted in a few weeks though, so maybe that was it.
