My dad passed away on July 9th at 72 years old. Learning to cope with the loss and not be hard on myself has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do. He loved wood working very much and left me with a bunch of tools and unfinished projects. I have decided that I am going to build him an urn. I also plan to finish his projects that he didn't get to finish. Last time I talked to him in the hospital he was excited to get home and get better so he could build things for my daughters and spend time with us this Christmas since we didn't see him much over the last 10 years. He sadly never got well enough to spend time in the workshop. We were mending a broken relationship with him. He loved Christmas time and used to dress up as Santa and hand out candy canes to people. He's deeply missed and I think building an urn for his ashes is the appropriate thing to do. My condolences to you.

Today is the last day we can be at my moms house. Its a beautiful lot on an acre in the best school district in the state. Wife and i couldn't afford it. Dad died 2 yrs ago after living there for 45 yrs. Theres some cherry we used to climb in and eat that he never got around to doing anything with. I've decided to (somehow) get that into usable lumber and build and urn box. Thanks for the vid and hope everyone who's found themself here is holding up ok

Talk as much as you can with him about death and how you'll honor him. Even though it's uncomfortable, you're already way ahead of most families. Much love & strength for you & your family during these next weeks. I do realize he probably hasn't passed away yet, but I see that it already is a struggle for you. While working with the relatives of people that passed away & people who are close to it at the hospital, i have been seeing that mourning the death of a loved one can be devastating, but in that state of grief is much power as well. When the time comes I hope you are aware of that very power, and that you know to wield it into your creativity, and by that allow yourself to take control of the process of saying good bye.
